I love old Sheaffers! I wish the company was still as great as they used to be...

Unfortunately few are as great as the used to be or as we remember them to be.

Kinda agree with you. Pre-2000 sheaffer made beautiful pens with beautiful nibs (so as their performances although not always consistent). I don't see these qualities anymore. They make typical modern metal and plastic pens with nibs far less consistent in quality, at least to my experience. I have modern models: 2 sheaffer pops, 3 100s, and a sagaris (which has the worst nib condition among others), only 3 work properly......

@@sillypinkmate Unfortunately I believe Sheaffer has become just a name used to sell pens. There is no focus on writing excellence as there once was.

@@chrisrap52 Yepp, kind of a shame....... Makes me wanna hunt down the old models even if they're pre-owned, as long as the pen mechanics work properly, or don't look too beat up.

I recall first seeing the Sheaffer Imperials in an old magazine advertisement at the school library. The inlaid nib was the coolest thing and stuck with me, and to this day Sheaffer is my favorite vintage brand.

Nice, watching you, and later waski and what I ink, inspired me to start collecting Shaeffer vintage pens, especially the Inlaid nib model. So far I only have 4 models: 3 are cartridge converters and it's very fortunate modern cartridge converter can be used with this pens, and a couple of months ago I obtained a small touch down. I agree with you comments: it feels good to owned a pen with clear signs of used. Thank you for the nice video, terrific pens. I hope you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy 🖖.

What a fine pens you have. There is something different in old fountain pens. Coincidently, I, just today got restoration project ready of my Sheaffer Snorkel Admiral, pen from 50's. That is equipped with EF 14K nib and writes nicely and beautifully indeed.

I have a late 1990's Sheaffer Intrigue with a needle point, which I find useful for sketching and man it's fine. Hate the filling system, love the inlaid nib, 14k, which has some bounce. Some of the most stunning looking pen and nib combos ever made in my opinion!

I’ve found myself drawn to Sheaffer’s inlaid nibs. Maybe it’s because Sheaffer’s PFM and Legacy pens are my favorite pens ... period. I love their weight, shape, feel and writing experience. I also have several Targas and Imperials which are nice and I also enjoy. Thanks for another great video.

Very nice this review of these "sisters" fountain pens from long ago ... It's nice to hear the sound of nibs with a magical shape ... Thanks for everything Chris!

Thank you for a serious piece of "scholarship" on this video. I'm using the lockdown to get back to some pens that need attention, including several Sheaffers. One of my Triumphs will not seat either a cartridge or a converter, and still crew the barrel shut. This video contains some helpful images of the section and "connector", and ma have given me the clue as to what to search for, fo fix my problem.

Thanks for the shoutout. Interesting to see the other pens. The only one I have is a version of the Imperial. Sheaffer really did make some great pens!

Thank you, Chris. I really do love Sheaffer pens & you mentioned Cross which I like to. Cross pens seem to be underappreciated by fountain pen users which is a great shame because they are excellent writers. Cross purchased Sheaffer in 2014 but there seems to have been little change in Sheaffer pens available so we will have to see if they changed things in the future & keep the Sheaffer branding plus type of pens available. The Targa you brought appears to have been used as a hammer at some point or ran over by a car but I love that type of pen with Character, yeah it's beaten up with a wonky nib that makes it unique in my book and you finding and rescuing it makes me very happy. The Imperial IV & that knife-edge nib again is a great find, I love the inlaid nibs and the writing performance of Sheaffer pens is never in doubt, they work consistently like Parkers & Cross pens they just work & work well in my experiences. Lastly, the two Connisours with the nib and feeds that are still used today in pens like the 100, wonderful pens & I thank you for sharing. Stay Safe.

I recently acquired a Sheaffer Legacy I FP with a broad nib, exquisite writer!!

Hi Chris... Not a dig at all, but I notice your handwriting looks to be improved and cleaner when you wrote with the Imperial IV. The extra fine nib actually suits your writing. Cheers

It was my understanding that the 'Sheaffer's' can be used to date the pen reasonably accurately, sadly I can't seem to quickly find the information I'm recalling but I was pretty sure that the 's was dropped pretty early.

Hi Chris, I have a slimline like this one. It is all black with two silver rings and a silver clasp and a silver inlaid nib. Which refills do I get for this one. Love your video. From Devon UK regards Joan

All Sheaffers use same Sheaffer cartridge. It is unique to Sheaffer. Should be able to find at a pen store or Amazon. They have many colors. In US Amazon has a Sheaffer store - www.amazon.com/Sheaffer-Classic-Fountain-Cartridges-Assorted/dp/B002IKKL22?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1

Vintage pens are hit or miss. I got a pilot elite 18k in medium which writes nice. The ink flow wasn’t great when i got it, so it needed flossing and some tine opening. Now i love it and for $45 is was a steal.

Chris; do the caps of your Connoisseurs have an inner lining? I bought mine new 25 years ago, and unused it dries out rather quickly. Cap is definitely not airtight. I checked, and there is no lining, not sure if there should be one.
@chrisrap524 жыл бұрын
I see a small black liner at the inside top of the cap, need a strong light to see. Both of mine have them. My nibs will hard start after setting a few days. Wet the nib & writes OK.

I was overly impressed by the looks of Inlaid nibs and began looking for one of the pens with inlaid nib.. I started with Waterman Carene and found it a little too expensive and then came to know about Targa, Imperial and Valor.. Since Valor is also expensive and Targa was available only in brushed steel which I didn’t prefer, I ordered Imperial 777 (12K Gold filled with 14K nib) which was available.. While I’m waiting for it to be delivered, I find the listing of Targa in my preferred Electro plated Gold finish 😞 I’d have probably chosen a Targa over Imperial if it was available in the preferred finish earlier ( I like its ‘flat-top’ looks and slimmer design )
@chrisrap523 жыл бұрын
Lots of good choices. Hope you enjoy Targa. Thanks for watching

@@chrisrap52 Thanks ! It is Imperial that I’m going to get since I ordered it before Targa was available.. Targa - probably in next couple of months depending on its availability at that time..

If this was my only pen (thank the LORD that it’s not), I would use it. Otherwise I would keep the nib section and garbage the rest. Having a second nib for another Targa might be nice to have. I don’t think that as a collector,that I could derive any pleasure from using a pen in that condition or with that performance. To each his own !
