Yes, it is true of Goodwill over the past few years. I have shopped Goodwill for decades and as the online retailers grew they stopped putting the antiques out and started selling them online themselves. I was really disappointed in the new business model. The Lord started directing me to Goodwill years ago to shop for my children’s ministry. He taught me how to hear His voice that way. My friends always ask me how I find stuff at Goodwill. Besides the times I am directed there, it really is a way of life. You must frequent the store so that you can whiz through until you spot that thing that calls to you. Definitely skip the clothes unless there is a need.

I definitely head to home goods section when I Thrift where I look at decor and furniture. I try to only get the color on sale for the week. Now that I’m losing weight I may look at clothes again. I have that same tray from Tuesday Morning for my coffee station. I don’t care for Starbucks but I started thrifting Starbucks mugs because of you and gifting and collecting them. I found little paper wrapped evergreens last year after Christmas. I’ve trained my eye over 25 years of thrifting to spot gems. I love things that are classic, vintage, seasonal and French/romantic, between Goodwill and Goodwill bins, yard sales clearance and other charity shops I’ve thrifted most of my house. I loved the dogs. You’re so blessed to have pics of your mom when she was little! I have none of her or myself

Happy New Year! I enjoyed thrifting vicariously with you! I loved your haul & listening to your thrifting tips. I thought your tips were spot on. Often times, I walk out of the thrift store with nothing, but that's OK. It happens. Then there are times I'm amazed that I found so much! I find you that you must adopt the attitude of patience & persistence while thrifting because you just never know if your next visit to the thrift store will be super exciting because you found the item you've been hoping to find for years!

Merry Christmas and thank you for the inspiration. It has been a busy time here at my house and it was nice to set down and watch your video. I’m looking forward to getting out to thrift. My tip for thrifting is check out any missions thrifts stores… their prices are much better than Salvation Army stores. My favourite thing you thrifted was that wire basket. When I seen it in the thrift store I thought boy I would like to have that. I really liked everything you thrifted as well. God bless!😊

I love thrifting! One of my favorite finds is my peacock chair I scored for only $24.99! You mentioned pretty much all my tips. Only one I’d probably add is to keep an open mind when looking at things as you don’t have to use things in it’s originally intended purpose.

Sweet Sarah, Thank you for all the inspiration this year! I love thinking outside of the box, while creating vignettes. One of my thrifting tips is filling your cart with the items that you are officially attracted to, but I often purge the first things I find and put them back on the shelf, to upgrade the treasure someone stashed in the shoes. Look everywhere, the best things I have found is hidden in a secret spot, 🤣😂, I realize it sounds funny, but happens often! Looking forward to new adventures, wishing You and your Family a Blessed 2025 ❤️🎉❤️.

My favorite was your Albany framed picture. It's beautiful. I always look at the artwork when I thrift. Over the years I have found great framed wall decor, most of which still hangs in my home. But like everything while thrifting, you have to wade through lots of bad stuff! 40 years ago when I lived in Colorado one of the local Goodwills had a vintage/antique section of their store. I got a full set of china there, which I still have, for maybe $40, which for me was a lot then.

My BEST find this season, at the Thrift Store... was a bag of crosstitch ornaments, "The Twelve Days of Christmas"...I crosstitch myself, so I know the HOURS it takes to make one...these were stitched on 18 Ct. Aida, beautifully created, stitched impeccably, the whole bag for $15.... Each Ornament represents one of the 12 Days of Christmas with the number stitched on it as well as the Turtle Dove, Geese a Laying, Partridge in the Pear Tree... It would have taken me, hours upon hours, to stitch these myself...

Wow you really lucked out with your purchases! I loved them all and how you transformed them. I never ever find great bookends or dogs like you find and have been looking for years. Your always finding them that’s so great , keeps me hopeful . If I really love something whether i can think of where or how to display it or not I grab it. Iam going to say 99 percent of the time it actually fits right in . So don’t doubt yourself if you come across something that really tugs at your heart . You know if you don’t get it you’ll be thinking about it constantly and wishing you did and maybe running back to get it. Just get it and save yourself the trip. If you’ve developed your style Aesthetic than most likely it will be right at home in your home. Have a beautiful blessed day in the Lord🙏🕊💕🌹

Hi Sarah! Great finds; my fav is the picnic basket. My tip if you are in Wa state or have Value Village/Savers, donate things regularly, if even a bag of stuff and get the 20% off coupon. Join their loyalty club program and you also get coupons after so many dollars spent. They have 50% off color of the week but I rarely find anything with those. But sometimes I do. If you are a senior, 55+, go Tues for 30% off everything! Goodwill also has a senior day but I can't remember which it is. I totally agree to look up and squat down to reach the lower shelves. Pickers go early and get a lot of the good stuff so opening is best but I never get there early myself and still find great stuff. oxJulia

I do exactly what you do-skip the clothes until the end if I have time (unless I'm looking for something specific). I usually go to dishes first, then frames, baskets, hardgoods, jewelry and linens. Linens are my favorite thing to look for at Goodwill and are usually priced the best. I live in Florida (Bradenton/Sarasota), and we have tons of thrift stores! So many that you would never be able to go to them all in one day. It's overwhelming, so I created a document that lists every thrift store, the address, hours, and also if they only accept cash (we have several that do). I keep this in the Notes app on my phone. I also group the thrift stores by area - for instance - we have three charity shops on the same street. I have them grouped as a "route" for driving purposes to be totally efficient. I try to support the church/charity stores first - they usually have the best sales and prices. I will go to Goodwill in the evenings because they are the only stores open at night. I look for 100% linen whenever possible because I use it for sewing and crafting (tablecloths, sheets, etc). I also look for linen skirts and pants. I find linen tablecloths and napkins all the time! My best linen score ever was a vintage Ralph Lauren 100% linen king-size cream color duvet cover. It is gorgeous! And those are not cheap. I paid $30 for it at Goodwill (the most I've ever paid for fabric). Well worth it! My biggest tip is to PURGE whenever possible! Happy New Year, Sarah - as always, thanks for the beautiful content and inspiration you give! -Michele

The Scottie dogs are so cool! I gave my 17 year old daughter a concrete cat in memory of our 17 year old family pet who passed away last month and then I found an inexpensive kitten figurine at Goodwill as well because we also lost a kitten this year. I suggested she paint them to give them the correct coloring. We'll put them out on the patio where our pets often napped amongst the potted plants.

My mother made some of the little crochet squares you showed. She had 2 larger ones and a few of the small ones like you got. She used them for use on furniture sort of like a dresser scarf. She a picnic basket just like you got. Hers was bought in the late ‘50’s or ‘60’s using yellow stamps. My sister and I would sit on Saturday mornings and paste the stamps into books. Going to the yellow stamp store was a huge deal. I still have the picnic basket and I use it when taking food to church.

Agreed. With all of it. My tricks to shopping intentionally.... 1. I keep THREE lists on my phone and i update it weekly. One is my WANTS and the second is NEEDS and the THIRD is THINK AHEAD.... Its the one i am preplanning for this or that, like ... Green vintage books, i want a green and blue theme room and i have tons of blue but not much green. 2. I stick to my list. I dont go to a section if theres nothing there on my list. 3. I wear uncomfortable shoes. Ones that pinch my toes and make me cranky and ready to leave. It keeps me focused on getting in and getting OUT. 4. I set my trips up in the middle of my errands once a week. Im pressed for time, i cant linger, i have to be intentional. 5. I have a budget. Its cash and i keep it tucked in my wallet and i can only use it for thrifting and i can also not spend more ON thrifting. This has actually helped me save a lot of money though. 🤣 Like ... Girl, youve got 20 dollars this week, theres nothing here worth busying that 20, lets roll and all of a sudden, ive got over 100 in my wallet and I'm thinking 🤔 i really amnpicky but its working for me, because my decor is really fine tuning. I can see it. 6. Taking my bery opinionated daughter is helpful. Shes not afraid to say " mom, its ugly" or " mom, you have 8 already and you dont use them." Or " you actually vould use one of these, it screams you!".

When GW first came out with their auction site, I bid furiously on many items and was extremely outbid. Some of the final prices were so high that I thought they couldn't actually be real. The shipping and "handling" charges are outrageous. I don't bother with them anymore. On another note, wishing you happy New Year! See you next year!

Goodwill does pull items for online shopping. The reason you’re questioning this practice is because e all should. In fact because of this practice and the massive increase in in Goodwill’s prices I no longer go into their businesses. I think they forgot their mission. Actually I predict we are soon to not have thrift stores open soon. I use garage sales on Facebook marketplace now. Thrift stores can sometimes ask a higher price than simply buying new. I paid less for a sweatshirt new and on sale than Goodwill’s price. So sad. We are all going to find our way through this but it is such a frustrating disappointment to me. I live in Post Falls, Idaho. I love your content. I look forward to each of your new videos.
