Thank you for the video! They must move the bodies into new coffins from time to time. The first three glass-top coffins are fastened with Phillips head (crosshead) screws which weren't invented until 1932. Also, the row of coffins that include Isabela the screws seem to go through the clear portion which suggests it's an acrylic sheet, which was introduced in 1936. That would be an interesting process to see.

It might not be new coffins. Its more likely they remove the top for maintenance from time to time. I wouldn't doubt they added the acrylic sheet later, but it doesn't mean the coffin was replaced. As for the screws, it wouldn't be a big issue to replace the older screws with newer ones later on as they probably open the top from time to time to do some cleaning of the interior. You really don't want to move these coffins or disturb it at all. The bodies are fragile.

We went to a museum exhibit of mummies from the 1700s. It was really fascinating, they still had hair, nails, etc. They were also “accidentally” preserved by dry cool air and many had died of tuberculosis.

I feel that the poor monks are not really resting in peace nor the other people. Their mortal remains are laid bare under harsh lighting for all the world to see. Seems a little undignified. Great video though.

My guess is that being under a vow of poverty, they probably gave away all the money/goods. It's the Capuchin way. I had a dear Capuchin friend (sadly now deceased) who, in keeping with his vows, gave away everything that was given to him. (Well, he did eat some pickles I made for him, but he shared the rest of the jar with his brothers at the monastery.)

The Capuchin monastery in Rome is also worth a visit. The bones of the dead monks are arranged in some really fancy patterns on the wall plus there are mumified remains to be seen. The phrase "As you are we once were, as we are you will be," did make me stop and think about mortality.

I just watched this video. I find this type of stuff interesting. I did notice, at 4:19 that it looked as though one of those mummies opened its eyes. It was so weird, I watched it about 5 times just to make sure. He closes them again at 4:22. Did anyone else notice this? Have a look and see what you think. It could be just reflection, or the shadows on the glass, but it freaked me out!!. See what you make of it. xx

On the Greek island of Kephalonia in the middle of the island is a small church and monastery of The Sacred Monastery of Agios Gerasimos of Kefalonia the saint is contained in a glass coffin which is opened once a year for the people who travel to see him touch and kiss his foot. Its a 16th-century church complex with a courtyard, gardens, monastery & tomb of the patron saint. You can go down a metal ladder into the small cave where he lived as a hermit beneath the church when the pilgrims come to see and worship him, I was lucky in my last visit to actually visit it when this was all going on and saw the mummified remains of the saint and went down to see the cave he lived in.

all very suggestive but I don't understand the purpose of showing these "mummified" bodies. I don't call them mummified but simply dried up because they have not undergone a real embalming process.
