Some of the people came from countries, where you go to prison, if you act with their soldiers like they do with the Guards. Only because of the traditional uniforms they think, they are standing there just for fun, like Disney figures. How silly, ignorant, disrespectful… … … I am very impressed, how calm the Guards act.

@@spyro587 "Take turns"? At public duties? If someone doesn't want to do public duties they don't join a unit that does them - that's more than 90% of the Army! If they want to spend at least a third of their time doing public duties at Buckingham Palace, the Tower, and Windsor (the King's Guard, mainly done by the five Guards regiments) they join a Guards regiment. If they want to spend more time doing it and they want to be mounted for it they join the Household Cavalry, where if they only stay for four years that's all they'll do as the King's Life Guard (the duty at Horseguards) - one year in training and three years in the HCMR, as by the time they'd have finished with HCMR (mounted / ceremonial / public duties) and re-trained for HCR (armoured recce) it would be time to leave - they "take turns" between HCMR and HCR but only after a first tour with HCMR. If they want to spend all their time doing mounted / ceremonial / public duties they join King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery as that's all they do. The other 90% of the Army never do public duties, and on the very rare occasions a very few other units do, only a very few in the unit will do them. That's how the system works - it's up to you what you join and if you choose to join a unit that does public duties.

There seems to be a misconception in the US that the guards at royal residences only have one function. The cavalryman filmed in this post is a member of the "Blues & Royals" as signified by the red plume. He will almost certainly have served in either or both of Iraq and Afghanistan. Only part of his role is ceremonial; his regiment is an armoured reconnaissance tank regiment.

The guard are actually the armed police - the scruffy types with weapons, capable of arresting people and an armed response. Edit: In case I wasn't clear, by "obviously pretty stupid" I meant THOSE HERE making this and similar comments who have no idea what they're talking about and who have no idea why he's standing in the middle of a public pavement - and it's NOT "because he's a GUARD" - if you knew what his job had been at Horse Guards in days gone by, a century or two ago, you'd know it was impossible for him to have done his job as "a GUARD" from there. After that they'll alternate between HCR (armoured recce) and HCMR (public duties / ceremonial). Even Foot Guards spend less than a quarter of their time on public duties. If they didn't want to do this they'd join another unit.

It is horrible that some people choose to see them as a form of entertainment. When I recently attended, there weren't as many tourists and when I filmed, people behaved politely. I have noticed that few people take the time to thank The Guards if they take a photograph. I concede that many people behave properly. I really don't understand why people mock them or act as if The Guards are amazing. I really like this person's channel, but at the same time there is just so much blatant disrespectful behaviour. ***I do not know if anyone else has noticed this, but most of the channels who do this type of content have been uploading EXTREMELY bad behaviour and all of this seems to be happening today. Pretty much everything I have watched today are not just minor things, it is just blatantly awful behaviour.*** Thank you so much for the video.

"most of the channels who upload this type of content" know nothing, absolutely nothing about the subject, but they monetise it by clickbaiting the title and editing the title pic to appeal to others who know equally little. Look at the title and pic here - the clickbait never happens. No-one tries to grab the trooper's sword. It's just rubbish to get the lowest common denominator jumping on the outrage bus for more clicks and more money. This isn't even "The King's Guard", fercrissake.

@@mrbritannia3833 Agreed 100%, but however you spin it they spend a great deal of their time as "ceremonial picture props" - way, way more than anyone else in the Army and for most more than they do in a conventional "soldiering" role. For someone joining now on a four year engagement that's all they'll ever do; for someone doing ten years (the average in H Cav) they'll do two mounted tours (HCMR) and one armoured recce (HCR). I'm not knocking them for that, they're as good doing armoured recce as anyone else doing it, but those who wail that "it's not fair ... that's not what they joined for ... they're not ceremonial picture props ... they're soldiers, not there to have their photo taken" etc, etc, I'm afraid the stark reality is that that IS what they're there for and what they joined for - it was their choice, and it's the Army's choice. The one dismounted trooper on the pavement could be moved inside, as happened at Pall Mall and Clarence House in 2014, but go much beyond that and it's increasingly hard to justify the HCMR.
