Shaykh Aslam - Who was 'Allamah Muhammad 'Ali al-Sabuni?

I've just heard the extremely heartbreaking news that Shaykh Muhammad 'Ali al-Sabuni has passed away. He was without a doubt - one of the greatest scholars in the world and a true ocean of knowledge.
The Shaykh's service and contributions for this ummah have been immense and all the Muslims are indebted to his scholarship. He was a true khadim of the Quran and Sunnah. There isn't a student of knowledge in our time except that they would have benefitted from the works of the Shaykh. He went through illness and weakness in the final period of his life but never gave up on his strive for knowledge and to teach others. This is a very sad day for the entire ummah. May Allah honour the Shaykh, raise his ranks, illuminate his grave, and allow him to neighbour Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ in the highest abodes of Jannah.
