I loved the fact that the rats weren't bothered by this trap, normally they sense the man made materials and stay clear, but because this was all natural it sort of worked.

Damn rats have a rescue squad now. These little bastards are too well organized. Time Shawn decimated the colony, it must be costing him a fortune in lost chicken feed and lost eggs due to stressed chickens.

You should look up videos of a British Show called Time Team. There a group of archeologists who explore British historical sites to find out all they can with a limit of 3 days. One of the archeologists is a master flint knapper. He's amazing to watch. He can recreate a tool within a few minutes and prove how well they work. I think you might like it.

I always appreciate your video Shawn, perhaps and not similar to a hangman's noose that will tighten but not loosen easily. That way if another rat chews through the string the rat that got caught will still suffocate

I wonder if something like this could be hybridized with the Spanish windlass type trap? So something like a small catapult frame made with sticks that would be portable, but tensioned by the cordage so you're not worried about having a springy enough stick. And that could still be made with relatively primitive methods.
