I really like this city. I'll always get a kick out the varying definitions of small and rural. Odate has a population of almost 68,000 so it's only small when compared to larger Japanese cities. Never the less, it has a small town vibe. Nathan kind of went to the dogs for this trip. It just shows what things interest people can be very different. I mean who could resist going to the Akita centric locations, not I. However Odate, also has a teflon dome covering what repudiated to be the largest wooden stadium in the world. I would have needed to see that. Dome is needed because it's a winter city that gets lots of snow. That bakery coffee shop was very impressive for anywhere and that melon cake while it made my mouth water. Without following Nathan's adventures I doubt if I'd have heard about this location, but now I too want to visit it for a few days. How was that restaurant that you ended your live stream on. It had my interest peaked from it's great look and I hope the food lived up to decor. Thanks for this tour, I'm both excited for this type of content, while being jealous as all hell that I'm not there.

Yes although Odate has a 68000 population the city seems quite spread out and there aren’t many high rise buildings .. In fact the city has 75 persons per km². The total area of the city is 913.22 square kilometres! When looking at it like this that 68,000 figure no longer looks big hehe! .. I should have stayed an extra night to check out some other smaller things. The restaurant was fully booked! (Another reason to return!) ..

I love dogs, but my first trip to Japan will be limited to Nara, Kyoto and Tokyo. So I can save some money and take my time to get more familiar with this country. If I like it, I may come back, but then to the north and then I like to look at the birthplace of the Akita.

During the Pacific War, akita dog were almost all killed off for their fur. The women here are said to be the most beautiful in Japan and, because of the cold Winters, they are considered to be very patient and make the best wives ... Akita culture and dialect are so strange to me ... I don't really understand it at all ...

Need to find myself a Akita girl then hehe
