Sheep flock murdered this weedy field! There is money to be made with weeds in your pastures if you own hair sheep! Our sheep prefer weeds over grass every day of the week. I love taking a nuisance plant and turning it into cash by growing lambs from it. If you want to keep your farm profitable every year, check out my 3 grazing books that I wrote on our website: greenpasturesfa...

Thanks for the video! I notice when you make a flerd you get even more dung beetles than keep them separated. It’s so nice having my animals broke to single poly braid too.

I have a small pen of two sheep and 6 goats. They destroy pigweed, curly dock, mulberry and elm trees, and multiflora rose. They don't like ragweed as much but they'll eat it if there's nothing else. I can't wait for the pasture to improve! This is only the first year of bringing them through. It's been hayed for decades, and hasn't had animals on it in probably 20-25 years since my grandfather stopped helping with cattle. I'm bringing chickens through the portion that hasn't been hayed so they can scratch up and add nitrogen to the thatch. I'm already seeing improvement behind them in spite of the extremely dry summer we've had.

Sheep do a great job grazing. The best is having cattle too. Some things sheep don't eat but cattle do like stinging nettles.

Lord love a duck I am stunned by the job the sheep did that weekend . I like diversity in my diet too I love a colourful display on my plate I especially like the essential ABC'S avocado beets cabbage and sweet potato jazzed with the essential garlic ginger cinnamon ground cloves and turmeric spices almost forgot fresh ground pepper and pink salt and the onions , hemp hearts, and an alphabet of greens And of course I like to use real butter or coconut oil and a selection of real protein pasture raised eggs meat and wild caught fish. I wonder if the dung beetles preference is due to the size and shape difference.this is the first time I have ever seen a dung beetle fkyi should have realized that they are capable of flight like other beetles .. learning something new everyday thank you! I just realized I didn't wax lyrical about the occasional organic fruit that I rarely add kiwi mango and strawberries well the kiwi and strawberries are always organic it has been about 15 hours since I last ate I will open the eating window in another four hours with my main meal of the day a great BREAK faat. Iwill see you later perhaps after awhile looking forward to the next one 😘💕💞💕🎶🎵🎶👍👍👍🍀🌟🍀🖖🖖🖖🎶🎵🎶💜🙋🏼‍♀️💜

You are what you eat and your body is your Temple. Sounds like you take it very much to heart, or should I say gut. Greg’s methods of farming have taken his lands, many or which were highly abused and burned out, back to a balance that Praire was like 150 years ago. That and what he produces is better than the 95% or more that most get in the pipeline. I concur on your choice of intermittent fasting. I myself have even done better on absolute 2 to 3 day fasts.

Hey did you see “Audubon is launching a “bird friendly beef” campaign at the national level. Offering its seal of approval to ranchers whose methods bring birds back. Historically, U.S wildlife conservation efforts have focused on preserving habitats. But Audubon’s new strategy is specifically geared toward improving the environmental value of working lands, implying that “nature “ and “agriculture “ are not mutually exclusive entities. Who knew? :)

I know you no longer have issues with parasites, but how can you tell when a sheep is starting to get parasites? What medicine would you treat with before you sell them? Thank you
@swamp-yankee
@swamp-yankee 2 жыл бұрын
Check their inner eyelid color. If their pale and/or they have runny manure down their back end and are thin you’ve got parasites. Also you might see tape worms in the manure. I’ve got a low level population of tape worms in my flock, but I don’t worry about it since they don’t seem to be hurting their condition.

Greg, great video, are those plants going to grow back or will the grasses take over? What would happen if you took a mower or brush hog and knocked down those stems?
@swamp-yankee
@swamp-yankee 2 жыл бұрын
In my context I’d say that would be a waste of fuel. There’s plenty of light reaching the ground and grass will grow even if some of the weeds recover slightly. The stocks will catch more due then a mowed piece also. Plus if it got eaten it’s feed, so it might as well grow back. I try and only mow woody weeds. My current nemesis is an iron wood relative that is very unpalatable to sheep.
