I personally don't think he hid the pick inside the bible. It just makes so much more sense to hide it behind the poster, and Andy was so much smarter than any of us. @joeswanson7332 жыл бұрын
i always would like to imagine several fan theories. 1.) andy was incredibly intelligent hence making VP at a bank at the age of 30 during the era when seniority still meant something. (well this isn't a theory red in teh movie said andy was a young banker) 2.) andys ability to maintain cool, keep his composure, endure the hardships of prison life, given his age he probably served in WW2 as a army or navy officer given his educational background. 3.) andy is just 10 steps ahead of everyone else his ability to manipulate individuals without them even knowing it that benefits andys survival in the prison... that's some next level stuff.
@notiitans Жыл бұрын
Was he praising the Warden, or warning the warden? “Keep watch because you dont know when the master of the house is coming”; obviously the warden thinks Andy is saying “stay on your toes because you never know when the Warden will show up.” What Andy really is saying is “Watch out, I am in charge here, and when I want to, I will bring this whole place down.” Warden cannot fathom a prisoner is the one who is actually in charge. But as Andy is innocent and literally everyone else is a criminal, Andy is the actual Master of the house. As the movie progresses Andy set the Warden up to go to jail, and walk out with the Wardens money.

found this comment while looking at indiana jones music: The "Grail Theme motif" is copied note for note, and is used twice by composer Thomas Newman in the movie The Shawshank Redemption. The first instance is at the end of the scene where Warden Norton supervises the guards tossing Andy's cell. The Warden leaves the cell with Andy's Bible, and the theme plays when the warden hands the Bible back to Andy and says "Salvation is found within." The second instance of the theme is when Andy is in the Warden's office, and sees the sign hanging on the wall that says "His judgment cometh and that right soon."

The master of the house line has so many meanings. It could be interpreted as Andy must beware of his tunnelling because he does not know when the warden or his guards might show up. It can also be meant as subtle threat to be warden as Andy knows what he’s doing and to treat him with civility or he’ll expose his secrets after he escapes. The salvation lies within line could mean the rock hammer inside the bible but also the hope that compels andys desire to escape, his reminders of the outside world such as the music and the beer. I like the think that’s what compelled Andy do both of those things

YES!!! i had this exact thought years ago ... you would obviously put the hammer in the hole because if the hole gets discovered, you're screwed anyway. the hammer in the bible makes for the nice ironic twist of 'salvation lies within' though similarly, andy would never wear the warden's shoes to his cell on his last night. it's incredibly risky because if any guard or inmate looked at his shoes for a moment and called him out on it, his entire scheme would likely be foiled after 17 years of effort. instead, he would save up a few bucks over the years, and buy a cheap pair of shoes the morning after escaping. much smarter plan.

When I first learned that Clancy Brown voiced Mr. Crabs in spongebob, I was shocked. I mean, here's an actor who practacly played a bad guy on almost every movie I've seen so far. Talk about irony.

Captains don't normally do cell searches and Wardens don't usually watch over the search. That's a lowly bottom rung guard's job. The highest rank I've ever seen enter a cell was a sergeant.

Salvation lies within was a huge factor early in this film, sometimes to defeat, your enemy is to get close to your enemy and promise things, but never promise that one day you’ll take it all away

- Pleased to see you reading this (Bible). Any favorite passages? - "Watch ye, therefore,for ye know not... ...when the master of the house cometh." Mark 13 35. - I've always liked that one.- But I prefer... ..."I am the light of the world. Ye that followeth me shall have the light of life." - John, chapter 8, verse 12.

Andy had a close call, here. He already got the rock hammer earlier in the movie and he may have already carved out the hole in the Bible to hide it. :)

he most likely had already carved it out.

That's why this scene like most of the movie is just priceless.

many people probably don't think about this but Andy couldn't escape without being on the far cell so he wouldn't dig into another cell.

i don't know...i'm thinking there was no reason to hide the hammer in the bible until the end. if they find the hole, he's screwed anyway. why create 2 places to get himself caught?

I like the fact that Andy knew the bible verses off by heart, just from the numbers. The fact that he (must have) memorized the bible ahead of time hints at what a goody-two-shoes he was before he went to jail.

0:08 Andy thinking “I like that rock hammer, that is a nice rock hammer”
First watching it, I found it a little weird that Andy was quoting the Gospels but only had his book open to Genesis. But I didn't think anything of it, until rewatching it of course
@harrydrake41738 жыл бұрын
Why is that weird?

Harry Drake The Gospels are clear on the other side of the book. You know, the pages that he had to ear up to fit his hammer in

The way they used the Bible to depict one another. Beware of the master always be on guard. Then the warden whose so consumed within himself believed he ruled the world. That’s why this is my favorite movie.

Just realised Andy's 'favourite' passage actually mirrored the scene... 'Watch therefore, for ye know now when the master of the house cometh'... after Red told him about the surprise inspections, he was just waiting for the warden to come. If he hadn't read any passages from the bible, the warden upon testing him may have opened the bible to read from it. Salvation truly lay within.
