Thanks for this, ... and your personal pov. I found her close to 6 years ago. AND I agree that this type of video is much appreciated, they keep providing useful information to keep in synch with her growth. And man has she grown. I wondered, when I started, how far she would go. I could see the pure musical purpose immediately. I'm not going anywhere.

I think this is a perfect representation of Yoyoka now. She has built a following of classic and hard rock followers, but Yoyoka seems to be showing that she is headed towards Jazz and maybe pop. I love seeing her growing into her own style. She has a very solid set of skills that allow her to play any style. The main thing is she is a true professional and knows exactly how to be a part of the band without trying to outshine the others.

I liked your comment about enjoying listening to good playing in the pocket. I once heard this from my old bandleader about the highly competitive nature of Brazilian dance halls: “ People go to the dance hall to drink and dance, so if you play your entire set fast and loud, you won’t get any complaints. But if you enter and exit all your breaks cleanly, and play with dynamics and swing, people will love your band, even if they couldn’t explain in words why that was true. So you are much more likely to be booked by the owner for future gigs”.

YOYOKA was voted one of the Top 500 Drummers Of ALL TIME by DrummerWorld when she was 11 y.o. Youngest ever. Before that, the youngest ever title was Senri's at age 13. YOYOKA has many, "Youngest Ever" titles. She convinced her family to move to the U.S. (now Los Angeles) in Sep 2022, just before she turned 13. Kind of like: Hey mom and dad, how about you both quit your jobs and lets move to Los Angeles so I can play music with lots of different people....lol Actually about how it happened. Obviously, there was much thought and many discussions regarding the move. Very big step that's paying off. You were talking about her representing Japan. Newsweek Japan voted her one of the Top 100 "Most Respected" Japanese in the world at age 11.

@@DrumRoast Of course, thanks! Yeah I kind of use it as well, although there are others that probably should be on it, that aren't. I'm not a musician so I can't judge that kind of thing but maybe Akane and JUNNA, or Haruna? Seems YOYOKA might have a much broader spectrum of talent than some of these wonderful ladies. YOYOKA uses so much finesses and attention to detail, always giving it exactly what the song needs. There is something her fans have coined as "The YOYOKA Effect", where she basically takes great songs and makes them better than the originals. She has been advising local bands since AGE 6 how to "Play songs better"!...lol

I have a handful of favorite vids from her, Ian Paice (deep purple) reacting to her, Robert Plant reacted by saying he’d hire her to tour (at age 8), foo fighters (with commentary from Dave Grohl) on American tv, her onstage with FalloutBoy, w Cyndi Lauper, covering ThePolice, etc. But the prog metal instrumental song she composed called Sparkling is my favorite. Well, first off, I would like to say, welcome to genetics. My mother was Mongolian and Tibetan and my father was British. I look a lot more British than Asian. When you start mixing genes, you can't quite predict the end result. I would say at this stage of the game, so to speak, that Yoyoka is beyond being a child prodigy. She has thousands of stage hours and is as good as any studio drummer in the business, including JR who did the studio version of this tune. The music industry, as we know it, is in total shambles and has been so for years. There isn't anything really worthwhile on the horizon and that is not due to lack of talent. The problem with the music industry and always has been the top of the pyramid. These are, not so much the movers and shakers, but the ones pulling the strings and they do not care. They are not interested in music, but money. All you have to do is look at how many artists they have robbed and stolen from over the years. Never paying them their royalities, giving business contracts to trusting fools who stupidly sign away all their earnings. Music is not so much about music nowadays as it is entertainment. All you have to do is look at a talentless hack like Taylor Swift who the music industry tells us that she is the greatest star or Beyonce is the greatest star, sold the most albums, blah, blah, blah. Then if you start slicing and dicing what the music industry is telling us, like there is no money in selling or making albums, then how is it that they are making all this money off of the Taylor Swifts and Beyonces of the world? They aren't. The money they make off of their entertainers is a small fraction of what they pull in their annual revenue streams. Acording to the music industry, over 81% of their revenue comes off of their catalogues. If this is true, would any intelligent person actually believe how much money they claim Taylor Swift and others bring in every year? If you think back to not so many years ago, the record lables had hundreds of active artists. When they were actually making records, eighty percent of the records they made or released either lost money or made no money. Of the twenty percent which were put out which made money, only a very few made serious money. Now, if they are living off of their catalogues, how are they doing this? The record companies still have thousands of musicians to pool from, both in rock and in country. This is where it is at, rock classics. Are they really rock classics or just oldies? Oldies used to be considered what came from the 1950s with some runover into the early 1960s. Listen to any radio station playing rock classics, what era of rock are you listening to? Across the board, the average classic rock song people listen to is +- 44 years old. Most sane people listening to any rock music from the 1980s you think would consider this music as being oldies. Think about iheart. They own damn near 1000 radio stations in the US and play several billon dollars worth of music every year. Then there is Audacy, they own a couple hundred radio stations and play over a billion dollars worth of music a year and the list goes on. Then think about this, Sony just went to Pink Floyd and paid them over $400m for their music catalog. Now, why would they do that? Spend almost half a billion dollars on what? A band who had only eight songs which charted back in their heyday and only one number one single, 18 gold albums, 14 of which were platinum, and 3 diamonds. That is serious money, very serious money. You are going to be hearing more Pink Floyd on classic rock radio in the next few years as Sony moves to recoop what they just paid out. You think they put out this kind of money if there wasn't a significant roi? You really think a Taylor Swift or Beyonce will have a catalog which can generate this kind of revenue? Most people incorrectly think that the Beatles Catalog, the Elvis Catalog or the Michael Jackson Catalog would have the strongest revenue stream. If I had my choice, I would throw all three of those catalogs in the trash and live off of the Queen Catalog. That is the catalog producing the most revenue. The record companies don't have to do a thing other than cut deals. Once market gets tired of listening to the same old, same old, no problem, they just shuffle their archives and 'rediscover' some lost artist. They have been playing this shell game for years and are going to keep playing it for as long as they can. Once the listening public wakes up and gets tired of listeing to oldies, then they might wake up and listen to the music and give us real music again. But for now, they consider the music in their catalogs gold. The last album of any signifance where money was spent was Chinese Democracy where Guns and Roses spent $13-14m. Good luck trying to get a record label to spend that much money on an album or like the $40m spent on Invincible. They are not going to spend that kind of money when most of the album can be made by using a computer and software. They are operating under the assumption that if people are satisfied listening to electronically generated music and oldies, why change? I don't want to just stand up on a soapbox, but the real focus here is Yoyoka. If she had been through the ropes which we all go through, I would say fine, let her go out into music industry and see what happens. Ropes being defined as finishing school and migrating into the real world. For the most part, she has already been doing that out in the real world. She knows and understands what it is like to make money. She should not have any issues in that area once she finishes school. No question she can make a living in music, but would be making a living be enough for her if that's all that is in it for her? The question is not Yoyoka's talents, but what are you going to do with your talents? If you look at Senri Kawaguchi, who is unuestionably the best female drummer in the world. Look at what she has done since she graduated college. She has plenty of work, but nothing where things are being knocked out of the park by her. As far as I am concerned, Yoyoka is as close in talent to Senri as anyone else could get. If you look at Band-maid, a worldclass band. They are highly underrated, but no one outside of Asia is paying much attention to them. Show-ya came over here when they were at their peak and the music industry here snubbed them. This and a lot of other markers make me concerned about what is in Yoyoka's future, at least in the music industry. As an example, Sony is headquartered in Japan. They have yet to knock on Yoyoka's door and offer her a deal, here or when she lived in Japan. That being said, we all know that when it comes to music, drummers are always the ones who are at the end of the line. Only a handful of drummers have gotten off of the drum throne and made it big. An exception would be Niel Peart. A great drummer who had skills besides drumming. Where would Rush have been without him being a lyricist? Don Henley, Phil Collins, and say Dave Ghrol. There are others like Chris Frantz who walked away from performing with a tidy sum of money. If you listen to any of the big name artists who are out there, they virtually all say that they could not do what they did back in the day if they had to start over. I have been following Yoyoka before anyone who knew who she was. I am really wishing that she can make her hopes and dreams in the music world come true. One thing about Yoyoka is that she loves music, but the music industry is not, in my opinion, in sync with Yoyoka. With Yoyoka, it is concepts, ideas and performance. Think of it this way, if you look at the British bands back in 63 when they started coming over here, if it were not for Brian Epstein, do you think the Beatles would have ever made it out of Liverpool? Bands like Jerry and the Pacemakers, Dave Clark Five were a lot more talented than the Beatles were, but they didn't have the management horsepower Epstein had. The closest she has gotten to a brass ring is with her Utopia song. That one song is her best to date. That song could easily go into the top 40 and get plenty of air play. I will say this about Yoyoka. She is as good as any professional in the business. She is not just a drummer, she is a musician. She could play with any band. She needs to develop a professional identity. Then where does it go from there? She needs to be with a bassist like Fajar Adi Nugroho. Even though they have never met, if you watch him play, he and Yoyoka would build off of each other. She needs to be with a real guitarist like Evlee. Evlee understands pentonics and could bring a similar impact to playing guitar like Eddie Van Halen did. Male vocals Yuichi Ikuzawa, female vocals, Adeline Teolis. Keys, I would say Henri Herbert. Not my first choice, but I think he would be someone who would really fit with Yoyoka. Anyway, she is still young, but what happens over the next six years, which are going to go by faster than her previous six years are going to be crucial to her future and her adulthood. At her 15th birthday, I told both her parents that she needs a manager/management agency who has a strong SEO background. It isn't her effort as her heart is clearly in her work. When she and her family left Japan, for round numbers, her youtube, not views, but followers was around 185K. Couple years later, she just hit 250k. To get real recognition, she is either going to have to exert her talents like Jeff Procaro or Neil Peart did. Or be in an epic band which has some charting hits. This is where a manager, moreso than a management ageny would come in. She is past being a child prodigy. The big question is how is the child prodigy going to transition into an adult with her talent?

@@Rob-Yule Your assunption is correct. I flew in from the east coast and went straith to the Bourbon Room. Kind of, I had to step over a few derelicts layng on the sidewalk near where I parked. When I went in I talked with Rei for about 20 minutes and got one of Yoyok's tee shirts. I was sitting to the right when you went into the stage area. The tables were all sold out and I was sitting to the rright of the stage, facing the stage. I was sitting by the guy they lived with in Utah when they first came over here. After the performance, I talked with Shido for about 20 minutes, mainly about basketball. Then I saw Rei again and she wanted me to get a pictre with Yoyoka. Then I talked with Rei and Akifumi for about 20 miniutes and headed to my hotel and left for LAX at 3am. Anyway, one of the things I guess you couls say I disagree with is the lack or organizational or business skills on their end. I like the Somas, but they need to treat Yoyoka as a brand and not a talent at this stage of her musical evolution. They shoud have had sign in sheets to share with the members of her fanbase. Just like when she goes live, it is always the same group of people or names you see in the chatbox. Really, the only people who were there were what I would call her superfans. I am not going to get into what we talked about publically, but would be glad to share it with you over a phone call or email. I will put it to you this way, I am the type of person who puts my money along with what my mouth says. I told Rei and Akifumi I would help them get Yoyoka the business talent she needs to move forward in the music industry, I went and got Yoyoka hooked up with the largest record agency on the west coast. My emails to rei are going straight to her spam box. You want to help out with this, I will put you in the loop with the agent. I am on the east coast, as I said and I have my own gig to run. I am not sure how to contact directly off of youtube, but I know this, if you go to my youtube channel, and go to email for business opportuitues you can contact me that way. If that doesn't work, ping me back and we will find another way
