In today’s video, we featured Julie and her custom ram pro master camper van conversion. This is a very unique floorplan built specifically for a solo traveler. Van was first built by a pro builder for her and she used it for sure. Her time and decided that she would like the floor plan changed around, so she met with Mike at JM custom coach builders, and he completely rearranged her floor plan to suit her needs and included a very large shower.

This would be my dream home….too old now, (81) for the traveling part, because of health issues but would be SO nice just to plain live in. I would need space for computer, and a small tv.otherwise….perfect! By the way, before I became a widow, my hubs and I traveled the lower 48, Canada, and a part of Mexico. Had a blast!

I had agoraphobia too, which lasted for 7 years. Since then I have earned a master's degree, I sing in front of hundreds of people, have my screen actor's guild card (SAG), did a trip around the country in my own RV with my daughter, traveled to Africa (twice) along with many other countries and now have started traveling abroad by myself. Also, this van is perfect for me. If I built one this would be my model. Good job Julie and Mike!!

I like the changes that she made. On a hot day a shower before bed is a good thing. In my opinion beds take up too much space, so the builder came up with a smart solution. Nice van build. I hope she finds happiness in her new life.

Good for her that she was able to change her life in such a drastic way, find freedom and enjoy traveling and nature! The van certainly seems to have everything she needs and that is what matters. Is great that she found a builder willing to fulfill her wishes. I think it was also helpful that she had experience with the previous version. That is why when you want to convert a van you should take it out a few times with only removable items or use cardboard boxes to simulate a layout so you can get a feeling for it, before you decide.

Nice to see a comfortable but common sense approach to the bed, especially for a single traveler. So many of these van conversions make the bed the main feature, gobbling up so much space. I would think that gets boring quick. This is flexible, functional and comfortable. People really need to understanding camping minimalism before doing their van builds.

If it’s California, any human waste (including urine) is considered black water and water from sink, shower and laundry is considered gray water. So it may depend state by state where you live and the campgrounds you stay at. In most of America it’s a single dump station even if the tanks are separated into grey and black.

This is one of the best layouts I've seen, Mike and Julie did a great job. We rented a Promaster campervan conversion in May to drive from Vermont to Salida, CO and back. What Julie said about the comfort of the seat is absolutely true for me, back to back 11-12 hour driving days without aches and pains the next day.

Love this van. Honestly until she mentioned it it never dawned on me how rarely you see a solution for trash in someones van tour. Also liking the clear glass for the showers. That would open up a van visually so much more even if you had a more normal tiny corner shower in a van. Loving the idea of the murphy/fold out bed. Down low like that even less visual clutter again. Put it all down out of the eyeline. So many clever and actually original ideas in this build. As I said I love it.

I've watched this video a couple times and the 'physical' item that stands out for me is the Murphy Cot and Julie's commentary around why a cot sized bed vs a full/queen sized bed. I had zeroed in on a full size b/c I would want a large bed (and I'm 6'1")...but...this is van life. Go with what you need and make changes in the future if you like...which is also what Julie did here when she wanted to update her original build. Bigger Picture: I think there is a lot to be learned here in this video. Sometimes what we thought we wanted, isn't. Listen to your inner voice and make changes. Explore and Travel. You can overcome your fears. Just Get Out There And Do It. Going from agoraphobia to van life traveling? Wow. What can you say except - what an amazing come-back story. Forget 'come-back players of the year' in various sports. This woman is re-born into the universe. May others with challenges (similar to Julie's or other challenges) see this video and be inspired to take the leap of faith in whatever they are thinking of doing.

It helps to live in reality in my head when drawing out my own blueprints. The van looks great! The shower idea is one I had in my head for myself with the seat because I am disabled for the time being. The whole idea of customizing a van is to suit the individual's needs. They should all be built that way, that is how the builder faces challenges & comes up with solutions and is then able to show off his skills.

Beautiful van, but is she dumping the grey water on the ground after diverting urine into it? I thought that is what she said. I think if we all are going to make “van dwelling” sustainable we need to follow leave no trace methods. If you are diverting urine into a grey tank doesn’t it become a black tank?

It may be a good idea to empty that septic-tank where boats empty their own...at least here in Finland you could drive near enough and it doesn't cost a lot. At least you could do so a decade ago when we still had a boat. You adapt to smaller space so fast and we don't need so much space or things to live happily. Of course we can't live boat life here on winter time but on summer time it was lovely. Maybe my (of emptying tank)idea doesn't work in every country. It may differ so much. It was just an idea. But I have to say that system for the laundry was so brilliant.. dry it in or out. I have never seen similar. So you are obviously clever and have another easy and cheap way to handle your tank ecofriendly. Have a nice vantour, you deserve it. 😊

Fantastic van build. Some very minor tweaks she could easily still do & cheap. I would raise the microwave on an open cabinet shelf so that it is flush to the bottom of the upper cabinet & drop the basket to the counter under it on the back wall - you gain ~10" counter space for food prep or projects... and can post notes or add small hooks to the 2 sides of the cabinet to hang kitchen/hand towels or whatever. Use non-skid line underneath, as well as a thin padded crossbar/rod she could drop into a cpl of side hooks to hold it in place while driving but could be stowed easily under the sink when stationary - even a swing arm that attached to one side but latches closed when not using. Also, I'd add a shower hose & add a clip to the door to hang out from and some shower curtain attachments so I could enjoy an outdoor shower in a sunny isolated space - attach a removable teak board mat to the lower part of the door for standing on (no dealing with gray water or water for mildew), cutting some chores. On the commode, can you use a bag lined paint bucket with kitty litter under the seat - topping off after use as needed - as this could simply be tossed in the trash with the bag & no smells to deal with in the van - cover w a lid after or just twist the bag & fold down between uses & clip shut; is it allowed? I'm so glad she turned lemon into glorious, sweet lemonade after the divorce. It must've been a very disruptive & destructive time in her life. She's got her upgrade now & lost a huge weight of her shoulders. She seems like a super nice person & deserving of a good, happy life out in the world. Great job! Godspeed. 🙏😊💖

Julie is a cutie. This is a really awesome build, kind of a trendy studio apartment on wheels. This is perfect for a solo van life person who doesn't want a mini build. But the bed looks too small for taller folks, not an issue for Julie. It's a really cool bed design, though.

I love the van! I'm 4'11" now. Used to be a hefty 5 feet lol. I love the ideas that allow you to access everything high up. The shower area is perfect. It really doesn't take up a lot of space because it's all usable when you're not showering. The bed is a perfect idea. You don't need it out all the time. Too bad you didn't take out your cooktop. The best part is the shower, I went through agoraphobia for a while, with the wonderful panic, and after 7 docs, I found one who figured out it was my thyroid, my numbers were good but it was the restless leg that was causing the thyroid to not work, most people do not realize the thyroid runs your whole system, including the contact to receptors in our brains, I was put on lowest dose of thyroid and have never had a problem since, I did have to go to sleep clinic to find it, but I'm so grateful to this doctor. I feel like he saved my life. My youngest son has issues as well, and I think my mom did but it was never found, her life was tragically sad. I love your Van and sending positive vibes for you on your Journey. Beautifully constructed Van.

I'm SO with you, Julie, and Van builder - the bed taking up almost the whole van space is def. a "no go" for me, as well - if I had a camper van. Interestingly, I just saw another KZbin video, where a group of women, had a camper van gathering - all women participatants. . NONE of the women had a bed arrangement where the bed took up a lot of space in their vans. I also could not go without a shower and a place to put my dirty clothes. The little washer used for smaller items of clothing is very smart. I LOVE the shower - that rubber "lip" is - superlative! Awesome build, I think living in a van first gives you the idea of what you need and what you don't, what works and what doesn't, I like how the bed folds up and the shower and toilet, especially the urine diverted into the gray tank. Be careful with dumping the gray tank anywhere it's illegal in some states, national/state parks, and if you are dumping it someplace other than sewer you need to use biodegradable soaps so it doesn't hurt the environment.

Julie... What a cool tour... of your cool van. So compact and so cozy at the same time... all of which is suited to YOU. At 5'-10" I am not as agile as you... but I did try to road camp overnight in my 2023 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback. Needless to say, it was one uncomfortable night trying to sleep... with the minimal stuff that I took along. Trying to keep my road tripper rig small and thrifty was not the right answer for a guy my size. After enjoying your detailed tour of your van... it is making me rethink things all over again. Here's thanking you... and wishing you the best on your new adventures! 😉👍

OMGods this HAS to be the best van build I have seen! The amount of storage and use for this! She isn't claustrophobic and the bed and wow I am not kidding I may need this guy to help me as well! I am also 5ft tall! I will follow her adventures. Her story touched me seems she had to get away from the relationship to BREATH and find herself!

I would add a little flip up ledge on the edge of the sink cabinet above the toilet to give you a little more bench space or have a lagoon table to setup on the passenger chair when sitting in it :)
