This song is about how people treat celebrities like they're not really human. "I'm just like you, you're like me, imperfect and human are we" indicates is about how just because Melanie is a celebrity, that doesn't mean she's different from us. She's a human too and she's just like us and doesn't deserve to be treated any differently. "There are strangers taking pictures of me when I ask no more" is about how people take pictures of her without asking and apparently it's viewed as acceptable just because she's a famous celebrity.

In an interview with Alternative Press Magazine, Melanie revealed that the song was written back in March 2017, when she was performing at Lollapalooza Festival in Brazil. She stated that she was alone in her hotel room, having the feeling of isolation, and being mistreated as a human; she decided to sing and make a voice memo of it, singing only the chorus part. Similarly to Dollhouse, the song is about how celebrities are portrayed as 'perfect' by the public as well as how they're treated in the music industry. The lines, "Harsh words if you don't get a pic with me" and "There are strangers taking pictures of me when I ask "no more", also speak on an incident from 2016 where Melanie stopped fans from taking pictures of her without consent. "Art don't sell" - she published her movie K-12 on KZbin, available to everyone for free

I hope you guys will get the chance to check out "Strawberry Shortcake" on her K-12 album, or even getting the chance to watch the whole movie. Im so excited for you guys to get through the K-12 era and hear her most recent album as well. all I'll say is that the formulas feel super refreshing and you can REALLY see her growth. it focuses less on calling out issues in society (for the most part) and focuses more on a personal healing journey. it doesnt feel as "circus-y" either, so maybe you'll enjoy that album more ?

Try Ethel Cain; she’s sososo good, especially her songs American Teenager, Gibson Girl, Western Nights, and Inbred (the song, though Inbred the EP is awesome too.) she’s got this gothic Americana vibe to all her stuff, and her album Preacher’s Daughter has a whole storyline to it.
