People often say that when you battle cancer, life takes on a new meaning - you gain a deeper perspective, more patience, more empathy. That the struggle shapes you into a better human being. But I don’t see the same case here. Not everyone’s journey is the same. Not everyone comes out of it with a heart full of kindness. And it’s heartbreaking to witness that firsthand. How can someone, who has been through the same storm, harbor such vile thoughts toward another? Especially when they should understand better than anyone what it means to endure? Her surgery lasted 15 hours. So what? Does that invalidate another’s pain? Does that give someone the right to belittle another’s suffering? I’m not angry. Just… disheartened. When I see this kind of behavior, I start to lose faith in humanity. It makes you wonder - where is the compassion? Where is the understanding? Sad. Just sad.
