Himmmm.... I don't think the reason to change his name from Gameessaa to G/mariam is only for religious purpose. My father told me so many stories that was happening back then in Ethiopia.

What do you think then? He was not the only one chaged his name. Have ever noticed all Ethiopia kings have their own birthday name for example king Tewodrose his name was kassa Hailu and king Yohannes his name was Bezbez Kassa even king Hailesslasie his name was Teferi Moknnen. This was all about religion purpose.
