It's possible rings are like the relics from three houses, where each character has a specific one they can equip, but pepsi protag can equip any of them. Also, Robin is absent from the wheel, and I think it would be a fun twist if he/she were the ring the evil purple man is equipping, given that in their original game they were [SPOILERS REDACTED].

One thing to note is that in addition to Ike and Lucina being based on variants in Heroes (variants rooted in Ike's axe proficiency and Lucina's Archer class option), Female Corrin isn't depicted holding a sword. She appears to hold a blue gem with her right hand in front of her chest. It would imply she will use a Dragonstone, rather than a Sword, to further broaden the weapon representation. That would make 6 sword users (Marth, Leif, Roy, Lyn, Eirika, Byleth), a Lance user (Sigurd), an Axe user (Ike), a Bow user (Lucina), a Light/White Magic user (Micaiah), Black/Anima Magic user (Celica), and a Stone user (Female Corrin).

If there are additional summons, perhaps Female Byleth could serve as a Brawler? It'd be amusing, given Three Houses' insistence that women can't fight with their fists, only being allowed War Cleric in the DLC (Three Hopes' managing to be worse by making skills come from classes, meaning they can't even boost their Brawling skill, save for perhaps Shez carrying hers over from NG+).

I think that sucks since we only get 2 tome users. If they get 2 weapons then that means Micaiah is the only one that can get Staff. Lyn, Leif and Lucina are the ones that get bow. I think heroes like Marth which are stuck with 1 Weapon probably give better stat boosts.

As someone who got into Fire Emblem because of TMS, I couldn't be happier. Marth sort of appeared in that game, but we could never actually use him. Glad to see that this game takes that concept and lets us use him alongside the MC.

I still remember that boss fight was one of the hardest in the game with the 2 tanks jumping in front of your attacks and blocking everything, the mage who had area attacks and healed everyone by 9999999 hp, and the archer who 1-2 shot anyone he attacked. Heck I was starting to feel like I was the boss and I was fighting the main characters with that human rpg tactics setup. Lol It was the only fight in the entire game that I got a game over in. Well at least on hard. I never went back and played the new game+ on lunatic difficulty and saw any secret bosses the game probably has.

Lucina also has technically more experience battling Fell Dragons than Chrom, if they're going for that angle. If they were looking for heroes to specifically battle a creature with that title, while Chrom technically is one of the options to land the final blow, Lucina has years more of experience combatting Fell Dragons due to her upbringing and the future past stuff. Also the jump spin Alear does in the cutscene is also very reminiscent of her cutting down the Risen in her own cutscene, and the Corrupted look very very similar in that regard, so her additional experience in fighting them might technically make her a better choice than Chrom, narrative-wise, if they wanted to justify/explain the reason she's there more than him, as well as the male/female number split. (Love them both, that's just what came to mind when I saw her with the trailer. XD)

lyn chosen to be representative of FE7 and their labeling of the actual trailer video as FE7 makes me wonder if we will get an actual lore reveal to what happened to Lyn during FE6. Obviously she wasnt created yet when FE6 came out, but they are connected to each other so i think IS will be planning something dark for lyn since at this point she is long dead. Most likely we will be given a revelation to what happened to her through the bonding process we have been shown.

After Sigurd and Celica fuse , They have turn counts meaning their fusion lasts a few turns , Micaiah at one point has a 2 while the others had 3 which is how I got to the conclusion that it's turn count.

Sigurd is shown has having a lance when he's "equipped" to Alfred, but in one of the attack animations he has his Tyrfing sword. So maybe these Emblems can have different weapon types depending on circumstances. Maybe it's based on the bond level? Or maybe they give a weapon that matches the character who equips the ring but individually attack with their personal weapon?

I don't think I've seen anyone mention it yet: During the section around 13:20 about Alear and Marth. The combat break down shows Alear attacking 3x; 13 6 13. It is possible that Marth's Break ability allows this extra hit which appears to be damage/2 rounded down. Break as in, to be left wide open. A second point that I haven't seen touched on is that Transformations are turn limited. We can see this in your video about 17:55 where there is the big ol 3 above Sigurd's portrait. The same is seen above Celica's in the next bit. Other than those pretty minor details I think you hit the nail on the head with this breakdown. Cheers!

There's a couple of aspects of this game that some may not know that are important when talking about the Emblems and art style of this game. To start off, no, the Emblems are not pandering because this game was meant to come out earlier during FE's actual anniversary year. According to the same person that leaked details of the game, it's been done since mid 2021. As for why they didn't release it was not specified. Though, if you were asking me, it could have been due to Nintendo having several high-profile games lined up for the second half of 2021 and especially for 2022, I can see that being the reason. They may have been having trouble finding a good place to release it without it overlapping other releases that may either be their own or other 3rd party games. And as for the different art style, that's simple. Much like FE Three Houses, this game was also a partner venture with Tecmo, but not only them, with Gust as well. And for those unfamiliar with Gust, they're the ones who made the recent Ryza trilogy, and if you watched the Direct yesterday, they promoted the 3rd game. Gust is handling the art for the game.

I am assuming it functions similar to 3H's break mechanic, in which the enemy becomes stunned and unable to move for a turn. However, unlike 3H's enemy (applying only to monster/automaton units), generic grunts can now be 'broken'. Perhaps the same 'break' effect can also be applied to player units as well.

This is exactly how I feel. The visuals are beautiful, but the protagonist design looks like a generic v-tuber with clashing design choices. Also, the story we know of so far seems to be a tad bland, and I'm afraid the reliance on veteran lords will take away focus from the new characters. I'm still excited for the game simply because of the gameplay looking very fun, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have concerns.

Some things I caught and speculation I have on them: The Break mechanic doesn't appear to be tied to the Break Defenses/Break X skills. Alfred + Sigurd managed to break the Myrmidon but Sigurd, even at Bond 10, doesn't have a Break skill, and Louis managed to break the Pegasus Knight without even having a Ring equipped/engaged. Instead, I believe that Breaks are tied to Weapon Triangle Advantage, attacking with it will cause the opponent to be Broken and force them to drop their weapon til the start of their phase (and I say phase instead of just the combat because there's a blink-and-you-miss-it crossout of the Axe Bandit's axe symbol at 12:35. Serenes Forest has a better look at this here serenesforest.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/008-emblem-ring2.jpg) This is probably what the leaks meant by "WTA will be more important/emphasized this time around". To add to this, the only time Breaks do not happen during the trailer is when they are attacking a foe they do not have Weapon Triangle Advantage on (Alear vs. the Lance Knight, Vander vs. the Axe Thief, Chloe vs. the Axe Thief, Celine vs. Axe Soldier). The only discrepancy to this theory is Alear vs. the Axe Cav, but he already does not attack, possibly because of Divine Speed kicking in, or some other means to prevent counterattacks. Brawling has a unique color for its symbol, yellow. If Red for Swords, Blue for Lances, and Green for Axes retains consistent, and Tome and Bows are colorless to show they are off the weapon triangle entirely, then why does Brawling have a unique look? Will Dragonstones have a unique look? Movement is down across the board. Infantry units have 4 move while Calvary have 5. SP is likely to be tied to skill and stat gaining. If there is no class swapping at all, then there has to be an alternate system of gaining skills beyond the Rings. Furthermore, you can probably use it to increase the number of skills a unit can carry, else 3 slots with 1 being taken by a unit's personal is...limiting... Characters are moved not by the classic pointer/arrow controls, but instead manually moved into position, similar to the strange super zoomed-in mode from Three Houses, or more accurately Shining Force (or Feda: the Emblem of Justice if you REALLY want to get obscure). Hopefully there's a sprint button... Ratings are not new, they are the stat total of a character. They showed up in the 3DS games if you turned on the Simplified UI. Classes actually look to be...gone? Otherwise, there's no reason why Alfred and Celine share the Noble class but have wildly different weapon types. Furthermore, there's some additional types beyond movement, such as Backup for the Corrupted Soldiers or Celine's Mystical Type. Furthermore, the Pegasus Knights in the game all show up with different weapons, having swords, lances, and axes (perhaps the last one is a mistake in the trailer, meant to be wyvern knights?) I believe that characters may either be able to equip all kinds of weapons like in Three Houses but can only increase their skill rank in 1, or a character's weapon types is completely dependent on the individual, like in Heroes. Neither side makes too much sense based on the information we received (would be very weird if Alear cannot use Dragonstones at all despite being a Divine Dragon), but I will side to the latter on this. Alternatively... Rings might give their wearers additional weapon types to equip. We see Framme's brother have a Staff symbol at 14:12, despite it not looking like he promoted. What changed is that he has Micaiah's Ring equipped. Micaiah perhaps grants staves/white magic to use just by being equipped. It could also be that he just didn't have a staff on him in the early stages, but it would be kind of silly to deny him a staff while his sister is prominently shown to have one. You might also have to fully engage with the Ring to gain access to other weapons, as Celine doesn't gain access to staves nor have the staff symbol until she merges with Celica (side note: weird that her weapons are tome and staves...). Despite the art, Emblems individually attack with their preferred weapons. Marth dual-strikes with Falchion and Sigurd with Tyrfing. It seems that the art shows what weapon types they will give and not what they themselves use. So it is likely Lucina will attack with Falchion and Ike with Ragnell, at least on occasion. Other discrepancies include Marth using his classic attire in the mural but in his modern look, Micaiah using a fire spell and not light, Sigurd with a lance, Celica has Beloved Zofia, Corrin has a Dragonstone over Yato (this might actually be another Heroes reference, as female Corrin never had a version that has Yato and her default form is a Blue Stone user), and Lyn having Mani Katti (in its classic design!) but not Sol Katti. Eirika probably is in over Ephraim so that there is a balanced roster between 6 male and 6 female representatives. Speculation, but if each lord is meant to have two different weapon types, then Byleth might pass down a Type Bonus/alt. weapon for Brawling. Not only is his promoted class Enlightened One good at it, but there would be no other lord who would reasonably pass it down. The last skill of a Ring's list is probably their ultimate move that you can only get both with Engaging and a Type Bonus. Warp Ragnarok has a fire symbol on Celica's lists of skills. Lodestar Rush might be Marth's signature multi-stab animation he has since his Fates' Amiibo Battle, probably looking like it does in Heroes. Interesting enough, Alfred doesn't gain a Type Bonus with Sigurd's Override for some reason. Perceptive might actually be a renamed Nihil, having the same eye symbol as it usually does. Probably fitting for Marth, since his games have no skills!

The mini map and the buildings look so much more like it (overall round layout with only one large tower next to smaller buildings). The kids with the red and green outfits are like the Christmas cavs. They could also be references to Micaiah and Sothe too. But I think this duo is a pair of mages/healers rather than sword/lance cavs. The fact that they are accompanied by a Jaigan is really a call back to the older games.

Personally I think everyone is drawing too many conclusions, it’s the VERY FIRST TRAILER and yet for some reason a lot of people (here on KZbin and on Reddit) I’ve seen the majority of comments be dismissive and overall pessimistic towards this game of whichever have seen one less than 4 minute trailer of, that releases in 4 to 5 months. Which mind you is the same general span of time we had before being able to play FEW 3Hopes a spin-off game who’s general consensus is considered to be a alright game. Now I’m not trying to say I believe that FE Engage will be the magnum opus, the holy grail of tactical RPG games of all time and space, I simply believe we all need to chill out with our judgments at this time. I also don’t know if this is about the same way people were reacting to 3Houses as I was late to the hype train but for now other than content creators that are taking an analytical approach to this I’ve seen plenty of thoughts like; this reminds them of FEHeroes (and seeing that as a horrible thing) or just because it’s an in-universe crossover it’s not a mainline game or something. I think a majority of people are being too critical and that’s just not fair to anybody. I want to believe that there might be more than just the heroes we saw on that mural like there are bound to be over 15 playable units, I could be wrong but I feel like they are doing what they did with 3Hopes they are going to show us so much more in the next 2 months and onwards. Also no one has mentioned that Alfred is going through TWO units when he had override, I feel like I’m going crazy because not a single person has mentioned it.

This is actually a normal reaction for this fandom, sadly. When Fates Trailer came out, everyone hated it. When Three Houses Trailer came out, they hated that as well. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most people will come around eventually if the game turns out good.

I really hope that aside from the 12 main rings, there's a few more scattered around that, although not relevant to the main plot, would be nice to see, maybe a Hector ring on some side quest or paralogue. Also, it would actually be really cool that the villains have access to the heroes rather than the villains as well, like, it would be rather predictable if the main villain has a Gharnef ring, but what if they had someone like Xander, or Edelgard on their side as well? Maybe even Ephraim just to spice up the situation.

that's definitely not the origin of canto. Canto comes from path of radiance, where it was the name of the heron's ability to sing and grant an extra turn (makes sense for that purpose.) the name was then nonsensically carried over as-is to radiant dawn where it's the name of the ability we all know and love. its japanese name has always been simply "move/act again," they just chose to reuse the PoR name for no apparent reason going forward. this is actually a really clever rename to make it familiar and yet totally sensical at the same time

So the one where they show off the weapon triangle and the Marth one are the same map as the have the same features and layout (or it could be the same map but a different chapter). That map but both have a blue circle in the map (upper right hand corner weapon triangle) and just above the ruffian. One I noted was how damage was predicted so when its forecasted as 10 10 you and 10 enemy its (assuming you are the attacker) you then enemy than you again but the 6x2 (as shown in the battle with Framme and the Elusian soldier) you hit 2 times before the enemy and with some time you hitting up to 3 separate times maybe you could hit up to six times per a battle.

Not sure if it was already said but I am pretty sure that "lance like" weapon you couldn't identify is an arrow of agnea. The magical lance equivalent of levin sword/bolt axe. Aside from the sprite image, when you see that character attack with it in his attack that places him past the enemy, the animation has it shooting what looks like a lazer/lightning. 🙂 Anybody else speculate this?

The characters shown are the mural include six men and six women. It's likely they were chosen for the gender balance. And it doesn't mean they'll be the only ones, and Eliwood might not be shafted after all.

@@ZaxFSO8083 the one I thought of was to finally confirm the games are in the same universe and have the cast be made up of direct descendants of classic characters, then there would be some kind of magic that let them use the powers of their ancestors. Not sure how well that would work with fates and three houses being so wildly different from the rest of the series with the lore, but hey it’s just one idea

I too loved the character customization of awakening and fates. I'm sure one of the things that made awakening so popular had to be the character build variety. 3 houses had an interesting way to build units too, ultimately i found the professor lecture system to be cool, but very tedious compared to awakening approach and i really wish 3 houses had more class options and less gender limitations.

So yeah I picked up something not discussed at 9:43. The leaks seemed to mention that the weapons triangle would be more punishing/rewarding, however the thief with the hammer has a 0 in all three combat categories and a Slim Lance is reaching 42 dmg, 100 hit, and 21 crit. Seems like either this thief is really bad (the 31 hp would be weird tho), Chloe is cracked, the hammer isn't actually equipped but is displaying because of no other weapon available, weapon triangle does not exist or is reversed somehow, or there is a very op special skill going on. Also interesting that combat doesn't display level, I feel like other entries did this but cannot remember specifically. edit: I noticed scrolling through the comment section, that someone pointed out that chloe's pegasus has a horn, so she could be a falcon knight, but that seems to aid the idea that this is a combat art of some kind as it would be very coincidental for a falcon knight be unable to double a hammer holding thief with a slim lance.

Tbh, I'm not too excited from the first trailer so far. Considering how much the Three House trailers immediately went into the Continent the game takes place in, as well as the themes and tone of the storyline right away, I feel like this current approach with a emphasis of this whole bringing back past characters gimmick might take away from the quality of the actual new characters and story of Engage. I sure hope I'm proven wrong, but knowing how these celebratory/nostalgic bait games work, i won't get my hope's up, especially when the avatar this time looks more like an j-pop idol modeled after a tide pod than well, a fighter.

Well, the main character is a divine dragon, right? Though it seems they may not have dragonstone abilities since most manaketes and other simular characters tend to have those elf-like ears. Though since Corrin is depicted in her emblem with hers it seems likely there is going to be a dragon unit. Espally if everyone is going to be weapon/class locked.

looks like there is no weapon triangle. The Pegasus knight was using a lance against an axe which if memory serves it went lance beat sword which beat axe which beat lance. Also given the staffs it is something I believe that fram will be a war cleric which given faith took over staffs in FE3H it is possible this is to show that she can both heal and attack with marshal arts. Also a theory I came up with is that the u have to both find and capture rings which some might be with evil characters. One could say that given that a bad guy is seen putting on a ring some characters might be able to be corrupted such as how robin was turned evil. U might have to defeat them and purify them in order to use them.

Personally, i don't think those 12 would be the only rings we will have in the game. It's the main mechanic of the game after all, it would be too much of a wasted opportunity for them to add just 1 character of each game. I'm expecting at least 2 or 3 from each, that way characters like Robin, Alm, Tiki and Seliph can still come to the game.

Graphically it looks good, the story _seems_ barebone and cliche so far but that's better than Fates at least and could potentially be salvaged by good supports. Or could be the story is way deeper than they're implying so far. The rings being used to change characters' abilities and weapons allowing variability in builds is at least mechanically interesting. And outfit changes is nice. I don't expect the top tier of FE out of this, but it should be a fun game.

I’m honestly really excited for this game. I’ve been so starved for FE games so that could be it, but it looks promising. The protagonist’s designs are really growing in to me too. I just hope the story doesn’t branch out into different “paths” like 3H and Fates. It’s not that I don’t like them but they’re a bit over done for me now and I’d like something more straightforward like the older FE titles.
