had a "MEAN" rooster when I was a kid run me and my sister all around the pen. finally my older sister 14 took her baton into the pen when we went to feed. he came after us and sis caught him the baton on side of head. he fell like an oak and we thought we had killed him! after 5 minutes he revived took one look at us and ran shrieking to the top of the hill. we never had an issue after that and he lived 4 years more. glad yours could be rehomed.

We have about 10 peacocks on our smallholding farm, they live up in the tree safer than on the ground because all the other animals that come out at night might attack them, when it comes to looking for love they make lots of noise. We collect feathers to sell them. Not easy to keep the baby chicks as they are always attacked by hawks, crows, and other animals are after them.

Just FYI… yes you can “trim” spurs. The nail on the spur is literally like a dunce cap on a nubby toe. You can use a pair of pliers and twist it off. Yes it will grow back. No it doesn’t hurt the rooster. It might bother him only because he won’t like being held down and messed with.
@pamelaremme38
@pamelaremme38 2 жыл бұрын
That is so frickin barbaric. It doesn't hurt you say. Well, try ripping off your finger and toe nails and see how much it doesn't hurt. You clip or drummel them NOT rip or twist them off. My god where do you people get this info from?
@libertymicrofarm6032
@libertymicrofarm6032 2 жыл бұрын
@@pamelaremme38 that just goes to show you how little you know about roosters. Spurs are actually an outgrowth of bone covered by a sheath of horn. A spur grows from the base outwards. Like an animals toenail, there is only a blood supply at the base and the tip can be easily trimmed. Spurs continuously grow and can get quite long. To control the length of a roosters spurs you can either trim each spur, or remove them. When you remove a spur you leave the base and only take off the hard outer covering.

@@libertymicrofarm6032 You are so very wrong. I've had and still have flocks of birds. Check out Cackle Hatchery. Look it up. It is WEEKS of pain to do it your way. You trim them just like you would a dogs nails and avoid the quick. You have been misinformed. RESEARCH.
