Nice. Great video and welcome to the world of Hong Kong film collecting. Glad you like the artwork. Out of all the covers I’ve done I think Lady Hermit was my favorite. Hard not to fall in love with Shih Szu

Awesome unboxing! Glad you are getting into these classic kung-fu flicks. Of this volume 3, my favorites are The New One-Armed Swordsman (also love the first two but this one is the top for me) and The Avenging Eagle. These two flicks are pretty gory for the time. The New One-Armed Swordsman had a third act death that made my jaw drop with how brutal it was. I turned to Etsy for cases/sleeve to hold the discs, just for ease of access to the discs. The first two volumes from Arrow, the Shout "Classics" collections and the 88 films releases for Shaw Brothers are all amazingly done.

The shaw brothers were the ogs for kung fu movies pre bruce lee and jackie chan. their main stars were the guys from the venom movies if you look up five deadly venoms thats a good place to start. Also the wu tang clan based alot of their names and samples from the old shaw brothers kung fu movies. 8 diagram pole fighter and 36th chamber etc.. theres hundreds of shaw brothers movies and basically that set you bought showcases on the one armed swordsman movies staring jimmy wang yu. honestly if you enjoyed new fists of fury which isnt by any means a good movie look up these movies.. knockabout, magnificent butcher, drunken master. Anything with sammo hung, yuen bio and jackie chan in the same movie is pure gold. The one main bad guy from five deadly venoms went on to star as the villian in hard boiled by john wu. Which inspired the matrix. Ive been watching kung fu movies for years.

Nice! Didn’t know you were a martial arts movie fan. It’s my favorite genre of film. I have that set being delivered Tuesday. You need volumes 1 and 2.

@@pizowellShaw brothers also produced some fantastic 70s-80s horror films. Truly off the wall stuff!

Happy to see you trying these films. It's actually a good set. Here are some SB films you should definitely try: 1) Five Element Ninjas 2) Five Deadly Venoms 3) Eight Diagram Pole Fighters aka Invincible Pole Fighters 4) Masked Avengers 5) The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (The lead played Pai Mei in QT's Kill Bill) 6) Boxer from Shantung 7) Heroes of the East 8) The Deadly Mantis 9) Executioners from Shaolin (The villain also appeared in QT's Kill Bill) 10) Human Lanterns * (Kung fu horror) 11) The Duel (1971, because there is another one with similar name) 12) The Flying Guillotine 13) The Flying Guillotine 2 14) The Lady Assassin * (Just wild!) * Implies no known English dub available, but still worth seeing. Enjoy!

Mine is supposed to come in today - I can't wait. I bought the first volume just to check them out and ended up buying all the Shaw brother classic sets from shout as well.

Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is a must for your ultimate Shaw Bros and Hammer crossover. Peter Cushing and undead kung fu zombies, it’s a winner!

That sounds awesome! Thanks for the recommendation!

Shaw Bros are legends. It’s been great to have these sets, along with the shout sets releasing so many of these classics. I grew up watching a program called Samurai Sunday, here in the Midwest, and possibly East Coast? Despite the name, they had tons of Kung Fu films too. (There was another program later in the 90s that slips my mind at the moment) anyway, now I have my Sundays again, and it’s a great time. 🤘plus these sets, especially the Arrow releases, are absolutely gorgeous.

Great looking set, mine is on its way. You should totally buy vol. 1 and 2. I haven't seen all of the movies from this set but of the ones I have seen I would say start with Avenging Eagle and Bastard Swordsman. Eagle is just a super solid and fun kung-fu movie and Swordsman is more of a fantasy kung-fu movie but done really well.

OK here we go. Shaw produced around 320 martial arts films in a 20 year period. They can divided roughly into 2 categories. Kung fu (fist and feet films) and sword play (wuxia - which means of martial chivalry) this box is all wuxia. The other 2 boxes focus on kung fu and have a couple of movies that don't fit into that category ( Mighty Peking man and Boxers omen) but because they made so many films even if you pick up all 3 sets, you probably only have around 10% of their output. All 3 sets are fantastic. Volume 3 my favourite films are Killer constable, Magic blade and Intimate confessions of a chinese courtesan. You should definitely get the other sets if you are interested as they will probably change your perception of what kung fu films are. If you get those other sets and still want more, Shout factory have put out 4 volumes of Shaw brothers classics which aren't as lavishly packaged, but give a broader insight into the studios output, the Arrow sets are far more focused on certain directors. You should also pick up the other Arrow sets because you need to see a Lau Kar-leung film, go for the first volume next. Hope this helps.

I'm interested in all the non-swordfighting films in the box set. But I'm not sure if there's enough in there to make it worth the cost (+ duty fees to Canada). 🤔 Gonna have to wait for the film reviews and a sale I think.

This one seems really heavy with swordsman movies but it does have some great other stuff. I really, really like Avenging Eagle and Bastard Swordsman. Which is not all swordfighting actually! I think it's really fun. If you don't have vol 1 or 2 I think you'd be happier with those.

@chriss5361 I have Shawscope Vol 1 & 2, as well as Shaw Brothers Classics Volumes 1, 2, 3, and The Brave Archer box set. Probably gonna slip Classics vol. 5 and this tbh.

@@thesharphandpath i get it, these things are pretty pricey too. I passed on the first 2 Shaw Classics boxes but picked up 3 and 4. Like you I think I'm going to pass on 5. Also like you I passed on the Ti Lung and David Chiang box. It was just too expensive. I do recommend Shaw Classics vol 4 though.
