There is a certain sense of enjoyment in watching how a tree becomes timber for your home. Over here in Ireland, we don't cut trees and mill the timber and it's nice to see how you become closer to your land when you do that. Too many people throw money at every job instead of looking around and seeing what is available to them. Liz and Mike are a great couple to follow. Thanks for sharing

Awesome Ponderosa Pine shiplap wood. Ya can't get any cheaper than free. That swim in the creek looked so refreshing and cool. I am from coastal North Carolina, and we would gladly be happy with 90 degrees in July and August, it would feel like a cold spell. LOL.

Kinda grinds my gears that a girl can jump into a cold cold creek and go swimming, I go in for a brief few seconds and am almost in tears as its so cold. My arms and legs get knots in them. I have done the ice diving for gold in Nome but I had gear for it... that cold creek is my Achilles heel. Nice stuff coming off of the mill.... just need those extensions made for it so the twelve an even sixteen foot boards can be found on the pile as well.

Looking good y’all. I find pulling the big logs from the other side with the cant hook works a little easier than pushing them. Also, if you put a 24” ish piece of 2” pvc pipe over your log stops, it helps the log not get caught on them, makes it easier to turn your logs and not get busted up while making your cant. Look forward to seeing the shiplap!

Mike, have you and Liz thought about using some of that saw dust for your gardening soil, there are a lot of nutrients in it. Maybe mix some worm castings and fish emulsion with it as well. I recommend you make furrows for planting your rows. Also, have ether of you thought about pouring a slab for your mill, and maybe getting an extension so you can cut longer boards. Great video, that water sure looked refreshing.

Surely Mike can weld so why not just get the steelwork and make the saw upto 20 foot logs, you can do it. You need to get it an extension so you can cut decent lengths of boarding.

Another reason for not using your excavator to turn the logs is the damage it would do to them once on the mill getting trimmed. Hydraulics could work, but I'm not sure on your setup. And a nice creek to take a dip in after work on a hot day! How lucky can you get?

I have watched you saw logs repeatedly on the mill and I am wondering why you make your 1st cut, then you rotate the log 90° and make you 2nd cut. It is a struggle to position for cut #2 because you are squaring up cut 1 so cut 2 is square with it. IF you make cut #1, THEN rotate 180° cut #2 is automatically square with cut #1 in 1/2 the time it took to rotate 90°and get cut#2 square with cut #1. PLUS it gives you 2 edges that are square with each other and when you rotate 90° for cut #3, you have the 2 square sides to use to square cut #3 with the 1st 2 cuts, by making sure they are square with the upright brace on your mill and it makes it way easier to square up cut #3.
