They'd probably do a forensic evaluation and check for any physical injuries. Polygraphs aren't admissible in court in quite a lot of states since they can't 100% prove if somebody's commited a crime. That being said, most people that do something illegal are more prone to failing the test, which means they can be used to help backup an accusation made against somebody. Dave actually came out in one of the episodes where somebody's polygraph results were really odd and said that the results for it should take other factors into consideration. I'm still heavily against the idea of polygraphs being admissible in any state's courts but they're definitely a good bulls*it detector to see if something is off about the person's honesty. In the case of The Steve Wilkos Show, they're probably okay to trust since Steve has a polygraph expert and most people are definitely not going to put such personal problems up for everybody to see and stupid people that do stupid things are certainly more prone to digging their own grave deeper by letting the world know that they're a potential criminal.
