The novel portrayed all women he favored over the second empress as evil plotters, as a twist against the mainstream which says the second empress was evil. But the real emperor hated his second empress , and favored so many women, apart from all these titled concubines, he had 100 untitled women called just as "lady", not maids, and he wanted huge bribes from people around. Money and sex were his dreams.
