I dont think there is anything vindictive/bad about people preferring one singer of another. All three had a significantly different sound, and the band itself also changed their style with each singer (being more gothic with Tarja, and more heavy/metal in the Anette/Floor days). So it's pretty logical for people to have a preference. Doesn't mean we dont still think all 3 are great though.

You should definitely check out all 3 singers. They all bring different elements to Nightwish but all are great. For Tarja you cant go wrong checking our her "End of an Era" live performances of "Planet Hell" "The Siren" "Creek Marys Blood" " Sleeping Sun" "Wishmaster" "and Slaying the Dreamer" for starters, also adding "Walking in the air" from their Wishes to Eternity concert as worth a watch. Then theres songs like "Sleeping sun" "Bless the child" and "Dark chest of wonders" that are sung by both Tarja and Floor but are completely different experiences of the same song because of the different elements that each singer brings. Finally you should check out the second Nightwish singer Annette with songs like "Meadows of Heaven" "The crow the owl and the dove" "7 days to the wolves" "Storytime" and " Amaranth. Ive been a Nightwish fan for about 16-18 years and happy to see people discover them.

This is so awesome performance of this classic melody tuned by Nightwish for heavier style. In here Marco and Tarja also act the play. By the way they have had three female singers ...Tarja is the original and founding member of NW...she made five albums with the band and actually then came the other followers as substitutes. NW had made their way from school band to global leader of this genre with this line up at stage already and formed their style as it is.

Annette sounds good not life 😁 She has more a poppy voice, but there are very good songs out with here. Tarja is best when it comes to pure Operatic, and Floor is a incredible allrounder, she can do from rasp to operatic. Some songs like Sleeping Sun, Nemo... I prefer Tarja, many others like Storytime Floor is absolutly incredible.

This is THE Siren, Tarja Turunen. I will never be on board with Floor & that's my choice, no matter how awesome or operatic she is. I know, it's never a competition, but I'll forever be team Tarja. That woman has a special place in my heart, sentimentally, because - This was in Helsinki, Finland. 2005. I was 18 then, just graduated high school & I was there as a graduation gift for October!!! Kinslayer 9. she is my sin 10. wish I had an angel 11. slaying the dreamer 12. the siren 13. dead to the world 14. 10th man down 15. walking in the air 16. ghost love score 17. dark chest of wonders 18. bless the child and many more too ------ this is about the 'phantom of the opera' with tarja nightwish, but it applies to tarja for all other NW songs too: Tarja has her own stage performance/presence, but the focus is on the entire band (much more respectful), unlike with floor, where the focus is almost entirely on her, and also, Phantom of the Opera isn't about that much showmanship, so you're not seeing more of Tarja's performance/presence (love how the camera work and Tarja worked together, with her ducking down, seeing Marcus as he delivered his singing, and then Tarja stands back up, seeing her face back in the camera as Marco's part ends and hers begins again, Tarja is really such a team player, as she could have had all the focus upon herself, like Floor gets, but instead she chooses to give the entire band the respect and focus that they too deserve, it's not all about Tarja, like it is with Floor, despite how good Tarja is and thus how she could be the entire focus with nightwish, as is Floor with nightwish) there's other songs, where Tarja was way way way more stage performance/presence/showmanship, including hair windmills, rocking an invisible guitar along with empuu rocking his guitar, along with her doing her squatting too as she sings and taps her foot/leg to it, as she's swinging those hips too, along with her getting the crowd involved as well too, and etc stuff, you got to watch way more songs, to really see her amazing stage presence/performance and showmanship, as Phantom of the Opera is likely the one song with the least of that stuff, due to the nature of the song itself, being about their singing (contrasting and then cacophonous harmonous duet, nothing can compete with Tarja and Marco voices duet'ing), though Marco and Tarja had a bit of showmanship and fun snuck into it, with Marco pointing to his face and Tarja's facial expression reactions, while both song their parts

Personally, i like all three lead singers of the band plus Marko, but imho the combination of Tarja and Marko was magical. I ended up following Tarjas solo career more than Nightwish, mostly because i was upset with the way the band parted ways with Tarja. that said - Tarja has done some really amazing pieces over the years, which might be worth checking out too.

The difference between Tarja and Floor is: Tarja is a an opera singer who coincidentally got into a metal band, Floor is a metalhead who can sing opera ;-) And between them is Anette, who got a more pop music style of singing. All three of them a great vocalists and I wouldn't compare them in a way like "who is the better singer", you just can't. They are all great, they have their own style and they're all part of the band history.

You have to remember this is Phantom. This is a duet of Eric and Christine. It would be impotent without Marko singing the antagonist to Tarja (the original singer). I believe Anddew Lloyd Webber himself is on record as saying this is the best rendition of his work he'd ever heard. This really was the End of An Era.

I recommend checking out all performers. What matters is the overall presentation of the music, not who the lead singer is. Some songs are best in album form, some are best in music video form and some were performed best live by Tarja or Floor or Marko. Annette is the other singer but she was best in the recording studio rather than in live performances. Anyone who says that only one lead sings all the songs best is not to be believed.

All of Nightwish's singers are great (unless you count Tuomas, and he's never sung since the first album which was intended as a demo)! Soaring classical opera queen Tarja; laser-focused pop princess Anette; versatile rock goddess Floor; demonic angel Marko; and even sweet folky Troy. (OK, those descriptions may be slightly tongue in cheek.) Some suggestions for each: Tarja: Nemo & Sleeping Sun (both End of an Era) Anette: Slow Love Slow (Montreux Jazz Festival) & Meadows of Heaven (Nightwish with lyrics - fan video) Marko: The Islander (Tampere) Floor & Marko: Romanticide (Wacken) Troy: Harvest (lyric video) There are plenty more for all of them (except Troy who mostly sticks to backing vocals). You will be given many many suggestions for Floor so I'm not going to add more to the list yet! Hope you enjoy all of them.

As others have said, 3 singers throughout Nightwish history, all 3 have/had their strengths and weaknesses but all 3 brought a different flavour to the band and helped Nightwish evolve into the band we have today. Please, please, please do not get drawn into the Floor vs Tarja vs Annette debate coz its just not relevant. People have their favourites which is totally fine (but some take that to the extreme which is not good imho), but all 3 stand shoulder to shoulder as having been the singer of one of the best symphonic metal bands around on merit.

You are right, duet singing is difficult, you can have two great vocalists, but when they sing together, many times it just does not work. Marko and Tarja sound good together. Marko usually sounds good singing duet with a female vocalists. Tarja is right now touring in Finland with another Finnish male vocalist Pentti Hietanen, and they perform The Phantom, but it sounds lame, timid partly because of the band I guess but the vocals as well. I think Tarja is better, objectively speaking, than Floor when it comes to operatic vocals. But many people do not like opera style vocals. I'm not a big fan of opera style singing, too much vibrato, but Tarja is great in this one, as Cristine. There are many fans that prefer Tarja, I can understand, that she is the original female lead of Nightwish. Some Floor fans think that Nightwish has some "Tarja songs", she owns them. Floor's forte is her versatility. She can sing any style vocals. And Nightwish has many kinds of songs, ballads, folky, Celtic, heavy, metal, even one jazzy and one sea shanty, and istruments you can not even name, played by Troy, the multi-instrumentalist. When Floor joined Nightwish, Tuomas, the keyboardist/songwriter could write different kinds of vocally challenging songs for her to sing. I like Floor's body language, and the way she conveys emotions. She really lives the lyrics of the songs she is singing. Tarja can do the same on some songs, but not as consistently, just my subjective opinion. They both have great outfits. There some heavy Nightwish songs that Tarja sings just great with Marko - Slaying the Dreamer (might be even better than the version with Floor and Marko, both great anyway), Planet Hell. And I like Floor's operatic vocals on "Stargazers", Tampere 2015. Back on the setlist after 10 years. Anette did not sing operatic vocals songs. Anette, between Tarja and Floor, has her fans as well, although she was not at her best live, this is quite common opinion, but Nightwish' Anette era was very succesful anyway. A couple of great albums, and some "Annette songs" - like "Meadows of Heaven", "Slow Love Slow" (Live). But I think many Anette era songs became even better with Floor. End of sermon. To answer your question: each of us has a favorite singer (in my case the current singer, Floor Jansen), but in our vast majority we agree that each of the 3 singers contributed decisively to the band's success, being part of their evolution . Great reaction! 3 female lead singers. All good but very different and each have songs that are their's and great performances and others where I like the originals singer and Floor's version equally well. This song is often suggested as a first listen to hear Tarja's (Tar-ya) voice and she does really well but for me Marko steals the show as the grittiest, most evil Phantom ever. Better songs that I think really showcase the powerful dark operatic voice of Tarja include Planet Hell, Nemo, The Siren, Bless the Child, Forever Young, Sleeping Sun and Wish I had an Angel. Floor has also performed Phantom of the Opera. First on the Dutch singing show Beste Zangers with Henk Poort. That is my favorite version of this song. Henk is a famous Dutch musical theater star and was the original Phnatom in the Dutch production of the show. Floor saw him perform the role as a teenager and became a big fan. She agreed to be on the TV show so she could meet Henk and sing with him. She asked to sing this song on the show and he agreed with the promise that he could sing it with Nightwish when they performed in Amsterdam. After being delayed by the pandemic they finally were able to perform it with Nightwish live last November. Nightwish had not performed the song in 17 years, having fired Tarja right after this performance and the second singer Annette, being more of a pop singer, not able to perform it. Last I will recommend you checkout a band with your alter ego, Brittney Slayes. She is the lead singer of a Canadian Power Metal Band and sounds like the daughter of Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson, and Geoff Tate all rolled up into one awesome package. This was Tarjas last concert with Nightwish, she was fired after the show. Have you researched the story behind " The Poet And The Pendulum"yet? But, don't play it if you haven't researched it. The trilogy "Poet" deals with the aftermath of Tarja leaving the band. " Bye bye beautiful" is a song written to Tarja. "Master, passion, greed" is written for Marcelo, Tarjas husband. About half of the songs in the Wacken 2013 concert were songs that originated with Tarja. The rest originated with the middle singer Anette. None of them originated with Floor because at the time Floor was brought in to finish Anette's tour after she was fired (the second singer who was fired). Tarja was a tough act to follow. Anette was a good singer - but was sick very often, she wasn't really prepared for how much growth Nightwish was experiencing. Touring takes a lot out of a crew/band/singer. Floor came in rested AND was was aware of what was about to happen having seen Nightwish on her own tours in her prior band(s). Tarja and Floor are good friends - who agreed to never discuss the band and her firing. They both have children (Floor has a second child on the way). Nightwish band members are increasingly aware that they shouldn't push their physical limits, especially as they age. They are being realistic about that now.

It is good to familiarize yourself with the different eras of NW, "Tarja era", "Anette era", "Floor era" and also we can say "Marko era". Floor represents the present (last 10 years) and the others the past. But all are equally Nightwish. However, Tuomas Holopainen (keyboardist) is behind everything. Music composed and written by him. It's the heart of Nightwish. If you are interested, you could also watch Floor's (Nightwish) "Phantom of The Opera" performance from last fall. It's different. Not because these two performances should be compared, but to enjoy NW's different performance to the same song. To our delight, they often vary their songs, e.g. sometimes performing a song acoustically. It brings richness to our hearts when we hear a song we love in a new arrangement.

Tip for the next Nightwish songs: Storytime and Everdream (Wacken 2013) with Floor. Singer Tarja left the band 18 years ago. After Tarja, (left 2005) Anette Olzon was the next singer and in end of 2012 Floor became the singer of Nightwish. I'm a huge Floorfan. Her voice touches me. Floor is at this moment at solotour in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Tarja is since NWdoing soloshows, in june in USA). Next month I visit NW in Finland.

@@SlayWithBrandy I suggest you listen to the songs as performed by the original singers of each era of the band so you have a clear picture of the artistic intent of the creators. I'd estimate that 75% of the recommendations you will get are songs created in the 1996-2005 era (Tarja/Marko) were lead singers, 15% were created with Anette as lead singer, and only 10% created when Floor was the lead singer. Don't over-prioritize Floor performances at the expense of missing out on the authentic creative roots of the music. I know this is a lot to ask of you, but I believe that Authenticity is important.

Tarja 🖤 I can never get enough of this performance. It is much better than the studio version. Tarja was in NW for 9 years and was a founding member of the band at 19. She recorded 5 studio albums with them (Anette 2 albums and Floor also 2 albums, the third will be released next year). This era is absolutely magical and the combination of metal & theater & opera is amazing. So yes, definitely react to her era as well. She has great songs like Planet Hell, Wish I had an angel, Ghost love score, Wishmaster, Dark chest of wonders, Slaying the dreamer, The Pharaoh sails to Orion, Elvenpath, Kinslayer, End of all hope... And that's just the live performances. Albums hide so many gems. The best concerts with her are From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era. This was her last concert, after which she was fired through an open letter, which publicly humiliated her and damaged her reputation to this day. It was an ugly way and it caused a lot of drama. That's when the band lost a lot of fans. Tarja was the only one on stage who didn't know it was going to happen. This song by Phantom of the Opera is also from this concert. The wounds are still unhealed on both sides, but Tarja and Marko (bassist) reconciled a few years ago at a joint concert. Fortunately, both Nightwish and Tarja continue their successful careers.

Tarja Turunen is the original singer and co-founder of the band. Nightwish helped create the genre of symphonic metal thanks to Tuomas's amazingly composed songs and her amazing classical vocals.

I am a relatively new Nightwish Fan and I think they are both Amazing, I do think you should check out Floor Singing Phantom in this video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp2mhJagq6mCgK8 From there honestly I think the Whole Entire Wacken 2013 Live Show is one of the best Live Shows ever, maybe work your way through some of those songs. I would suggest Storytime, Everdream, Romanticide and Song of Myself... Honestly start at the beginning and react to them all... Each one is amazing! After getting to know them a little better check out Greatest Show on Earth (Tampre Version) and Poet and the Pentium Live at Wembley 2015. They are more of their Epic Masterpieces in my opinion.
