This scene is so bitter sweet. She finally ended the toxic cycle of being the scape goat for so many situations that weren't her fault. This was probably the most freeing moment she's ever felt since being empress. I feel for her because in the end he only realized it too late, so much so that she was so detached from him that she (SPOILER ALERT: had unfortunately almost lost all of the people that she loved because of her love for him. SPOILER ALERT: I am still in a way glad that she had went on her own terms and that she was able to let herself rest peacefully.

Even though she never said it, the princess looks truly regretful in this scene. Her whole life she kept thinking that Ruyi is evil and coveted the empress seat. But after Ruyi cut her hair it seems like she realises Ruyi was not the person her mother described. Someone else said this was also the first time she referred to Ruyi as Queen Mother.

He let himself to be blinded as his position as emperor and forgotten why he truly loved her in the beginning when he was still a prince. Exactly😢 ppl were literally gossiping about him and were disrespecting him and everyone in the forbidden city, because they felt comfortable enough to do it because of his actions. Her job as empress but also as his wife is to make sure he has an upstanding reputation and he ruined it for six brothel girls, but when she tried to tell him what was going on she was wrong. Ruyi and maybe 4 other concubines truly loved him, and wanted nothing for the best of him, and he still chose to indulge women who he KNEW were using him.

As they say, this was the straw that broke the camel's back. This man, who claimed to love Ruyi put her in the Cold Palace for three years, based on lies and false evidence. Placed her under house arrest for supposed infidelity with the Grand Master allowed Suoxin to be tortured so, Ruyi' reputation would be cleared and the absolute betrayal was what he did to a man who saved Ruyi many times from harm only to be put to death are being tortured and mutilated, due to this Emperor unable to discern what is probable and what is not. He had no faith in who he claims to love. All he ever did was blame, criticize and ridicule Ruyi. This was all due to her not having a strong maiden clan like all the other traitorous concubines. The only thing that was important to this man-child was how others perceived him and his legacy. He was in love with the idea of being in love. There was never any trust and everyone has their limit, Ruyi simply could no longer excuse as seached had reached hers.

Actually when it comes to the issue of the Cold Palace, it's the one time the Emperor really did the best he could. If he hadn't made the decision to demote her and put her in the Cold Palace, the power of the other harem women and their famlies would have forced his hand to have her executed for the "killing of imperial heirs". He knew she was innocent then because he knew Ruyi would never harm a child, however all the circumstantial evidence and A'Rou betraying her and pointing the finger at her had the rest of the harem out for her blood (well except for the ringleaders, but they were out to get her for other reasons). By placing her in the Cold Palace, he was trying to protect her from being tortured to force an admission of guilt and then a death sentence until he could figure out a way to prove her innocence and point the finger at the true culprit. Was it a great choice? No, but honestly I think he didn't have many options and for this instance, I can't really blame him. All the other times? He's a total d****.

Well from Jingse perspective, Ruyi is the one who cause her mother misery and prolong suffering, and forced her to marry away in Mongolia 🤣🤣 But she already knew Yanwan is nonsense, she used her as Ruyi's counterbalance, not letting Ruyi to overpower like her mom 😏😏 I think Jingse is a good daughter to Qianlong and Empress Xiaoxian, she even tolerated Yongqi, who is Ruyi's adopted son when he still alive
