I hope she had a lovely wedding and mom kept her awful mouth shut.
@KVeren3 жыл бұрын
Mother's rudeness aside, I'm heartbroken on so many levels by the fact that this woman hated her first wedding dress so much that she wasn't even happy walking down the aisle. I love these episodes and it's fun seeing women find a dress they love, but the failure to find THE ONE dress shouldn't ruin your wedding, and certainly not to the degree that it would even be a factor in the need to go through all the expense and drama of having a second wedding a few years later. The dream of the perfect wedding is a nice one, but all I can see in this episode are the negative and destructive aspects of that ideal.
@malloryg42513 жыл бұрын
I think you're missing the point. In this particular episode, it seems that the daughter was FORCED to have a rushed wedding because she was pregnant and the conservative families didn't want her to have a child out of wedlock. No doubt, this young woman wasn't ready to get married just yet, and the fact that she had to suddenly walk down the aisle was very traumatizing. Plus, I can't imagine all the horrible, shameful things her mom was saying to her before the first wedding. This goes much deeper than just finding the perfect dress.
@KVeren3 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree that there is a lot more going on here from a family dynamic standpoint and that this whole thing goes deeper than finding the perfect dress - but I guess my point is that folks often seem to anchor a lot of their emotion and expectation on the physical items that go into the wedding (such as the "perfect dress") with the expectation that this will secure meaningful happiness/stronger relationship. While I think it is likely that you are right and she was pressured into something she wasn't ready for, I am still disturbed and saddened by her implication that finding the right dress will help her husband feel like he made "the right decision". Maybe what she means is that she didn't look happy because she didn't feel beautiful and was pressured, causing him to doubt if this was the right decision - but the way she phrased it sure made it sound like some of her feelings were because of the dress. Did her family put this into her head that he would feel this way because she didn't look a certain way? Probably, but I also feel that there is a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle messaging in our society that pressures brides to feel this way as a whole.
