Wish that you could find some youngster that loves horses, had some experience & would help you with starting these horses just for the experience! I did that when I was in junior high! I had horses my whole life but I wanted to ride more horses than I owned so I started helping a neighbor start some colts & rehabbing some horses just for the joy of being around so many horses! It was a great deal for both of us🌟🌟

Emily did great and loved Marine explaining everything I hope to see Emily back on the farm in the future, so nice to see kids learning new things. English saddles are difficult and you build muscles in place you never knew were there. LOL It’s a good opportunity for Emily to learn English riding while Marine is there with you. If Emily later in life wants a riding vacation to England or Europe, it would be a challenge to find a western saddle and even harder to find a quarter horse.

Your niece did just fine. May be have her face toward the back so she won’t get bonked on the chin if the foal lifts that leg up. Also gives her better position to move away if necessary. What’s up with the rake or whatever was at the hitching rail. Chipper didn’t like the mini bike and could have gotten angled up in it. Not very safe. English saddles are fun but lots of leg strength. Posting takes lots of core strength and heels more down/flatter foot set not behind her for better balance. Good job girls and Allen💕🤗

Good job Emily!! I ride English, it's fun to watch your family give it a try. It does feel really different. They can sit to a trot too, the post just takes a little trial and error. Once you get the feel for letting the horse propel you out of the saddle its easier. Otherwise it's mostly about having good balance, which anyone who rides western has too. Another way to feel more comfortable in the trot/post is to practice holding a 2-point position, which means to find your balance while standing in the stirrups as the horse trots. This is also a good position to practice trotting over poles or small crossrails (jumps).

Some years ago my granddaughter decided she wanted a horse. Her Aunt and Uncle helped her buy a one year old. It became my job to get her to and from the barn. She was a sixth graded and had never been around horses and I had only petted horses at a staple close to my home. So we had no idea how to take care of a horse. We decided to train her like a dog. Watching you with your niece brought back memories of that time. Seeing Peppi with you in your life also brought back memories f our Peppi. She would do the same thing tg to give us hugs. My Granddaughter lost interest in Peppi after she was bucked off her try riding her. My husband and I both have health problems and the doctor told him that he needed to stop working with horses. She was a registered quarter horse and we had a hard time even giving her away, Anyway I enjoy your videos. The ones with your family working with the horses are my favorites.

Heels down Emily. Back straight, hands still and look between the ears. You shouldn't even need your heels , just a squeeze with your lower leg and push with your seat. The horse will help you balance as Chipper is kind that way.

Looks like Emily has a natural seat and posting is easy for her. A few lessons with a trainer would really improve her skill set. Who knows you may have your first English rider in the family. I rode for a few years. Started with farm horses, took English then Western lessons. Liked both styles but really preferred English pleasure. Bought a little quarter horse and rode him both ways. It was a lot of fun. Now I am retired with standard poodles who are a lot of fun. I really enjoy your wonderful family. Thanks for sharing! You must be beyond proud of each and everyone of them! Looking forward to future adventures this spring!
