She's right. I think a lot of people don't mind some typos/errors because there seems to be a lot of fan fiction readers into serials. People just want an engaging story. Traditional book readers seem to be more uptight about it (uptight about Vella in general. I hear them say they want their book all at once. They don't get it).

Wow! what an excellent interview. Since 2014, I published 3 books on KDP and never once made that kind of monthly income. The key take away for me is the "paid to post content." Not how many "likes" or "favs" but rather frequency matters.

You just need to wait until 30d after your Vella is finished then you can launch the book on kdp.

Thank you, Angela, for the Fussy Librarian tip! Amazon is actually paying authors for the free episodes/tokens through December 2022. They keep extending it, thankfully! The bonuses will continue (the pool is growing). People have been panicking about that all year because the royalties are so low. There's no way the program could continue without the bonuses. Authors would not tolerate writing and writing for $3 in royalties per month.

That is the issue I have with Vella. It's about the bonuses, without that there is no point: 1. Not for the reader, that will spend more money paying for chapters than paying for the whole KU suscription, where you have infinite books; 2. and definitely not for the writers, as it won't make enough money just selling chapters. I made $8 this month just with the page count of KU on a new publish book, and hopefully my income will increase eventually, as it is available on paperback, e-book and for free for readers. More option for readers to get to it than paying everytime the want ot read a chapter.

The best part is you can do both. Put it on Vella. Wait 30 days. Put it on KU. I believe the audience is different on the two platforms.

@@titobari After your book is complete and you've waited 30 days after posting your last episode on Vella, you may put it on KDP, including KU. I've done it with two books. You may also go wide instead of KU if that is your preference. As was mentioned in the interview, you can't do it the other way. You can't put something on KU then try to put it on Vella.

Great interview. I have a 1st draft manuscript just sitting for the past couple of months because I do not have the funds for professional editing. This would be a great option to post on KV and I could self-edit to the best of my ability piece by piece, and obtain feedback. Being able to earn the money for editing before uploading to KDP is wonderful. I am curious if the reviews from KV transfer over once you upload your full book to KDP?

You don't need to mark it completed. You just need to make sure you wait 30 days before compiling things into a book on KDP or publishing elsewhere.

@@SelfPubMadeSimple Yeah, it's still very beta...which is why I'm shocked at how people bailed during the first year. People wanted to jump in at ground level and get rich I guess. They're building a catalog. It wouldn't make sense to open to the world without a library! So my mind boggled over people jumping ship when it's only been a year since launch. But I'm guessing a lot of those people aren't writers, but opportunists looking to find an exploit to making hundreds of thousands. And a lot of people don't understand that serials ARE popular outside of the States. It makes no sense to bail at this point. Thank you so much for posting this. It's great!

That is the beauty of it! It is yours and you can still publish the book after the Vella is done. You just cannot take a previously published book and put it on Vella.

People writing erotica used to make thousands every month with hardly any effort. Then some well meaning people started talking about it and ruined it by attracting other authors until they flooded the scene. The vella bonuses are divided between the number of authors in the pool. She won't make that much for too long if she keeps telling people about it.
