From what I know from doing my own research and from other idol's/actor's, when you are doing social work in the military it's like a normal 9-6 government job where you get to go home at the end of the day and you have holidays and weekends off, which is also why it is longer. So Taemin is home with his Princess Kkoongie and his family is with him and from what I can piece together, Jinki, Minho and Kibum have already seen him and was with him his first weekend home (hopefully). It is hard and I am also very worried about him but knowing that he is home makes it so much easier.

About the extra albums, I think that you can sell them, I'm someone that only buys photobooks I don't care about photocards so I would definitely buy it, and here where I live is pretty common.
