@hambonefake-namington9983 think "look at foles after leaving" is an unfair argument. He went to teams trying to build a good team. He didn't have anyone around him. If you compare him leaving to Brady leaving for example. Brady went to the bucks who were a qb away from a good team, foles had no one around him on the bears or Denver (notice how they both have yet to reach the playoffs while tampa made it to the playoffs without brady)

If Chip didn't pull him out of the Raiders game, he had enough time and momentum to get another TD and maybe hold the single game TD record at 8. I hated when they traded him to the Rams, but maybe he wouldn't have been around for the SB without that specific journey.

True story about the Vikings/Eagles NFC championship that year (vikes fan here). We were driving back to our hotel from a ski trip in CO, and it was a full on blizzard in the mountains. The radio was fading in and out, and every time it came back the Eagles had scored another touchdown. By the time we finally got back to the hotel, it was 38-7 with just a few min left. Looking back I'm glad I didn't have to watch that one!

When Foles was first with the Eagles, I was a huge fan and felt like he was a great QB to run Chip Kelley’s system, and he was literally on fire. Then, in all of Chip Kelley’s “I’m gonna destroy this” wisdom, he traded for…SAM Bradford!?!? What!? That was one of the worst times to be an Eagles fan. Chip was ready to chop up the whole team in a a vain attempt to get Marcus Mariota. He even gave Shady McCoy the boot. I was ecstatic to see him have this amazing come back story. If anyone deserved to be the first QB to bring home a Super Bowl for the Eagles, it’s Nick. He didn’t even have to do a single thing after that. He’s a legacy that you’ll rarely ever see happen.

Nick Foles wasn't the starter in 2013 when he threw 27 TDs and 3 INTs. He was Michael Vick's backup and came in for Vick in week 5 after Vick got injured. He only played 11 games that year, which is the most he's ever played in a single season, and that was Nick's one-hit wonder year. Remember that Foles averaged only 5-7 games played per season, could never play a full season, and was a failure as a starter on every team he played for - Eagles in 2014, Rams in 2015, Jaguars in 2019, and the Bears in 2020.

@44excalibur 8 күн бұрын
No he's not. Foles won a Super Bowl as a backup quarterback, but don't forget that Jeff Hostetler also won a Super Bowl for the Giants as a backup quarterback, and no one's calling him the greatest Giants quarterback of all time. Foles was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to have the game of his life, but never forget that Nick Foles could never play a full season and was a failure as a starter on every team he ever played for.
@noraodonnell2999
@noraodonnell2999 8 күн бұрын
@44excalibur my position is a nuanced one, because I don't think best and greatest are the same thing. Nick co-owns the record for most touchdowns thrown in a game. If you watch the Secret Base video on taking the limits off the QB rating, he has the second highest rated game of all time. He beat prime Brady and prime Patriots (who won the year after and were not yet in decline). Nick's 2013 season was legendarily good, record settingly good, but he was never the quarterback that his coaches wanted. His skillset is nuanced and there are weak esses, but his highs are as high as some of the greatest to ever play the game. In the Super Bowl era, only 4 Eagles quarterbacks have gotten them to the end. Hurts choked, McNabb choked and threw up under the pressure, and although Jaworski was before my time wikipedia tells me the score was in the Raiders favor. Nick Foles had nerve and talent. He led the Eagles over a damn fine Patriots team in an offensive slugfest of a championship game. The SB with the highest combined yards, combined passing yards combined score. Jeff Hostetler doesn't win that game. Most quarterbacks ever don't win that game. 90 times out of a hundred, Tom Brady wins that game. Edit: for clarification, I think McNabb was probably the best Eagles quarterback. Getting them to the NFC championship game 4 years in a row was not a fluke, but he didn't have the nerve to handle the highest levels of pressure, in the biggest game, against the toughest opponent.
@noraodonnell2999
@noraodonnell2999 8 күн бұрын
@@44excalibur I'm not trying to say that "Nick was perfect and it's the NFL that failed Nick," but I am saying that Brady and the Patriots were too good, that season and in that game, to beat by a fluke. Foles was always capable of more than people gave him credit for, and under different circumstances his career could have been even more impressive.
@44excalibur
@44excalibur 8 күн бұрын
@@noraodonnell2999 Okay, allow me to give an equally nuanced opinion. The fact is that Nick Foles got lucky. He got lucky that Carson Wentz had an MVP-level season in 2017 and took the Eagles to 11-2 and the #1 seed, giving them home field and a first round bye. Foles got lucky that he only had to start in the final two games of the season against the Giants and Raiders, two of the worst teams in the league. Foles got lucky that the Eagles defense shut down a Falcons offense that nearly beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl the year before to win the Divisional playoff 14-15. Foles got lucky that the blown pass interference call during the "Miracle in Minneapolis" prevented Drew Brees and the Saints from advancing to the NFC Championship Game so that Foles and the Eagles only had to face the overrated frauds that were the Minnesota Vikings. And Foles got really lucky that New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick decided to bench his best defensive player, Malcolm Butler, for the entire game during Super Bowl LII. See, Foles was playing with house money. The fact is that he wasn't supposed to win because he's just a backup who was never able to play a full season in his entire career and was a failure as a starter on every team he ever played for. Jeff Hostetler did the same for the Giants. But Foles would never have been able to lead the Eagles from Week 1 all the way to the Super Bowl.

Carson Wentz robbed Eagles fans of a few more years of their hero Foles. It pained me to see him suffer on those terrible teams he went to.
@44excalibur
@44excalibur 8 күн бұрын
Carson Wentz didn't rob anyone. You really think that Nick Foles would have done any better had he been made the Eagles starter? Foles has never been able to play a full season on any team he's been with because he's not built for that. He's a backup for a reason, and he's not the only backup to win a Super Bowl. Jeff Hostetler was a backup who won a Super Bowl for the Giants, but do you see any statues of him outside of Met Life Stadium?
@denimchicken104
@denimchicken104 8 күн бұрын
@ things may not have been any better under Foles, correct. However, after winning Philly it’s only Super Bowl, I’d gladly give Foles the roster spot. He’s proven that he’s good enough on the biggest stage. If we have to choose one, I choose the one who won the Super Bowl. There’s no guarantee Wentz would’ve done it. It’s not fair, but it is what it is. Plus trading Wentz could’ve earned great draft picks or players.
@44excalibur
@44excalibur 8 күн бұрын
@@denimchicken104 Sorry, but you're wrong. If the Eagles made Foles their starter, he'd never get through a full season. What good is being good on the biggest stage if you're not built to play the 18 games you need to play to get to the biggest stage? Look at what happened to him with the Jaguars and the Bears. They'd be carrying Foles off of Lincoln Financial Field on a cart if they made him the starter, and then they'd have to draft another quarterback and start all over again. They were not gonna trade Carson Wentz when they traded up two places to get him in the first round. Your type of thinking is the reason why Carson Wentz felt like he lost the team and the city after that Super Bowl. You can't replace your starter with a backup, and you don't put a statue of your backup outside of your stadium. The Giants made that mistake back in 1991. They benched Phil Simms and replaced him with Jeff Hostetler, the backup who won Super Bowl XXV, and it was a disaster. Hostetler got injured halfway through the season and Simms got the starting job back, and Hostetler got traded away a year later. Backups are backups for a reason.
@denimchicken104
@denimchicken104 8 күн бұрын
@ so much to unpack… first, Foles got wrecked by playing on bad teams behind bad lines. The Eagles have one of the safest offenses for a pocket passer. Second, Carson was just as injury prone. There’s broken ribs his rookie season, then the ACL, the broken back, the concussion in the playoffs. It’s football. Third, idk why you’d stick up for Carson like Hes some legend. His career never went anywhere. He was freed from having Foles behind his back and he played like crap and refused to accept coaching. Fourth, investment. Too many people get lost in the sunk cost fallacy. That somehow the right move is sticking with the one you put the most time and resources into. The signs were staring them right in the face the whole time. The team had problems with Wentz and the locker room was tighter with Foles. Personally I always liked Foles, even before they traded him and then drafted Wentz. When I saw him win a Super Bowl, that’s frankly all I needed to see. Tough break for Wentz, but his services weren’t needed. Part of being a fan is the fun in rooting for players you like, and I’d gladly root for a Super Bowl champion for a few more years even if they never reach those same heights. Either player is a bett on the unknown future, so I’ll bet on the guy who gave the fan base its greatest achievement and memories. This is all I’m going to say on the matter.
@44excalibur
@44excalibur 8 күн бұрын
@@denimchicken104 No, Foles was a quarterback of limited ability. He was stationary in the pocket, he had average arm strength, and he was not physically capable of playing a full season. The Eagles had one of the safest offenses for a pocket passer? Yeah, now, but back then the Eagles had an aging offensive line that were like turnstiles in a subway. Second, Carson was not "injury prone." He had a rib injury during the preseason of the 2016 season, but he was healthy for the regular season and played all 16 games. He suffered a torn ACL at the end of the 2017 season, but the reason for his back injury in 2018 was because coach Doug Pederson and GM Howie Roseman rushed Carson back from his injury in week 3, which they should not have done. You also forget that Carson was the ONLY Eagle healthy during the 2019 season, when Carson had to use players from the practice squad, and most of that was due to GM Howie Roseman making terrible draft picks and free agent signings that were mostly busts or aging, injured players. And that concussion was due to Jadaveon Clowny taking a cheap shot at Carson from behind. If that had been Patrick Mahomes, Clowney would have been ejected from the game. Also, the team had no problem whatsoever with Wentz during the 2017 season when they were winning, and Carson was playing like an MVP. The only time the locker room had a problem with Carson was after they won the Super Bowl and started acting like Foles could walk on water, just like the whole city. Also, you're delusional if you think that Foles could replace Wentz as the starter just because he won a Super Bowl. Let me say this once again.... NICK FOLES CAN'T PLAY A FULL SEASON!!! What good is having a guy who can't play a full season as a starter? That's all I'm going to say on the matter, because what I said are the facts.

If Foles had stayed an Eagle for his whole career he'd be adored in the same breath as Ron Jaworski, Randall Cunningham, and Donovan McNabb. Jalen Hurts can join the list if he gets Philly a second Lombardi Trophy. The closest thing to the 2017 Eagles saga was the 1990 New York Giants when Jeff Hostetler replaced an injured Phil Simms and beat a previous QB GOAT, Joe Montana, on the way to victory in Super Bowl 25.

Foles was one of the streakiest QBs ever. When he was hot, he could play as well as anyone ever has. But the rest of the time....not so great. That said, he had one of the greatest super bowl games ever, he is a legit MVP and champ and nothing will take that away. Not a bad career.

People forget that Nick Foles wasn't the first backup quarterback to win a Super Bowl. Jeff Hostetler won Super Bowl XXV with the New York Giants after coming in to replace Super Bowl XXI MVP Phil Simms when Simms broke his ankle in the final weeks of the 1990 NFL season, and Hostetler had to get by Mike Ditka's Chicago Bears, Joe Montana and the four time Super Bowl champion San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game, AND Jim Kelly and the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXV.

I loved that game against the Vikings. Their fans came in and thought one or two busloads of fans from Minnesota were going to come in and take over the city and the stadium. Their dressed up the Rocky statue and basically acted like they were entitled to the championship and the game was just a formality. Then their team got embarrassed and they cried for a year about how Eagles fans are meanies and they should be awarded the game and the Lombardi because of it. (Actual thing I saw a Vikings fan post).
