I once had a date scheduled with a guy, he called me the morning of the date and said he had to cancel…when I asked why, he said he didn’t feel well….I came to find out from a mutual friend that he had just been fired that morning. He canceled because we had reservations at a very nice restaurant he picked and wanted to impress me ….when he was fired, he knew he would be able to afford taking me out ….I felt sooo bad and asked him over to my place for dinner…..we ended up getting g married

Wish my last gf gave me that same courtesy lol. Unfortunately she didn't come to that realization until a good 9 or 10 months into a serious relationship with me. I mean we're close friends now (some weird stuff happening between us right now actually if I'm being honest), but 4 or so years ago when we broke up it left me pretty headfucked. I mean I was WAY into this girl and it seemed as if she felt the same way, however apparently she was only with me in an attempt to get over her ex who she literally broke up with to be with me. Naturally I wasn't aware of this at the time, but apparently it really messed her up and she was more or less just dating me for a variety of entirely selfish reasons, so when we finally did break it off she was allegedly doing so entirely for my benefit because she felt she wasn't being honest with me and she was also still reeling at the loss of her ex. Granted she did leave him, but it was more so the fact that she was so upset that it couldn't have worked out with him otherwise coupled with losing him. He offered her certain things like stability, comfort, and he was a total pushover for her in almost every situation. However there were a few particularly important areas that he fell entirely short with that acted as proverbial deal breakers, so even if he did have some benefits to offer she was pretty unhappy. I guess I filled in most of the areas he wasn't able to for her, so she thought a change was in order. It became pretty apparent shortly into the span of our coupling that she hadn't at all considered the deeper implications and long-term repercussions of her decision and/or perhaps thought that the new relationship with me would be enough to mask any potential emotional toll that would arise. In either case she was drastically mistaken and sorely miscalculated because I swear it was like a friggin' switch was flipped, and suddenly she was practically insufferable to be around and developed quite the proverbial "Jeckyl and Hyde" complex, unpredictably jumping from caring, endearing, and endlessly affectionate to being temperamental, cold, mean-spirited, even downright deliberately and aggressively adversarial and cruel. It would even happen mid-conversation when we would be spending time together and I could literally watch her entire demeanor shift inside of a second or two. Her facial expression, vocal tambor/cadence, posture, even the ambiance within the local environment would just suddenly change and in some ways begin to dull, even "sag" if you will. It was fucking freaky man seriously, and as an empathic/INFJ personality type myself I was always especially sensitive to such things and it would always begin to make me literally physically ill if I had to sit and friggin' marinate in that toxic-ass shit for any extended amount of time. In some cases she would then start drinking of course thinking it would help her feel better, but all it did was make her more malicious, vindictive, and petty in her attempts to get a rise outta me or try to make me jealous or whatever only to have me end up holding her hair back and comforting her at the end of the night while she ralphed her guts out. It seemed like a phase and I knew something was going to and just HAD to give if we were ever going to work out, so fortunately we split when we did. Clearly she had quite a bit of self-work and introspection to do before she could ever be in a healthy relationship of any kind, not to mention some untreated mental health struggles to address (she'll admit this herself, although she's yet to actually seek out treatment for what is clearly major depressive disorder; I would know I've been doing the same dance and seeing all manner of shrinks and therapists since the 5th grade on and off lol). I love her to pieces and we talk almost every day, but since we've been reconnecting more and more over the last year or so it's become clear that she's still really struggling and frankly I'm quite worried about her. I wish I would have kept in better touch with her over the last few years and been there for a few particularly bad periods. She just seemed so upset with me when we split that any communication since then had been rather sparse and misleading. She seemed so happy otherwise. Now I come to understand that she's literally barely holding it together and regularly talks about hurting herself and shit. Like the other day she's throwing herself at me and talking really sexual and everything (which is weird for her in any context really, so immediately red flags are going up for me), then a day later she's talking about deleting herself and how her family doesn't care about her and such. We spent like almost four days together - 3 or 4 days ago at this point, and no NOTHING happened beyond some cuddling that was entirely initiated by HER - so now we're talking about all this emotional stuff remaining from the past, though that's mostly on me; it's a long story. Idk wtf to do honestly, I'm just worried about her. Definitely not trying to be with her again or anything, at least not right now. I just want her to AT LEAST seek out some professional help and maybe begin to deal with her depression, but she just won't. I can't say anything about it anymore because she just gets upset and shuts me out right away, but idk what other help I can offer beyond the rest of the advice and reinforcement I've already offered, which she just tends to brush off as empty platitudes and rhetorical bullshit. Kinda feeling pretty helpless in this situation and at a loss honestly because all things aside I DO care for her and want to see her happy, healthy, content, and fulfilled. I hate these situations man, truly I do. Jeezus tapdancing friggin' christ; that escalated quickly... Sorry, it's been a long few weeks dude. I just read your comment and with everything going on with my ex right now I was like "Man, I *feel* you right now bro!" lol. Just immediately felt some radical empathy with you there, an entirely ambiguous and faceless stranger. Again, my personality type is prone to such phenomenon on occasion haha. Pretty crazy bizzare how that can happen though right? Cool, but bizarre nonetheless...

I understand from observation and personal experience how painful those situations can be. I’m sure you care about this person a lot and obviously we l hope she would not hurt themselves . I understand being there. But on the other side I think you have to weigh what’s best for you solely along with the fact of what she’s done to you vs what could have been / what could be and which paths you can take in life that will lead to a spectrum of results on both sides. Take your choice and accept the consequences good or bad , it is at the end of the day your life and your choice to have someone in your life in any form but after a certain pattern of behavior I beleive you become somewhat responsible for the results they bring as well upon your life. TLDR: I was stood up once. But I found out why a year later, and it changed my perspective. When I was in college I hit it off with a girl in one of my classes. We were talking for a couple days and i really liked her, and she seemed interested in me. I asked her out to a study date at the library and she said yes. The day of I confirmed we were still on, set up at the library with books and coffee, she told me she was five minutes away and that she'd be there soon. Five minutes, ten minutes, an hour, goes by and she stoped responding to my texts. I finally understood I had been stood up. It's an aweful feeling I would ever wish on anyone, mostly confusing. I sent her a nasty message and decided to forget it but It still bruised my ego for a long time. However about a year later I was talking with another girl who I found out just so happened to be best friends with the first girl, obviously she told her about me because one day out of the blue she asks "do you remember Jane doe?". Begrudgingly I say yes and that I'd rather not talk about it. But she then goes on to explain how the girl really did like me and wanted to so badly to see me that day, she was even telling the truth that she was on her way to the library. But she got cold feet last minute because she had just gotten out of a terribly abusive relationship with another man, and she was afraid that if he found out that she was seeing someone else that he'd try to hurt her or me. He had hurt her before. Rather than try to explain the situation she just gave up. Obviously it still wasn't fair to me, but she was in a terrible place mentally, and was unable to think logically. She was scared. In that moment I felt terrible for sending her a hurtful message, and learned a valuable lesson. You can never truly know what thoughts are behind the actions of others, you never know what someone might be going through. before passing judgment on others for offenses against you, consider for a moment that there are truths and reasonings that may be out of your control and understanding, and stop worrying about them. Stop worrying about how others act, and worry only about how you act. It will make you a stronger, more caring, more loveable person, and nothing will be able to faze you. Not even being stood up :)
@jammijam_

@happygolucky9004
@happygolucky9004 Жыл бұрын
Oh no, you can and absolutely should make a judgement. That doesn't mean judgemental but you can make a logical inference from the situation. If the person didn't have the decency to let you know it tells you they are not respectful. You may not know the reason why but it still says they need work on their character. It doesn't mean they are a bad or good person but you can make the judgement that they are not good for you. My Dad had a heart attack and while I was driving to the hospital I still called my date to cancel and tell them why. I was in an abusive relationship and had a similar situation which is why I didn't date anyone for a while after and went to therapy.

I got stood up in that same way where shes saying shes on her way - then ghost... and I too sent an angry message because I thought it was a cruel prank and shes probably even watching from somewhere thinking this is funny. I never thought about it this way and I feel guilty right now that I never considered maybe she wanted to but was just scared or whatever. I was too wrapped up in my own insecurity and anger that I'd been stood up.

If I was waiting for someone and they'd be sending that they'll be there soon just minutes before the scheduled time, and then didn't come, my first reaction would've been that something happened to them, and I would be worried if they're ok. It wouldn't even cross my mind that they would stood me up. I'd rather give people credit before I assume the worst of them. But thanks for sharing the story, it looks like a valuable lesson👍.

Everyone experiences rejection. I’m not embarrassed for them working it out even if it takes a few steps. It sucks and people can overthink. I imagine many people probably reminded her that it’s not always personal. I’m personally grateful for people who are authentic. She didn’t state his name or anything aggressive like that. I remember in high school. I got stood up by a girl. She was interested and I got all excited. I planned out the date. The restaurant I used to work at time is pretty nice so I got a table top for two. Showed up to the restaurant(I planned on my day off). Got a table for two. Ready to say “order whatever is on the menu.” Because I get the employee discount. I dressed casual but enough to make a impression and my boy helped me out with clothes because I wasn’t as wealthy at the time either. I probably felt confidence for the first time in my life. 7 o’clock rolls in, time to start, I get my complimentary appetizers, my coworker who is a server was watching my table, and I started prepping. An hour goes by and nobody shows up. I paid $15 dollars and left. Came back the next day to work. Only to see the $15 and the same coworker/server Feeling bad after cashing out at the end of that night. Moral of the story, I hate that I expected this fairy tail and happy ending. A few weeks later I saw her again during passing time. I asked “what happened?” She Found out I don’t believe in a religion and specifically a church and beliefs that I don’t practice everyday.

She said "stood up" instead of cancel for a reason and even though its been going on for a while, its running rampant throughout society. She "among the many others who use this tactic" said she was stood up because she knew it would create a greater emotional reaction from the audience. Call it manipulation, propaganda or whatever but it literally happens ALL THE TIME in every avenue and spectrum of society. Once you start to notice it, you can't unsee it and can call it out every time even if its from your own "group".

100% agree with you guys. As a woman who was quite attractive back in her prime that is exactly how it works. We all have our preferences but it's about what we can command in the dating market. And as you age or if your personality or social skills is underdeveloped you're going to struggle and people do look at you as a second option. It hurts but that's life. The sooner we all realise, that until you form a proper bond with someone you don't actually really matter to most people, the more resilient we can learn to be. Harsh reality but if we are honest with ourselves we know we treat others exactly the same. Until you show your value to someone and them to you and you mutually appreciate what the other brings to the table it's all shallow stuff. That's why dating is so hard and frustrating but it won't get less frustrating with a lack of awareness.

I saw an article how some people tested it and in a large metropolitan city, created female profiles with plain jane profile pictures - 1000s of likes in a day. say she matches with just 1% thats 10+ a day every day. They cant even talk to all these guys (ever notice some matches take forever to reply? You are one of many and not high on her list). The occasions where I get quickfire back and forth is a rush though because shes clearly in to me, but even then she could be chatting to several other guys. Doesn't mean im her first choice.. and thats happened too, I'll see real rapport build, shes replying almost instantaneously with long verbose messages and think this is going somewhere only to be ghosted in the middle of some seemingly real connection and deep chat. Reason? I wasnt her first choice. Sucks a bit

If I'm not really in the mood but the person has showed a genuine interest in me as a person I see them as a more long term prospect potentially and I will be likely to go ahead and honour the plan I made regardless. I think if ur arranging a first date and give vague responses or none about if/why you can’t go on a date despite what you described and they don’t go out of their way to make it seem like they care that much about your vague excuse or reasons or don’t care for your flakeyness and than unmatch or unfollow you I don’t think that’s unreasonable. I think especially when it comes to women having poor/vague/no excuses a lot of dudes are quick to grovel and be too permissive and give too much credence to women who by allowing such behavior will realize the guy giving her all this leeway to flake doesn’t value himself or time. The only thing someone ought to care about when it comes to you on a first date is you showing up for that date and/or respecting that persons time by cancelling accordingly if you can’t make it. If you give me any of the above I’m not going to pretend i care or be bothered to read someone’s mind and be permissively allowing them to waste my time and energy by not being forward with me. If you can’t even dignify a response I’m not going to bother with a second date. Too many s!mps out here pretending to care about some chicks vague excuse when the chick doesn’t even value their time nor respects enough to be forward about going out.

I had to learn "its not about you" the hard way around 5 or 6 years ago. I really liked this girl, I got an idea for a great date because she mentioned wanting to try a certain food she saw online that wasn't in our town but I'd just been to a place that had it in a nearby city. I asked her out and she said yes. I hadn't been that attracted to AND gotten along with a girl that much in a long time so I was super excited. The day before the date, she canceled, offering an excuse I could tell was a lie, so I was mad. I didn't cuss at her, but I messed up really bad and let my anger at her not being up front known. After that, even though I wasn't mad and wasn't going to pester her for a future date, she didn't even want to talk to me as a friend anymore and when I asked if she thought I was going to trip with her, she said yes. I later found out from her friend that she was genuine when she said yes, but later realized she wasn't as over her breakup a month before as she thought. This girl went from hanging around the front of the store she worked in to talk to me when I passed to walking to the back if she thought I was going to pass by on the way to a different store. It was completely unnecessary, but ultimately it was on me for lacking the maturity to take the L, get upset privately, and keep it moving. If I hadn't overreacted, I probably would have got another shot after more time. At the very least, I wouldn't have lost someone I liked talking to at work.

Here’s the thing though. Why would you want another shot at her? Sure I agree be angry in private but still why are you worried about how you could have got another shot after more time? Personally the fact she wasn’t honest with you about why she canceled and you had to find out from a mutual friend would tell me that I wouldn’t want to date that girl if I was you. A date is the first impression. It’s like a job interview. That’s the absolute BEST they will ever act around you, and the fact she couldn’t be honest from the start means it wouldn’t have been a good way to start a relationship. I’m not saying hold a grudge, or that she didn’t have a valid reason. But if someone isn’t willing to be honest, you still dodged a future breakup. This is the only time I disagree with Aba and preach. Getting flaked on is rude behavior full stop. Not being honest or forthcoming of why you’re flaking is also incredibly rude. Don’t tolerate rudeness.
