@@kriscubero6778 It was due to the AVP property. The game is based on the comic and the human characters were original, but ever since Fox bought them out, they were co-owned by them. And you know how greedy these movie studios are. At least with Strider Hiryu, which was owned by a japanese manga author, the author gave Capcom written permission to use him freely in their games in exchange for a small percentage of the profits.

This was one of my favorite arcade games as a kid and it's so sad it doesn't get more credit. I was EXTREMELY happy when NECA did some figures of them, but wasn't making enough at my jobs to justify picking them up (along with having nowhere to display them). Their Chrysalis figure is exceptionally sick.

Arcade beat-em-ups are my favorite classic genre and I went through a phase where I tried to find and play every one in existence (using the evil that rhymes with scremulation). I played this in the arcade as a kid but very briefly. I was amazed at how many more mechanics Linn had vs all the other characters; it was almost as if she was already being treated as a fighting game character vs a typical BEU character.

Linn Kurosawa's definitely one of those "gone, but not forgotten" types since Capcom *knew* how good Linn's design was, so much that they felt the urge to salvage and split it up between two characters. Ibuki is just a salvaged and repurposed Linn. Literally look at official art of both characters and in general, it's the exact same character, just "as a different character." Ibuki is simply Linn Kurosawa in a ninja outfit. Then, since they loved Linn's outfit so much, but couldn't use Linn, thus had to create Ibuki to skirt the issue as mentioned--they created the Cannon Spike character Simone. Simone is an original character created for that game that salvages/references Linn Kurosawa's outfit (not a 1:1, but real close, even fights with a katana and gun too). It may not have been the most ideal outcome to lose one character to the purgatory that is licensing rights, but hey, at least we got Ibuki and Simone--whom they should've at least brought into crossover games as a Linn surrogate expy character, since she could reference all of her moves, too.

I love playing as Linn in AVP. And she's a combo pro character, better than the 2 Predators in the game. My tip is never lose her sword as she does better combos and more access to moves than without it. There is also a reference of Yuka Takeuchi in the Variable Geo games due to her appearance. And Akira(but not from Rival Schools) from Viper V16(and its spin-off sequel).

NECA did a Lynn/Dutch action figure combo. Also, the board game AvP: Hunt Begins has a Lynn Kurosawa miniature. Both of there are "fairly" recent, so I'm assuming the rights are with Fox/Disney now. ALSO, this full game is out for free on Android Mobile under, "The Aliens fights with predators" There is also a mod for Arcade1up cabinets that has this.

Linn and Moriah the Thief are the two characters I want to see most in a Capcom crossover game; and both a beat 'em up characters that if played effectively will hardly ever touch the ground, that have license issues that prevent them from being in more things, and are somewhat based on other characters from said licensed property (Machiko Noguchi for Lt. Linn and a character from a Clyde Caldwell painting made for the cover of the novel Red Sands for Moriah).

I was 9 years old when this game came out and I loved it...despite not having ever watched Aliens or Predator before as they were horror movies...the only horror movie I had seen at that time was the original dubbed version of Godzilla. I wish this game would get re-released and Linn could be in more games other than as just a reference. Though in 2019 she was added as a character in the AVP board game The Hunt Begins along with Dutch so at the least the Aliens vs Predator franchise can use her so she's not forgotten about...I also wish Maki would show up in more games as a playable character as she was a real fun character to play in Capcom vs SNK 2. IIRC Linn is essentially the game equivalent of Machiko Noguchi from the original AVP comics, since Capcom couldn't get the rights from Dark Horse, and her being an android is presumably a reference to the synthetics in the Alien Movies (though she unfortunately still bleeds red)

It's such a damn shame that the rights to this game are stuck in a logistical hell hole because it truly is the greatest beat-em-up ever made. So many others of its kind at the time feel to me like they put an artificial barrier of what your character is capable of for the sake of the kind of game it is, but AvP just doesn't have that every character has a skill ceiling of things you can legitimately lab for, and it also feels like it has less cheap nonsense to eat your money. And yeah. Linn Kurosawa is such an amazing design. Her being stuck in licensing purgatory is a damn crime against humanity.

Oh, Capcom remembers her so much they didn't let it go to waste and split Linn's design between two characters: Ibuki from Street Fighter III is just Linn Kurosawa in a ninja outfit, and then when they created the crossover spinoff game Cannon Spike, they just reused most all of Linn's outfit and put it on a new character named Simone. Not a 1:1 of Linn's, but real close, and Simone even fights with a katana and gun too. They should've at least brought Simone into crossover games as a surrogate/expy character, since she could've referenced all of her moves, too. Even funnier if they had Ibuki and Simone on that game together. That way you get both characters that were created *because* they couldn't use Linn, together in the same game. Bonus points if there were canonical "pairings" or teams in a crossover fighting game that Capcom put out with those two in it, and they were paired up as a wink and a nod to Linn. They actually used Simone for Teppen's "Operation Cannon Spike" event. It was nice to see (even if it's a mobile game) that the game Cannon Spike and its characters weren't forgotten! Shiba's another cool design from that that's surprisingly underutilized that at least got remembered as part of that game's event (and he's based on the Midnight Wanderers character Siva).

Before Streets of Rage 4, AvP was my favourite beat'em up of all time. But like a friend of mine always says when we play Streets of Rage 4, "this game ruined all other beat'em ups". Well, I wouldn't be so harsh since AvP also had this crazy aeriel juggle shit, and almost 30 years earlier. But Streets of Rage 4 does that better anyways.

I have such AWESOME memories associated with game. My brother and I ALWAYS sought it out in our local arcade and was always the game we put the most time into. I was so young back then too. I had to get a stoll from the back of the arcade to play half the games but man, when that "time to hunt" came on after my grandparents inserted quarters, my brother and I would pick both Predators (most of the time) or both Linn and Dutch and that first levels music, atmosphere and graphics would be booming in the arcade. It was like an event everytime we played. I'm glad there are people like us who have such fond memories of this beat em up classic. I actually bought the linn and Dutch action figure set for my brother last Christmas. He was so hype and had no idea they were a thing

Linn Kurosawa is pretty much what would happen if Chun-Li had a younger half-sister who joined the United States Colonial Marines to fight the Yautja and Xenomorphs.
