Many people still naively and ignorantly think that Australia is an independent country, and the fact that the Australian Constitution directly states that everything is decided by the British monarch is just a "tribute to history". Recently, the British King Charles III visited his Australian colony, but there the local senator Lydia Thorpe decided to oppose this and demanded that Charles return their land and independence, and also said that he is not their king! Note that this is not a homeless person from the train station speaking, but a whole SENATOR who understands who owns the land and who really governs Australia. This is what a small part of the resistance to the British occupation of Australia looks like, which is still being exploited by the British monarchy.

@@serzh1950 Protest is a constitutional right and everyone including the senator has this legal right, however its not the message , it was HOW it was delivered! There is a right way and wrong way to protest, and this was most definitely the WRONG way! even if you disagree with someone, yelling and screaming shows lack of maturity, lack of respect and most of all lack of tact. She was just putting on a show for "her" audience. plain and simple.

Senator Lidia Thorpe has been like this from the day she took the oath when first elected. She wore her possum fur cloak and raised her fist the first time she entered the Senate chamber. She is rude, crude and unapologetic, BUT DOES NOT SPEAK FOR THE MAJORITY OF AUSTRALIANS. Even the Indigenous elders decried her outburst. Before she got elected, she kept most of her thoughts to herself. She pushed her environmental credentials and was originally part of the Greens Party. They kicked her out, due to her crude, performative tactics in Parliament and outside. She thinks that hers, is the only opinion that matters. She has just put the indigenous issue back about 20 years, IMO. They do have grievances but also refuse to take responsibility for any bad experiences that they have had, especially with law enforcement. I hope King Charles and Queen Camilla understand that 80% of Australians do not agree with her. Unfortunately, being in the Senate, now as an independent, she is not up for re-election until 2028. As an Australian, we apologise for her extremely bad manners. Even before they showed her face, we all groaned and knew it would be her.

The speaker threw his hands in the air and the person continued and so did Thorpe with her interruptions. No attempt was made to either shut her up or throw her out so she knows she can get away with whatever antic she wants to pull.

Although I understand the symbolism of the royal family in regards to colonialism, Britain is no longer a colonial power. The commonwealth is a very unique alliance in the world, one based on shared social, ethical and political principals, every other alliance I can think of is either a military or economic. As the rift between the rich and the poor widens we need to be focusing on people like Elon Musk, the Kardashians, etc who do not view themselves as public servants, and have no sense of duty to anyone but themselves. Also the corporate entities mining Australia are the ones doing damage to Aboriginal land not Charles who is a passionate environmentalist and a highly principled man. For these reasons I believe the royal family are a positive influence in the world at this point.

Nova said she was speaking on behalf of Indigenous Elders who are angry and shamed that Lidia spoke in the manner she did to the King. They said it’s not their way . Their way is for great leaders to sit together and respectfully discuss , which the King did when he was Prince and visited Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. They said that he listened to their concerns and reassured them that he was supportive of their issues. Hopefully one of our other Senators has found a way that she can be dismissed. She then even upset them, and 'resigned' from the Greens, but through what is a very serious fault in the Senate - is able to hold onto that seat as an Independant. A 6 year term with a very tidy pension at the end of it should you resign. I’m appalled by some really vile comments. Australia have been disgraced by such awful behaviour. If you want to change the status, hold a referendum and do it properly. Don’t spread hate … vote for what you want, through the ballot and not through hateful behaviour. Advance Australia FAIR???

Gentlemen when the media interview themselves (not you two of course) and have a preconceived idea of what we should be thinking they take themselves down a long and winding cul de sac..The Australian public (the silent majority) always seem to surprise the media but we always knew C&C would be welcomed warmly 😊 we appreciate Charles and Camilla for the work that they do and their commitment to service .

As an Aboriginal woman, I understand her anger, I understand the emotions, unless you've walked the path of having your lands stolen, cultures destroyed and families decimated...all of which is within living memory and we continue to deal with daily, you will not understand...what I dont agree with is how Lydia chose to express her desire to undertake dialogue with Charles. There were so many other ways to express what we need him to hear. As Aboriginal people...we are survivors of the British invasion, you have taken our lands, you will never take our spirits of survival! 🖤💛❤️👣✊🏾

Maybe Lidia Thorpe should have a little look into her own Aboriginal history as a Gunai woman. It was the Gunai, also spelt Kurnai, that wiped out an entire Bunurong clan of 60-70 men, women, and children back in 1830s Victoria, near present day Brighton, near Melbourne. The Warrowen massacre, Warrowen meaning either “Incessant Weeping,” or “Place of Sorrow.” Maybe it’s she who should say SORRY, to the Bunurong people, pay reparations, and give the Bunurong people their land back that her Gunai people stole, after wiping a whole clan out! So you see, even within the many Aboriginal tribes, there was great conflict, and colonisation.
