She literally beat Pusha T, Drake, and Travis Scott in that category, which is absolutely insane to me. The archetype of a female rapper in which you just described is literally Cardi B with precise detail. Lastly, early in Nicki's career (2008-2011) she was considered a good lyricist even before the Young Money association. I'm not even a huge fan of hers like that, but you have to give credit where it's due.

Placing her in pop does make it harder for her to win because there's no way they'd pick her over a harry styles or an adele. Although I think Nicki makes it hard for people to sympathize with her because she comes off as too aggressive. But the industry had made it difficult for her. Now, Billboard has changed its rules to exclude bundles which have made a lot of independent artists' albums reach number one. In conclusion, Nicki has fought for many unfair rules to change. She isn’t saying anything new, record companies pay radio stations and work with streaming platforms, including hers, this is an open secret. The issue the artists have is when it no longer yields them the benefits they enjoy because their label has moved onto someone new. Female rap is toxic because of the success of Nicki minaj in the male dominated rap world (prior the mid 2010s) which has threatened the male domimated rap industry who are now trying to topple her with other less talented female rappers (there has been receipts that everytime a new female rapper comes to the scene, their label pushes them to have beef with Nicki or there is some sort of manipulation done by the elites to make Nicki look bad) . Nicki minaj has commercial success AND has skill and influence. In 2010 Nicki showed that she could outperform the likes of Kanye and Jay z, and rival eminem when it comes to rapping and sales. That is threatening for the male dominated rap industry, so they want some Cardi B type of mediocre artist to represent female rap so they can't threaten the power and influence of male rappers, (I also think they don't want a real black woman to be the face of female rap). With Artists like Cardi B being the queens of female rap, the argument can always be made that female rappers aren't talented, they depend on ghost writers, and are only successful because of their appearance.
