As a manager, I had the unpleasant task to confront employees in regards to the personal hygiene habits. The best way to handle it is discretely, directly and professionally. It is uncomfortable but it has to be addressed. Most employee handbooks cover this and you can always use this as a reference point. Many times the employee is going through a difficult time and may not realize their hygiene has been neglected.

My brothers are yellers and screamers and just generally loud. They have issues to put it nicely. When they are going off on me or venting or something, I just sit in calm silence. When they're done, they feel pretty stupid cuz they were the only ones screaming. The best possible answer to me is no answer at all. Just stay calm and quiet until they are done. Then, if they want to calm down and talk as adults, then go for it. If not,just walk away. It took me many years to do this. And I'm not perfect. Sometimes, I get into it with them. But I was told something a long time ago that I have taken to heart: "I have 2 ears and 1 mouth. So, I listen twice as much as I speak."

Unfortunately, sometimes hygene is a manner of how they were raised. If they grew up in a house where bathing was a weekly thing and not a daily thing (it happens) then this may be their norm and having it brought up may be truly confusing to them. In other rare circumstances I have run across the occasional employee who's family had some belief against deodorant and working in a hot environment was incondusive to this practice. I spoke with them in the morning and they smelled just fine, then by mid day they reaked. There are also those who have actually brought in doctors notes that explained that some medications may elevate body odor. That amazed me, but upon further research I found it to be true (not that I thought the doctors were lying or the notes were forged.). So, it is not always the fault of poor hygiene, just remember that before you judge someone. When you've worked as a boss, you learn things you never thought possible. Everyone's normal is not the same, and there are extenuating circumstances sometimes. As far as people's clothing not looking good on them... that is your opinion, not necessarily their's. Not every one even cares about fashion. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but some people just don't. There are those out here that only put on clothes because it is required by law to cover themselves. And those who dress up, only because a job requires it. With out any intrest in fashion, they have no sense in what is current or what goes together.

And sometimes ppl are lazy or hate bath. I'm that kind of a person. I'm usually taking a shower once a week, tho i change my underwear more often. Idk, i just really hate shower. And, i also have allergy on the shower water, like, I can't take the shower or bath for more than 10 minutes, but if i will add some soap or babble stuff into my bath, i can stay there for hours. But yh. Some ppl just hate it. Good thing my body odour is not that strong, as some ppl have it, so I'm not smelly, only after a week my smell can become a huge problem and ppl can smell it, thats why i take shower weekly, even tho my family do it daily (my brother doing it 2-3 times a day, lol)

@@VickyTheVikram The thing is, others will smell you before you smell yourself. And throwing body spray, cologne/ perfume, or deodorant on an unwashed body only goes so far for most people. It also makes a difference what climate or season it is. Cooler climates or seasons can stretch out bathing times for some people where as warm or hot climates can whip up a funk for some people in a matter of hours.
