I think part of what made He Man so damned popular was that it merged roughly equal amounts of three different GENRES where each one BY ITSELF if done well would be enough to make an interesting story. Its my belief that a story is very fun if it can interweave at least 3 different literary genres. For example PREDATOR was part horror movie (monster), part futuristic high tech science fiction and part macho masculine action adventure movie with a lot of testosterone and adrenaline like Rambo, Commando, Dirty Dozen, Missing in action etc.... Well He Man was about a third futuristic high tech science fiction, about a third medieval sword and sorcery fantasy and about a third comic book style super hero adventures. She Ra was also that by extension as was Thundercats. GI Joe and Transformers and most other 1980s cartoons did NOT merge at least 3 DIFFERENT GENRES together so elegantly.

It’s amazing. I just have to hear the background music and I’m instantly transported back to being a kid back in the 80s again. I loved this show. This and Dungeons and Dragons. The 80 were the best decade😊
