They were great. They didn't need to humour an old bloke, but they were on holiday having fun and didn't care about me joining them for a couple of laps.

Hey Lance, how long did you have to book in advance? I'm hoping to book something around December/January for a June MTB holiday?

I didn't really book anything in advance. We only got flights 2 weeks before leaving. Generally hired bikes the night before. Booked some accommodation a few weeks before others a few days before. More choice the earlier you book.

Looks like you’re having a great time. Is Italy very expensive for a riding holiday?

The cost of accommodation and food is about the same or cheaper than NZ. Bike hire about the same. If you had your own bike and didn't ride chair lifts all day, it would be very reasonable. Many people do the van thing, which would be cheaper still. But I'm not sure my wife would be keen on that. Italy is cheaper than France, Germany and especially Switzerland. Petrol is more expensive.

Headset. The funny thing is when I returned the bike and told them. They said it is new and quite normal.😮
