It might be awhile until season 2 comes out, but it'll be well worth the wait. That being said, I have a couple of theories, and there are some facts that could back them up. I say 'could' because it's all circumstantial, nothing concrete. It's heavily assumed that Mr. Martin was the one who locked Wally, Rhonda, and Charley in the fallout shelter, however, the lock didn't reset. How he was able to do that is a mystery. Well, we all know that Mr. Martin *wanted* them locked in there, but whether he locked it himself or not is unknown because we didn't actually see who locked the door. My theory is that Mr. Martin told a living person to lock it for him. That would explain why it didn't reset. We all know that Simon can see and hear Maddie, so we can't rule out the possibility that another living person can see and hear Mr. Martin. The only living person I can think of is Mr. South. The last time we saw him was when Sandra almost ran him over, and that was after he was arrested, which means he's out on bail. In episode 2, Mr. South somewhat talked about the scars of the school, which hints that he might know something about the spirit world. This doesn't necessarily mean that he's a bad guy. If anything, Mr. Martin is probably manipulating him - making him think he's doing the right thing. Of course, we don't know Mr. Martin's true intentions, either. Only time will tell. In episode 5, Mr. South was taking videos of the crime scene where Maddie's blood was. Although he explained why he was doing that, it could also be that he was documenting that for Mr. Martin. Also, in episode 6, the cops suddenly found Mr. South's bloody crowbar, which led to his arrest. Someone had obviously planted it there. Who else would've done that other than Janet, right? (Maybe Sheriff Baxter, but I doubt it) I'm thinking that Janet intentionally framed Mr. South to remove Mr. Martin's only connection to the living world. This is the most logical explanation I can think of, but I could be dead wrong.

My theory is that Martin can take a body just like Janet did, only he doesn't stay in it but just use it for a bit before switching back. I think he planted the bloody crowbar because he couldn't prevent Maddie from investigating, so he wanted to mislead her.

Janet ran at Maddie, so it could've just been the impact that knocked her spirit out. Someone else also suggested that maybe Mr. Martin can possess Mr. South as he pleases because Mr. South appears to be confused at times. That's definitely a possibility.

I'm not the only one who absolutely loved Dawn's character, right? As a bullied person myself, the way she was holding on to her resentment and was roaming around the school for all those years, only for crossing over after some nice words just broke me. It shows just how long she had wanted to hear that all this time, and that it was all she needed, for someone to tell her that she was fine the way she was, she deserved better than what happened to her and that she's a good friend, because she didn't do anything bad to anyone, and yet she had endured so much hurt. Im so happy for her, if she is ever reborn, it would be nice to see her retain her quirky and kind personality while also having many good friends.

So, apparently Mr. Martin found a way to manipulate physical objects? It's implied earlier in the show that Janet had "left" some time before, as they were all used to her being gone, not wondering what happened to her, etc., and nobody linked her disappearance to the appearance of the new girl. Her seat in the group was already considered vacant when Maddie joined. So, Mr. Martin must have been keeping Janet locked in the bomb shelter, telling the others that she'd crossed over until Maddie opened the door and she was able to escape by taking over Maddie's body. Maybe he felt a need to "show results" (have one of them "successfully cross over") to keep the rest in line and following his instructions?

@@nomcebombhele842 The amount of episodes. Shows that start off with under 12/13 episodes twnd to be on a tight budget. They usually only stick with that amount because of cost for casting, writers, editors in audio and visual, and last but not least sets and makeup/ wardrobe artists. There is soooo much that goes into even making 1 small season with 8 episodes and anyone who has been in the industry and on one can tell you there is alot of money that goes into it. They can also tell you that there are many things they would have done different if given the budget. Directors and screenplay writers would certainly do more if they were not under tight budget restraints. The whole show is dependent on the investors and patrons money to determine if they can even get off the ground to film; let alone get green lit for a second season. Most shows that get cancelled all of sudden is due to loosing said support. Veiwership plays a role too, but i think you get the idea. Some shows even show cut/deleted scenes thst were filmed but they just didnt have enough time in said episodes to keep it in. Even well budgeted shows have said constraints. Imagine what shows could do if they could do as much as they wanted to do? Unfortunatly it mostly comes down to money, for any and all movies and shows. I hope i answered your question. I dont think this show is badly done or anything. I really enjoyed it and hope for a second season. This is just my thought proccess when i see a low amount of episodes. ( also,my apologies for any mispelled words. Im not on my usual device that lets me check everything over for errors before submitting comments)

That's a good surprise twist ending. Seems to be well set up. The viewer learns things as the characters do. But not in a clumsy way. The characters, alive and dead, make assumptions, which are often wrong or simply mistaken and partially wrong. Seems to be pretty well written and acted for what could have easily devolved onto lazy schlock. Some of the clips, though, show ghost Maddie picking up real-world stuff. I thought they couldn't interact with the real world. And then they were locked in somewhere. How could that happen? Or was it the live people locked in somewhere. With this recap I sometimes got confused about who was alive and dead.

If you watched the video (not sure if you did completely) but it says Charlie and Wally investigate in the basement about not feeling what they did when Dawn 'moved on' when supposedly Janet did, when they should have done. They find evidence that Mr Martin was not the only casualty of the fire at the school like he stated, but Janet (another teacher there i think) was also and that he (Mr Martin) was responsible for it too. Maddie may have been able to see Mr Martin and Janet as ghosts, just like Simon can see and/or hear Maddie as a ghost. Janet's spirit is now in Maddie's body which explains why Maddie, though not dead technically, is a ghost now. Soul displacement.
