She-Ra's Noelle Stevenson Gets Real About How the Series Changed Her Life

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power has come to an end after five seasons, finishing on a high note that promises a bright future for Adora and her friends-as well as the woman who helped reinvent them. io9 sat down (virtually) with showrunner Noelle Stevenson for a chat about how she feels now that it’s all over.

I think they really excelled at intertwining the character arcs with each other and the plot so that the emotional beats really landed. The character and set design were flat out beautiful and really creative and shera looked awesome especially in this last season. There are problems with consistency with tone that I think stem from trying to appeal to a really wide demographic but that's to be expected. The show can have really tense, dark scenes with complex emotionally mature plot moments but at the same time have really flimsy reasoning for minor plot points, really naive secondary characters and dialogue that is way "jokey". They needed a bit more world building too, nothing outside of a couple spots like bright moon, frightzone, etc... feels "real" when the entire planet is supposed to be at war. None of those are deal breakers for me tho and I loved the show, flaws and all. I recommend the dragon prince if you haven't already checked it out.

halfrocanadian v Yeah , i agree , but considering the fact that the show didn’t need to be that dark at the beginning , not just for the audience , but to leave itself room to grow . And that’s just how it growed . . . Noelle Stevenson said herself she left the series empty ~ hearted and absolutely loved making it . She knew from the very start how the story would end , in a very open way ; leaving most of the arguments and speaking parts to US . I sill believe she’ll come back to this wonderful tale , she has enough characters to make lots of different plots . Each greater than the next .

I'm so sad it was a good show really and I still have loads of questions that were unresolved such as what happens to entraptas parents, adoras parents, will he man have some she ra in it, is light hope still alive, bows dads have a runstone shard who does it belong to, what happens to the best freind squad, what about all the other clones that are free know form hordeprime grasp, are some soilders still loyal to the horde, will catra get more of a recovery, angella is still trapped in a void is there a way to get him out, what will happen to the fright zone, does sqorpia get her kingdom back, are there new enemies that we will never get to see, does entrapta go on this best freind squad roadtrip? As you can see I still have a lot of questions but it was a good show overall.

i'm an old fan of he-man and she-ra from the 80's and today i like your she-ra and the princesses of power series the action and adventures its too bad the show is over i had hopes for more seasons so they can save angela i file sad for glimmer and also fix and make light hope good i also file dad for her and for adora to know her true home world and family and for her too finally know what is grayskull and eternia i know i herd he-man was not too be in this series like in the original 80's series but its so sad for adora too not get her answers of her real home and family and the only way to get them is for adora too meet her brother adam and see that he is like her too has a sword of power and can transform in too a great strong hero called he-man alot of fan like me had hopes for that i seen alot of fan art of that hope i herd you are planing to make a he-man and she-ra crossover christmas special with the help of kevin smith i herd he is making a new he-man series i hope it will come i like too see that crossover special i super hope it will work out good

I just feel like Adora's character isn't finished yet. Every other character had a lot of character development, but Adora kind of didn't. So I just hope we'll see more of her and see Adora and Catra get better and fix their problems together.

Adora actually had a really good arc, it was just very subliminal. Shadow Weaver's abuse towards her makes her feel like she has to self-sacrifice and take on other people's responsibilities for them. We see this over and over again, but it really hits on season 5 when the sword breaks. Without her clear-cut destiny, she tries to be perfect and save everybody, exhausting herself. On failsafe, she sacrifices herself for the heart, and she makes peace with death. Catra alludes to this arc when she says "what do you want Adora?", Adora always avoids the question, because he feels like she is not allowed to wish for anything, only her destiny is important. Only when she tells Catra she loves her, she finally chooses her dreams, and her arc is complete. I suggest watching Five by Five takes' analysis of Adora, she does a wonderful job at talking about her arc and growth.
