If they want to spend at least a third of their time doing public duties at Buckingham Palace, the Tower, and Windsor (the King's Guard, mainly done by the five Guards regiments) they join a Guards regiment. If they want to spend more time doing it and they want to be mounted for it they join the Household Cavalry, where if they only stay for four years that's all they'll do as the King's Life Guard (the duty at Horseguards) - one year in training and three years in the HCMR, as by the time they'd have finished with HCMR (mounted / ceremonial / public duties) and re-trained for HCR (armoured recce) it would be time to leave - they "take turns" between HCMR and HCR but only after a first tour with HCMR. If they want to spend all their time doing mounted / ceremonial / public duties they join King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery as that's all they do. The other 90% of the Army never do public duties, and on the very rare occasions a very few other units do, only a very few in the unit will do them. And that one movement would be dealt with by that highly trained elite soldier. Make no mistake, he's just seen active duty and is on guard, not a toy soldier, nor actor. Why don't you google just what is required to be given the privilege to do this job.

@@cbisme6414 Why don't you google it yourself? If you did, you'd learn that it's now a first tour for all Household Cavalry recruits and has been for quite a while, so those only doing a four year engagement will only ever do HCMR (ceremonial / public duties).

I just heard a woman ask why the soldier was standing there if he didn’t want his photograph taken!!! Heavens to Betsy! I think she was American. This ain’t no Disney world Ma’am. These are real working soldiers, who have the courage to want to protect this Country and deserve to be respected.

Let them stand back to back by two’s, three’s, or four’s. Unsafe for people to have access to their backs, their weapons, their blind spots. This is not a position of strength. It will be perceived as a position of weakness. The guard looks vulnerable.

I'm a recent convert to being a royalist 4:18 and watching these videos only confirms my decision to be a decision well made. I can understand some tourists behaviour. They are on holiday in a wonderful country. I'm just so grateful to the guards and their equine friends and police and army on their handling of situations. I know the Guards are creme de la creme of our military and I'm sure they will never forget their days of training. Just great to know we in the UK are in safe hands. Gentle hands which can turn if the ocassion demands. RIP Queen Elizabeth II. I'm sure you knew you could.

Shame on those in charge of this branch of the military. If these are in fact real solders, it is their responsibility to set boundaries otherwise these guys are just ceremonial picture props. Shame on the system.
@mrbritannia3833 Жыл бұрын
Blame the 264 years of tradition not the people in charge. And no one wants to hear you so do it in private. And don’t say “if in fact they are real soldiers” these people served in Afghanistan(Herrick IV, Herrick VII Herrick VIII, Herrick XI, Herrick XIII along with Herrick XVIII) and also saw action at Musa Qala) and Iraq(They were with the 16 Air Assault Brigade in the 2003 Invasion along with this squadrons A and C were sent to Iraq during Telic IV and Telic X) as armoured cavalry.
@John-G Жыл бұрын
That's what they joined for - to be "ceremonial picture props". If they didn't want to do it, they'd have joined a different part of the Army - it was their choice.

@John-G Жыл бұрын
@@mrbritannia3833 Agreed 100%, but however you spin it they spend a great deal of their time as "ceremonial picture props" - way, way more than anyone else in the Army and for most more than they do in a conventional "soldiering" role. For someone joining now on a four year engagement that's all they'll ever do; for someone doing ten years (the average in H Cav) they'll do two mounted tours (HCMR) and one armoured recce (HCR). I'm not knocking them for that, they're as good doing armoured recce as anyone else doing it, but those who wail that "it's not fair ... that's not what they joined for ... they're not ceremonial picture props ... they're soldiers, not there to have their photo taken" etc, etc, I'm afraid the stark reality is that that IS what they're there for and what they joined for - it was their choice, and it's the Army's choice. The one dismounted trooper on the pavement could be moved inside, as happened at Pall Mall and Clarence House in 2014, but go much beyond that and it's increasingly hard to justify the HCMR.
@kendallbutler210 Жыл бұрын
Even so, to be treated so rudely is inexcusable. They must have someone of rank to set boundaries that get set up and respected! I’m certain they did NOT sign up for mistreatment.

No disrespect whatsoever, but actually at the moment most of them haven't - it's the first posting for those joining Household Cavalry and has been for a while, and those who only stay for four years (the minimum) will only serve in HCMR not HCR. Times change. That's not to detract from them as soldiers in any way, but it's simply reality.
