I will admit that the trust these beardies show is amazing, but I've always been given to understand that unless the animal is having trouble completing its shed that human intervention is actually dangerous for the animal. And that a soak in a shallow amount of warm water to help loosen the stuck shed is best with physical removal of small amounts of remaining stuck shed by the keeper being a last resort. I do recall hearing that some creatures are a bit lazy when it comes to removing the shed themselves however. Not only that, but some have a tendency to miss removing shed in certain places and do it consistently

I'm a bearded dragon owner ×3. I get the ear, nose, and eyelid assistance, they do occasionally need help in those areas. Tweezers make me nervous though, beardies are pretty chill to begin with, but I'd hate to have one flinch or move and accidentally do some harm. Those back peels were completely unnecessary though. Let them soak and they don't need help. My general rule of thumb is if it pulls the skin to remove it, it's not ready to come off yet

Nothing metal around the eyes! Just a good soak and a soft toothbrush helps helps loosen stuck shed.

Your concerns hold validity to them. If done at the right time it doesn't hurt them. kind of like shearing a sheep's wool. or putting horse shoes on a horse. A dog groomer etc. all my animals are rescues, and with the views from the shed videos, I am able to financially support the animals. I should put a warning on the videos

After a period of time after a shed and there’s still some stuck on it’s ok to help it come off so long as you aren’t needing to apply any force to remove it (unlike several of the clips in this video) otherwise you’re doing the equivalent of ripping what for us is like a patch of only partially-dead skin and both hurts and damages the scales. Removing from around the eyes and nose post-shed, though, can help them in ensuring they don’t stay on past that point and build up and cause infections. It’s still highly recommended to not do any of this unless in extreme cases like the leopard gecko clip early in the video

Lizards are very good at removing their own shed. Wet paper roll and places to rub is safest. Pulling shed is dangerous and can be painful! I’ve had my blue tongued lizard for 24years and she’s ok with doing it herself.

I don't know much about reptiles and such but I would think a nice soak in warm water would help and be easier on them, my cousin had to help her snake when he was shedding and she gave him a soak in warm water.and then gently wiped off the fully loosened old skin. It worked he was happier

You are not entirely wrong that they should be able to do it themselves however certain situations during their shedding sometimes they might need a little bit of help or they could go completely blind or death or lose their sense of smell sometimes it’s OK to help them

I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to do that. Sheds are supposed to fall off by themselves...if we "help" the shed you run the risk of damaging the new scales below potentially causing more harm than good. I know it's very tempting because I want to help my grand lizard every time but I don't.

This all depends on whether the shed is ready to come off, if you truly insist on help test a small area first if it pulls the skin stop immediately it isnt ready, also if possible try and only help if the shed has been on there for more then 5 days without change

We do the same just in smaller batches, they also don’t have any nerve endings in that skin so no pain is involved, and complications only occur if humidity and temperature is way off.

Actually I do it so I can take in more rescue dragons with more sponsors and more support from the reptile community. I re-home dragons and I definetly know when to help and when not to. It doesny hurt them when done at the right time. But its rare that the animal doesnt get it out on there own before I help. Stay Positive my friend, and even though you might still believe that I am doing something bad and I was going to hurt the dragon...... Yet you then wish harm and the same animal you "love" harm to it. To get me back? Stay Rad and smile

Those things you saw are called caps. Their used to protect the eyes from dirt and stuff since geckos don't have eyelids. When they shed, their eyes shed as well so a new cap can form.

The first lizard is how my dog acts when i trim around the pads of her feet like nope but have to keep the hair from being to much longer then her pads and thats why I tell her gently and calmly to not move I don't want to accidentally hit her pad or might not be able to do it again as we once had a long hair dog that got mats but you try to get scissors or a brush near him and he wouldn't let you near him for the rest of the day not even 4 adults could hold him down wish thought of tranquilizers back then luckily the matting fell off after a week still find it funny the day my grandma chased him around the yard yelling at me to catch him and hold him and i just laughed and said told you so and went up to gramps dog lot good old boy Rufus i would happily trade something just to have one more chance just to hug him and think him for the good memories before sending him back to where he now stays 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Whatever happened to letting them shed on their own? This is a pet peeve of mine with reptile owners. If they're having issues with it, up the humidity in their habitats or wet them down a little, but you should never peel their skin off for them. Just make sure they have rocks and sticks to rub against so they can do it on their own.

You arent supposed to remove bearded dragons shed. I have two and have done years of reaearch. The reptile comunity has said that pulling their shed off is equivalent to humans pulling their hangnails off that are painful. And it can damage the scales under their shed. Theres no way for you to tell "when the perfect time" is. The only reason you need to remove shed is if it's stuck particularly near toes legs or tail. And then youre supposed to give them a soak first. And their skin is water proof so the bath wont even help unless the skin is broken. Not trying to start arguments or being a karen. Just sharing some research that ive found. Instead put a brick and other rouch textures in their enclosure so they can remove the shed themselves. Beardies arent like other reptiles, they shed in stages on the body. Not all at once.

He’s already established that he’s making money on these videos so he can “care for the animals” and that he’s not gonna stop ripping unready shed off because “that’s what the masses want”. It’s shameful to exploit your animals for profit, this guy thinks he’s helping when he’s actually hurting. Most of the dragons are flinching away from him which proves it hurts. I feel so sorry for the poor babies having to endure that. The agama I just got had his first shed a couple weeks after I got him and I didn’t touch him at all during it, and only put my hands in the tank to feed him and clean up the flakes of shed. He’s still healthy and happy because I left him alone at a vulnerable time. This guy shouldn’t have reptiles if he’s just gonna exploit their discomfort for profit

So I do not have a bearded dragon. I have a hamster. I know there are two different tooly species animals. One is a fuzzy mammal one is a reptile. But I did have a turtle I had five of them technically. I had a regular slider and four painted turtles I lost one of my turtles earlier on she passed on. I'm going to detail on that one. But if I had a bearded dragon and I were assisting it while it was shedding its skin. I personally do not think I would use tweezers or tongs or anything like that. For the simple fact that I could actually slip and poked the bearded dragon in its eyeball. Which could be very dangerous for the animal and quite painful. Also I could slip and hit the animal in the eardrum which would be extremely excruciatingly painful for that animal. I personally feel I would use my fingers just for the safety reason. Also when you use tongs on animals like this. I don't feel that you can physically feel when you're peeling what you're not supposed to peel. Because honestly when you have your hands on an animal you can tell what needs to come off of what does it. When I had my red-eared slider I would assist him when he would feel his scoops and they would shut off. For those of you who don't know what a scoot is it's part of the animal shell. Gators have them crocodiles have them. But Turtles tortoises aquatic turtles they have these sections of their shell that they peel off. The upper the bottom and the rim. And all peels off piece by piece. Slider with his shell it was shedding. I always use my hands because I could tell what needed to come off of what didn't. And I knew doing that I wouldn't injure him
