Check out Anker 757 Powerhouse: ankerfast.club/3x4yfft with clean solar charging option that recharges from 0% to 80% in 3.6 hours with a max input of 300W! My daughter asked me to build a boho midcentury modern platform bed for her room. She wanted me to copy an Anthropologie bed, but I wouldn’t. This boho bed is the result. Her reaction was the best! I hate those comments "You use X tool so you're not a real woodworker!" Fool, I work with wood with the tools I have. By their logic, unless they're hitting wood with another piece of wood, then they shouldn't be considered woodworkers either. Looks awesome!

A neat build. My only critique on this was that I thought the pattern on the headboard was too much covered by the bed itself. It was too low and needed to be raised up so it was exposed and visible. However, to do this you'd probably have to make other changes to accommodate this, which might change the over all aesthetic, taking it out of the desired specifications of your daughter. I can imagine a couple different ideas on how to do so, but that's an unnecessary rabbit hole, since overall I like it and more importantly, so does your daughter.
@HonoredMule
@HonoredMule 10 ай бұрын
I think the cutout design should have just been limited to the exposed area. No need to change the overall shape, and the reason it looks bad is that the visible portion is a clearly incomplete pattern.

Nice job sir! You listened to your client's (daughter's) wants and needs, didn't override her with your "expertise", leveraged all the available technology in your shop, took enough professional pride in your work to fix what needed fixing and delivered a great product to a satisfied customer. PS: I built all of the furniture for my kids first apartment. I used the laser in my CNC to put little messages on the drawer bottoms to be discovered at some later date. A little secret just between father and kid.

I don't get why some people crap all over others when they find an effective way to do a better job. They whole "work smarter, not harder" is a valid methodology. Otherwise we'd still be a thousand years behind where we are today. Also saying "you aren't a real woodworker if you are/aren't..... " is just mindless gatekeeping and extremely petty and importantly, wrong.

small hint about the trick with the one two three block. when you make the cross, take your time and not only mark the piece at 0° and 90° but also at 180° and 270° when your dowel is exactly two inches, the second pair of lines line up exactly. If they are not, the lines create a little square and the true center is in the center of that square. this also works well when you know beforehand that your dowels are an odd size.

Exactly! Also often times people don't think about the fact that in this day and age where productivity is on everyone lips (which is not a concept that I like as far as craftsmanship goes but that's another topic) those modern tools are the only way woodworkers can keep up to the industry standards that are always changing, effectively making it possible for them to earn an actual decent living off of their work. I remember coming across an old newspaper article of a purist calling out "lazy craftspeople" adopting the newly invented domestic power tools holding a similar kind of point of view: if you're not a traditionalist, you're not a "real" craftsperson. Boy that didn't age well now that litterally everyone has at least one electrical power tool in their house and/or workshop 😅. Truth be told, tradition is very cool and 100% handwork is absolutely fascinating, but when the living wage is on the line, that idea is simply just not cutting it. And there's no shame to that. Living a successful craftsperson's life in a hyper-industrialized society is already a feat in itself, when you think about it. There will always be naysayers that don't care for new technology and trash those who embrace them, but the reality is that those people are not the ones who have to put bread on the table with hand tools.

OMG this was so great, and thanks for sharing the ‘’mistakes’’ I call those ‘’plan enhancements’’ it’s impossible if you don’t want to waste another 2 months on a project not to experiment with a build, your creativity and craftsmanship shine again in this video, and Chloe’s reaction is priceless, great great job Jonny

Awesome job I love how you cover everything including mistakes. Ignore the trolls a true woodworker works smarter not harder. This means using all the tools you have available to you. Cnc's weren't in my grandfathers kit but even he would agree that if you have one you should use it, those that don't are just dinosaurs and stuck in the past

Great job, it was awesome to see how happy your daughter was. BTW: You need to stop worrying about the individuals that say you are not a true wood worker, that is beyond ignorant. Technology happens for a reason. Keep up the great work!!!!

Agreed 100%! If "true wood workers" weren't allowed to embrace technological advancements you'd all have to be working with stone hammers and chisels!

My dad made beautiful furniture for his and my mom's home, and for the occasional project for a paying friend. It wasn't his job, just his passion. I never asked him, because he was so busy with so many demands. If he had ever offered, I would have jumped on it, but I would never have wanted to impose. And now he is gone, and I wish so much I had something that he had made in our own home. Maybe you could offer?

Lovely creation and good to see your design and build journey. I’m pleased your daughter was happy! One thing I may have tried to do would have been to make the corners at the bottom round as they would have mirrored the headboard and been less painful on the shins 😂 … bitter experience talking there! That said it would have been more painful on the build ! Great job. Love it.

Priceless, man. As a hobbyist woodworker, I agree with those who say, don't let anyone tell you you're "not a woodworker." If they want to work like Roy Underhill, more power to them, but you're turning out some pieces to be proud of. As a dad to two daughters (and a son :D) getting that reaction and the hug makes it all worth it. She'll have an heirloom piece for years. Keep it up, Jonny.

My great-grandfather was a Carpenter (in name and trade), and he built my grandmother a dining table with a lazy susan after she got married. He passed away before he finished it, leaving screws where he had intended to replace them with wooden pegs. It was part of the story, and now it's my dining table, and I remember his story and her story, the family memories made and that my children make now. We talk about it and him and family histories... it is so beautiful what you do for your family! You'll be immortal, sir! Great work! Thanks for sharing!

Just found your channel! Awesome build. I love the transparency in your video! How everything is not always perfect and goes the way you plan, so you have to do some rethinking and through that process of failure you learn something valuable. Looking forward to watch more of your videos! Love those swing out drawers such a unique touch. One question I have is, how does epoxy and wood stand the test of time? Do they start breakaway from each other after awhile? OMG! Because I watched till the end lol All the best with Jonny Builds full time!!
