Amazing times we had a good team tricky trev as manager warhurst who looked like he would score at any time he has the ball. He was a good replacement if Hirst was injured. The only dodgy player was Chris woods who was very suspect at times remember derby at Hillsborough and he was all over the place plus fa cup defeat against Arsenal I think he could have done better. I always rated pressman we always had decent keepers.

How things have changed I never missed a game and would wag school to travel for midweek games.i can remember thinking every time warhurst had the ball he would score he was fast and strong and was a perfect replacement for hirsty who started to become injury prone.

How we could do with another warhurst at Hillsboro we have one year player who is an out and out striker. It’s a shame he wasn’t found a bit earlier in is owls career. To go from being a defender with 2 goals in his career to play with frightening pace an eye for goal and was one best strikers in the league. This was the glory years. A team who were established top ten team. Warhurst came in and was a good replacement for hirsty who started to get injuries that kept him out. He would have been an England player he was better than shearer and Alex Ferguson kept trying to buy him

I've seen this. I just think he didn't realise what Paul Williams brought to the team. He never checked his assist radio. Which would have been high and he set up a lot of goals for Hirst. And always used to link well the team. Just like Chris waddle. He should have bought Mark bright and found a way to keep William's. That's how to strengthen a team. He said the same thing about Andy Sinton. We got rid of two of three good players to bring in one quality player. He said. And then he said that's what you got to do to bring the calibre of Sinton. The problem with that is if Sinton gets injured you've got nobody in reserve. John Harkes Paul Williams are not there on the bench. The problem with selling two really good players for one quality player is your creating a really strong first 11 but thining down your squad entirety. And the success comes from a strong squad not a strong 11. And that is what went wrong with Trevor because the team suffered so many injuries they had nobody to replace them. He never got that. In the end had to look at a defender Paul Warhurst and turn a defender into striker. But he didn't want to stay.

@@rawkinrich he went to Blackburn. I think Francis discovered his talent and he started to see himself above. Ironically his career disintegrated after he left same as Bart Williams. I wonder if they regret the move. That's my explanation. But I think Trevor Francis made some errors. You should never have been in that position to make Warhurst, Palmer, Hyde, emergency strikers when when the core strikers got injured. He sold some good players. To bring in high quality players. He did that but he had nothing in reserve for when players got injured and suspensions. Or players fighting for position. That's why Wednesday could have on an eight game unbeaten run and then have a poor run. The pattern is when he's got his first 11 they are strong when they lose a few players the cracks show.

I wonder if we could convert Tom Lees into a striker 🤔

Nice to see some positive stuff coming from Wednesday, the only issue it all seems to be from 20+ plus years ago 😂. Still nice to remember we used to be good

Watching this now just makes the present even more depressing. One thing I didn’t appreciate during these days was - just how good Worthington was.

Worst forward we EVER bought back then (apart from Gordon Watson obviously) was Mark Bright. Apart from the easy header against the pigs in the semi final, he did fuck all but miss sitters. Absolutely gash striker

Always remember Chelsea being our bogey team but we beat them in semi and had some positive results just like Everton in late 80s then Arsenal were our achilles heal. To win both domestic finals in really close jammy ways were difficult to take. Plus they were most boring quiet fans. We had to come back on a Thursday night only days after the original final in fa cup. We generated so much noise even half full due to fans not affording or work commitments. To lose in last minute was hard to take

@@marcwilcox2281 It really was horrible. I cried like a baby - When Waddle scored to level it, I thought there was hope. That Merson corner, I knew someone would get on it, Chris Woods hated being boxed up. What a team we had though. UTO!!
