I was hospitalized for severe clinical depression years ago. It's true when it comes to the bed sleeping arrangements. They usually put two people in a room. They match you up based on gender and your mental illness. So I'm a young woman and they had me roomed with another woman who either suffered from clinical depression or Bipolar or a recovering drug addict. They wouldn't place me with a Schizophrenic for instance.

...been there. I had a terrible Psychiatrist that admitted me for a stupid reason, I had signed paperwork previously to consent to care but he made the decision, def wouldn't have signed voluntarily to be on an involuntary hold. I went to the Psych ER, was shipped off to a hospital very far away and held for several days. It's not like they wanted me to act sane, the key seemed to be that they wanted remorse and evidence of new thinking/plans before they'd believe me. In the end my heart went nuts (as happens when your hospital doesn't have my meds and others you give them to me wrong) and the Psychiatrist hurriedly came in and said 'do you think you need to be here?' I said no and they let me go with a heart rate of 150bpm, in Inglewood, with no transportation back to Lincoln Heights.

That is literally one of my fears. Since I hadn't found a therapist who doesn't freak out when I tell them I'm either Suicidal or haven’t been in a while. Then they give me a WHOLE lecture 😢. And threatens to put me in a hospital if I mentions something.
@ashegrey3042 Жыл бұрын
as someone with a bachelors in psychology (emphasis in addiction counseling) i will tell you it is required of the mental health professional to report if the client says they’re going to harm themselves or others so mentioning suicide is a tricky thing. :/
@Jeannebunny12 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I know that's called mandate report, but what I'm saying is the therapists I've met don't try to take the time to read or understand that I've been medicated and haven't attempted in years. Meaning if freaking out to give me a lecture on how they will drag me away and put me in a clinic is “professional” then that's why we still attempt. It's a sensitive topic and talking to the very person you need patience and understanding before become the cause of the issue. You feel me???

I don’t really have a lot of information on the topic, but I was introduced to it by a short documentary thing that the KZbinr “MamaMax” had made(he makes videos on creepy games with weird backstory’s, catching pedophiles, etc as his recent content.), the short documentary is called “This Influencer Beats Their Puppy for Tik Tok”. It was really disgusting what they had done. It’s totally fine if you don’t do a video/ podcast episode on this topic since their isn’t more information out about the people posting the videos yet. Just a quick heads up, his video is a bit intense, and his recent videos are dramatized but that part is only for cinematic purposes.

i think its interesting about how she let violet get hurt like that, i wonder if its bc the movie attempted to show like how the manipulated becomes the manipulator, bc theyre so desensitized to that type of behavior and its almost like all they know to do because of the trauma. or i wonder if its just bc she was so scared for her life that in a time of need she didnt care what happens to others-- i wonder if they made her unlovable on purpose bc thats the reality, sometimes you can be a victim of something but still hurt others (this in no way is meant to hurt anyone who is a victim of stalking, victims should not be generalized and stereotyped like it was in this movie, im just speculating! if i am being offensive, please let me know and i will delete the comment or change it to exclude anything offensive)

My brother was involuntarily admitted into a mental hospital after calling the police on himself (he was having thoughts of self-exiting), and NOTHING in this film was AT ALL like how his experience went lol 1.) People are separated by biological sex (which, clarifying, is not the same as gender identity) as a means to avoid SA. Just a precaution. 2.) There is ALWAYS a cop present. Kinda like a school deputy situation 3.) You cannot "accidentally" involuntarily admit yourself, because the consent forms are READ OUT to you, the cop is present, AND it is all recorded. So if you DID accidentally sign a consent form because it was not read out to you, investigators just gotta get the recording to know you really were put in this situation 4.) Rooms have 1 to 2 people in them. They do not just throw you into a room, they first analyze you to assess your threat level. If you are deemed not dangerous to another person, you are roomed with someone (in the case of the mental hospital my brother went to, they roomed patients in with patients suffering similar conditions). If you are deemed potentially dangerous to another person, you are given a private room. In EXTREME circumstances, rooms may have 3 people due to overpopulation; but it is usually temporary as people are often transferred to other mental hospitals to avoid this issue. 5.) Idk if it varies from state to state in the US, but the involuntary hold for my bro's state was 72 hours. During which 3 psychiatrists assess you to determine what all is going on with you. Then, they come together in a conference to discuss the diagnosis, and compare and contrast. Literally like going to a doctor for a second opinion, but you get 3 opinions. There is a lot more I can go into, but Imma just stop it there lol. It is like these film makers did no research. Unless that was the point???

As someone who was sent to an involuntary hold at a psych hospital. I was told to sign a paper to “promise” not to off myself and at the time I said I wouldn’t sign it. Then they just told me to wait there until my therapist came, who didn’t actually come, and the person who told me to wait just told me that they’re gonna put me on hold up to 24 hours…. Um yeah they put me there for 3 days. We weren’t separated by age instead there’s one hall way for boys and the other for girls. we’re all in one section so we’re not really separated. The doors are made out of foam that you can just push open and close. They actually let us have NyQuil or Benadryl to help us sleep. Every morning they check our vitals and temperatures, not bc of covid this was like 3 weeks before it started. But yeah. Its like a really gray area. Anyways it’s “protocol” that they send you to one if you confess that to your therapist. Which honestly made it worse for me to trust therapists and to get help. I guess I’m better now but idk what that really means.

And from my friends I've talked to, this is not uncommon in california.

Coming from simeone who's been in a mental institution. The setup is completely and utterly wrong lmao. I think this idea for the movie was just to make it interesting and it perpetuated a bunch of stereotypes of quote on quote crazy people. It's a little frustrating to see how people on the outside box people in mental institutions in this box of being v*olent. It's weird.

How do you ‘voluntarily’ agree to an ‘IN-voluntary’ hold? How is that voluntary??

#1 advice I took from this to remember is if I'm ever admitted against my will get my 1 phone call & cancel my insurance 😬 I actually made a dr apt to get help crazy migraines I told them I didn't know what was wrong but the daily pain was putting me in dark place an some other personal 💩 trying to be as honest as possible to ya know GET HELP 🙄 they almost did this to me I ran even had cops call my phone I finally found a real dr who actually did their job I had MRI & they found a pea sized spot in my brain (blunt force trauma) causing the migraines so I'm not crazy an it's literally in my head 😅

Yeah, see anyone who knows anyone or had an experience knows not to ever say you’ve had suicidal thoughts, ever. 🤷🏼♀️

This reminded me a little of the movie "10 Days in a Mad House"; about a journalist going undercover as a patient to an asylum, to investigate the abuse happening at it 🙊 It was really good, and it's based of a real story; the journalist name was Nellie Bly 📰🔎

Genders are separated for rooms and showers but the common areas are coed. I was the medication person at one time. And you need a Dr or NP to change med orders. Intake paperwork is very substantial and an aide or counselor has to discuss each page with you and then the patient has to sign after they tell staff what they are signing for. Also, unless you are under a court commitment you can leave against medical advice after you sign the AMA paperwork. I worked in a lockdown residence. There are usually pods of 16 patients and staff to patient ratio is 1:4.

It does actually happen, where people voluntarily sign things to get involuntary held, it happened to me and I’m only 17, I was held for a month.
