She is wrong here. I understand wanting to make it on her own, but this was the wrong call. All kinds of people get jobs because someone recommended them. It is not like they were just slapping her name on some paperwork and giving her fake credit. She would still have to do the work, and the quality of her work would determine her reputation in the industry and future jobs. She would still be making it on her own talent and hard work - he was just opening a door for her. This kind of pride definitely qualifies as stupid. He wasn't giving her something for free. He was giving her a chance to prove herself and earn it on her own merits...for which she treated him badly. If it had been a teacher or someone from her field who had given her this opportunity, she would have accepted it as them recognising her talent and helping her develop.
