We bought a home with the kitchen having dark walnut cabinets. Decided to paint them white. The patio roof made the room dark. Did’nt know we had to SAND them first, primed and painted and after months of work, the paint was chipping away. The boys belt buckles would rub off the paint at their waist level. Never ever would I go through that again. Your choice as to colors you want and down the road if you want to change colors, you can. Remember though, marriage takes compromising….❤

I wouldn't go as dark as the coffee cabinet. As wood ages it will darken up alot. I would paint the coffee cabinet the black color, it would look nice next to the white wall. Love the inside, you just need a Highland Cow picture on the wall. Enjoyed the video. ❤️🫶❤️ NC 🇺🇸

Love the kitchen colors but have to agree everybody else in the bathroom… too dark. You might get by with an accent wall but I wouldn’t do it all that dark. Just my opinion. You guys do what you want. It will be beautiful either way because it is yours! ♥️

The white walls with darker wood will make the kitchen look brighter. The paint needs to be to be two coats even with primer.

Bro it’s time to run outside! My wife re-did our kitchen. She painted cabinets, ceiling and put up wallpaper! I built a window table while she worked on the kitchen. Basically I agreed with her ideas and got out of the way! 😜😜😜

For those mentioning that they are unsure about picking colors, find a picture or art piece that you like and pull your colors from that. (The artist made them work already!) When we had our bookstore and sold art, too, we had customers who relied on that plan.

Much agreed. Plus, staining hickory a dark color seems like sin!! 😂 Just kidding. Look into something called Shou Shugi Ban. It's a charing with fire, then sanding or brushing with a wire brush. Then stain and finish or just finish. It's beautiful. If you like looking up stuff like this, try cerusing the wood.

They have apps and some stores have an ability to put a color in your spot where you want it, so you can see what it would look like before you paint it. You guys should look into that. Because of your metal and everything you need to see what would reflect how it’s gonna reflect and what it’s gonna look like.

Hello everyone, I hope you all are having a blessed day. Chad if those cabinets are Hickory I beg you please don't stain them darker. They are absolutely gorgeous cabinets! Please don't change them. Those are the cabinets of my dreams and I love when you show them in your videos. It is just my 2 cents. I know it is your house and I will respect your decisions.

My kitchen gets hardly any natural light. When we moved in here in 1980 the cabinets were very dark, almost black, made from the same wood as the huge living areas' paneling. Both rooms were dark; but kitchen was like a closet with no light! It took 10 years, but I did get new cabinets (after the door on one fell and hit hubby in the head). I have tried painting the walls lighter, but hubby hates it and when I was gone for a week he repaints them a darker shade. Now my eye sight is better and his is worse (we are 80) he can't see and I use a headlamp. LOL Rae you paint it, you pick the color! I do love that pale pink fridge!😅 Go Tippsey!

Chad, I'm pretty sure Rae will make the bathroom goregous with all kinds of light. When we first moved into our farmhouse, my husband always told me.... you decorate the inside of the house (and I'll support your choices). Whereas, my husband would do the stuff outside. Just remember....you both love each other. ❤

when going to the paint store, take a front door off the new cabinet and a kitchen cabinet door with you, if someone with stain knowledge , this may be a big help, the stain on new cabinet looks raw and the kitchen looks varnish , so you my have to strip the kitchen cabinets. As for the bathroom , too dark, a lighter grey would be nice. Love the looks and colors, great home.

It looks like the coffee bar will slide in under the breakfast bar. Try living with it a few hours to get a feel for the dark gray with the darker wood. I agree with someone before me saying about reflection from ceiling making it possibly way too dark in the kitchen. I love the channels, God bless you all.

Rae good luck! I have been an Interior Decorator self employed for almost 50 years. Its always more fun when you throw our all the lookie loues and have some fum. My best recomendation is to stand in each corner of the room and look at it and see what needs to be done. Then go to another corner and look at the room from there and see what it needs from that corner. And so on and so forth. You will create a beautiful home one corner at a time. 😉❤️

Yes, cabinets in the kitchen would look great in darker color! But you live there so choose what speaks to you all! Look online at cabinet colors! Most everything will go with your wall color though. Love the dark grey on the island!

I love the colors Rae has chosen so far. It's your house. Personalize it. Personally I love darker cabinets. The color in the bathroom is pretty too. My cousin has that color but uses lighting and mirrors to brighten it up plus pictures and other accents. I'm sure Rae will make it beautiful

I love the colors for the kitchen. I agree the cabinets would look great with a darker gel stain. A gel stain would also allow the wood grain to show through, which I think is what you're wanting. It's looking great, and Rae did an awesome job painting.

The dark looks great in the kitchen !!! The bathroom definitely not that dark or the walls dark. The kitchen walls look great the light color. The green is pretty but the white cotton color will look great. Rae, you are doing an awesome job! The darker gray on the island is perfect as is the lighter color on the walls. The theme of the house is the lighter wood so I am not sure you want to darken the cabinet stain. Darker cabinets may clash against the lighter wood used throughout the house…make them look like an afterthought instead of cohesive to the rest of the wood. The coffee color stain on the coffee bar currently makes a statement “Coffee is here!” I love it. I would refrain from using a super dark color in the bathroom. It will absorb the light and negatively affect your color blending while applying your makeup. My friend had dark cranberry in her bath and master closet and had to change it shortly after moving in because it was impossible to see the true colors in clothes and makeup in the dark room no matter how many nice lights she added. Just my opinion. I love you kids and love your new home! I love the boys and all the fur and feathered friends on the beautiful 40 acres. You are blessed and we are blessed to know you via KZbin! I like the dark on the island and agree the cabinets should be darker but not as dark of the island. Love the idea the cabinets be the color of the coffee bar. Not sure about the white once the cabinets are darker. Paint on! Also, the bathroom , you should consider how much light comes into the bathroom. The iron ore color may be too dark but it depends on the amount of light coming in. Good thing about paint, if you don’t like it you can repaint! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

She has a point about the matching the fridge part… my colors are blues, yellows and light oranges, my place especially the kitchen and living room is very dark, so I need lighter colors…oh that White Cotton is very pretty…but I’m thinking your right about the kitchen cabinets being alittle darker…but your floor should decide the cabinet color…just a tad darker…
