When I was younger, maybe junior high, I got roped into watching my 3 month old niece while my sister went climbing at our local gym. So there i am, sitting on the couch in the gym with my niece, and who walks in but Shawn himself. I was nervous as fuck, and just kept looking at him as he was warming up, but didn't know what to say. Pretty soon though my niece started crying, and I'm trying to quiet her down because I didn't want her to bother Shawn, but she wouldn't stop. Pretty soon he gets up and walks over. He gave her a fist bump and started asking what was wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry or something. So, Shawn put down his chalk bag, picked up my niece and lifted his shirt. He breast fed her right there in the middle of the climbing gym. Chill guy, really nice about it.

the logistics of getting to bleu from paris for a day trip suck if you dont plan on renting a car. i'd recommend planning to stay in the forest for at least a few days - its a beautiful place. maybe not something to tick off on a couples first trip to paris :)

It’s a great video and I don’t want to be a buzzkill but I fear people might try and replicate stuff seen in the video so I wanted to give some context and info Climbing at night in Bleau is forbidden by law. It offers great conditions for bouldering, but the forest is a protected natural site and going there at night is disturbing the wildlife. The noise, the lighting, the smell of people…all of that has been linked to death (direct or indirect) of many species and behavioural changes in others. It’s also dangerous for you and if you get hurt, getting help to you might be difficult but this argument is usually lost on climbers because well, we have a dangerous passion. So please if you come to Bleau from anywhere in the world, I understand it’s a magical place and you want to maximise your time on the rocks but please remember that we share this space with many wild animals that need time free of humans to move around, hunt, sleep, reproduce…all year round but especially in the spring and summer where it becomes very crowded with climbers. They have a right to enjoy the forest undisturbed ✨ Thanks for the video anyway Shawn ☺️It’s always amazing to watch you climb and especially on home turf

Love that video, showing how hard some boulder could be even for the best. But please avoid climbing at night. The Fontainebleau forest is a fragile ecosystem. Many animals only come out at night, artificial lights are very disturbing for them. We still have a chance to have free access to the forest to climb. Let’s all make it last. Thank you for openly acknowledging that there are indeed relevant height/size issues in climbing/bouldering. When one of the world's current strongest boulderers talks about needing shortie beta you can be pretty much 100% sure that it's not about a lack of strength.

There will often be a certain body type that better suits the boulder, be it short or tall. That doesn't mean that it's impossible otherwise, nor should it be a reason to complain. It's just another problem to solve, which is basically the whole point of bouldering to begin with. If you can't figure it out, that's okay too, there are plenty of other boulders out there for you to do.
