The Sheep Game

Күн бұрын

So for this I just ordered some heras fencing and put in in a rough circle. Easy to setup and move if required. I think it's a great little pen for starting to train sheepdog puppy Fern.

ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZbin and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

Hey Cammy I had a very special dog she was my hearing ear dog she let me know any from baby crying to phone and door smoke detector and even if I dropped my keys or anything and I credit her for saving my baby twin life he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her and her name was Panda and she was a Sheltie X and an amazing dog sadly I had to put her down in 2004 and when I am able to spend more time with a dog I will be getting another one they r amazing dogs

I'm not an expert (not even a farmer), but, as a long time dog owner I thought she did really well. For a six month old dog to lie and stay like that is quite impressive and she shows no tendency to dive in amongst the sheep. Really good.
@wendyrowland7787
@wendyrowland7787 3 жыл бұрын
She was giving the command according to what the dog was doing so that the dog can relate her actions to the word. Did you notice the command word came after the dog’s chosen action.
@richardl7161
@richardl7161 3 жыл бұрын
@@wendyrowland7787 Yes, I appreciate that the commands came after the actions, but I still think it's impressive that such a young dog will lie down and stay put with sheep that close. I also think that the fact she didn't try to make contact with the sheep is impressive. I realise it's mainly the dog's natural instincts, but you don't often see one that good. As I said, I'm not a farmer, but I did spend a lot of time working with sheep in my youth and have seen a lot of dogs nowhere near that good.

Young Kids having a go. Looked pretty good to me. Steadiness in the dog, which l bet wasn’t there by accident. Allowed you to let the dog display and develop its herding instincts and experience. The ring enabling you to create switches of direction and then naming them. That looks a great solid start.

I'm absolutely over the moon about this video. I have been wanting a video about sheep dog training for so long. I began teaching my 8 year old dog some of the commands while we were out walking and he responds to them! It's like it's almost natural to him. And hes not even remotely close to being a sheep dog. Hes a Chihuahua shiba inu mix. It's also made me more aware of his behavior and Prompts me to be more in control, making him feel more secure. It's amazing.

@@TheSheepGame It really bothered me when I watched that video you made about people letting their dogs run loose and attacking sheep. I've never in all my years ever let my dog run free in public spaces because how could I control him? Dogs , like people, are unpredictable. He's my responsibility when we're out in public so I have to be the best Dog parent I can be. So when I saw your video it made me think that I need Ed to bring my game up a notch. That even though I always walk him on a leash that he still needs to be A better canine citizen..

You have learned that Camera 📸 well. I have trained an Scottish Collie as a SOS dog. A lot of work, but rewarding. We are not interested in the ants Cammy 😂😂😂. Amazing view from the top of your car. Maybe trashing the car with the fence? Wise to leave the car and carry them yourselfs. Love the drone views. You are a great sheep 🐑 😂. Lizzy is amazing. Don't be to hard on yourself. I had no experience with dogs and needed an SOS dog for my autistic kids. Then you have to train the dog yourself. It was a big job, especially because I was already ♿ bound. The potential is there

This old lady learned something. I may have heard the term squash but had not idea what it was. Lime cordial was mentioned in the film Mary Poppins as one of the “medicine” flavors. I wondered about that as cordial seemed more connected to an alcoholic beverage. In the US we have had flavored syrups in quart bottles sold in a stores that used to cater more to stores and food vendors. These were used to flavor snow cones/shaved ice or diluted with water for drinks/punch. Now we have lots of water enhancers, little squeeze bottles of various flavors of highly concentrated sugar free stuff to add to water. We’ve also had Kool-Aid for many years. Packets of flavored powders to add to 2 quarts of water with a cup of sugar. Later sugar free varieties that used artificial sweeteners. Hawaiian Punch, a fruit flavored syrup, is probably the most widespread similar product at least here in the Los Angeles area.
