@mamacito1795 you and I both! Over the last 5 or so years, I have undergone a form of awakening almost, that's helped me form a filter and calm down a lil, lol. But in prior years, it has always been my nature to throw hands with people like Barb😅🤣 I have finally realized that you just can't fight everybody that pisses you off😅 Not to mention that it is childish and just so not worth your freedom. I'm still learning the whole process of using honey instead of vinegar🤣 It's a lengthy learning process for sure.

No, she was gentle FRIENDED. She was NOT treated like a child. Deedee is NOT that annoying "Gentle Parenting adults" KZbinr who looks down on other people and is SO INCREDIBLY AWFUL. Deedee didn't need to "gentle parent." She just treated Barb like an adult, who was clearly suffering from some form of pain, and she healed that pain for her. She was a FRIEND in need and a friend indeed. Please don't conflate "gentle parenting" and that.
@Minnehotness
@Minnehotness 26 күн бұрын
@AuntLoopy123 gentle patenting doesn't have to be awful or self-righteous. The way DeeDee talked to Barb is the way actual gentle parenting looks, but I do agree that she also extended herself as a friend to Barb. We could all use a DeeDee in our lives to keep us grounded and accountable while cheering on the good.
@safidraws
@safidraws 26 күн бұрын
@@Minnehotness I think their issue is that the notion of "parenting" another adult seems condescending by default. Barb isn't a child, she's a grown adult and doesn't need to be parented.
@imasinnerimasaint

The holidays are hard and always an emotional mess for me, but I think I felt almost the whole range here.

I love this empathetic look into Barb’s behavior. As much as it’s unacceptable, underneath all the entitlement is a mom who’s feeling lonely and missing a time where her little babies needed her. If I knew her I’d definitely keep low or no contact, but it’s nice to have a reminder that she’s not evil. She’s just a sad person who doesn’t know how to reach out in a healthy way
@Jessamineann
@Jessamineann 28 күн бұрын
This video made me wonder if maybe women who didn’t feel comfortable relaxing and silly and spontaneous with their kids (cookies at bedtime, letting them stay up late at holidays) when they were little maybe think that they CAN with grandkids. And when they get pushback from their kids about it (because if they NEVER did it, they may not know that there’s and time and place for it and holidays are not it) they feel resentful that they squashed all the fun out of parenting believing it would pay dividends when their kids were grown, and that never materialized in the way they expected. Especially if they themselves were raised in an “elders know best” way and never felt comfortable pushing back against their own parents’ boundary-stepping… they were raised to believe that exchange was normal, but they’re when their kids won’t conform to that “normal,” they feel the (unacknowledged) resentment of getting the bitter end of that generational dynamic.
@ShawnatheMom

Yes, you’ve nailed it. Great insight. Barb is not evil, she’s deeply injured. Sadly our unexamined hurt drives our behavior so when Barb feels she flails and damages the very ones she wants to be close to. It’s a cycle and will continue without real, conscious accountability.

Shawna, i am thankful for you this year! You are by far one of my favorite creators. Even your vacation vlog and keeping your kids private, all the different shorts about relatable mom topics and especially this series,!!! This series keeps me coming back for more! I am sooo invested in these characters! Amd more full length videos of them woild be amazing! But ill take whatever we get and be happy with it. You're a phenomenal actress, i really feel like im watching multiple different people when i watch this series and the way you can cry on que is amazing! Thank you for the year of entertainment! Hope you and your family get everything you deserve in the upcoming year!

Aw, that was nice. I'm alone this year so this was like sitting in the corner with a nicely dysfunctional vaguely familiar family. Now I really want a lemon drop and a piece of apple tart. Plus my mom's name was Delores so I had Thanksgiving with my mom this year. Thank you.

The ending gave me chills. Dee Dee is stellar. Love the dad though. Silent and grumbly.

I love how 3 dimensional your characters are. Sometimes it is good to remember that our real loved ones are too. Sometimes we see them through our own lense and forget they are whole entire people.

You are so freaking talented. Playing all the characters, and they are all done so well! I love seeing Frank. You can tell that he's a man who has a Barb for a wife!

The way DeeDee sees the issue that Barb has and how she navigates it to bring the focus to Barb while showing appreciation for the time and effort put into the meal... it's beautiful!😊

This was wonderful, really. Bravo. Poor Barb, she was really, painfully human in this one. Also, mama Deedee forever. That’s a woman who knows how to read the room.

Hooray! We see the dad! This was so heartwarming and wonderful! I was starting to feel sorry for Barb and this is truly a great way to humanize her (and more importantly the people she's based on). 😊

Dee Dee was the Woman!!! I never expected to see Barb actually happy at the end of that evening. Top Conflict Resolution Skills that many musketry-mucks would envy. Hope to see more of her.
