Ignorance is still present in the church today. It is so encouraging to hear you and Sheila openly talking about mental health, Randy. It brings me to tears, but not of sadness. Your words help restore hope for the church today. I won't go into detail about my lengthy struggle. What I will say is " He gave me beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness." God put the people in my life at the right time to bring the healing I needed. Pray for the church. Pray that God will remove the ignorance and give them knowledge.

I love you so much Sheila...what a blessing you are to me. I've been going through a valley of horridness and I listen to your Bible studies falling asleep and waking up. You are amazing and so anointed..2 cor 1.. we can comfort others w the the comfort we have received from the God of comfort.

I have been waiting for decades for depression to be discussed from the pulpit. And somehow the pandemic has been used by God to get men (in particular) and women to speak out loud and with confidence about clinical depression and anxiety. This is no small thing: Sheila’s metaphor of the pearl is spot on. And I loved her quip about your spectacles! There are other pastors who are coming forward with their own experiences of depresssion/anxiety, Louie Giglio and Craig Groessel (spelling?) and their books are very helpful. Thank you and bless you, Randy.

Pastor Randy, Thank you for discussing mental illness! It is so important that people understand more about it and conversations like this really help! Our church has been so good to pray for our family and the mental illness issues that we've had. We are so thankful that we are members of a caring, loving and praying church!

There's a book, written a very long time ago (1978), called "The Courage of Carol: Pearls From Tears." It's about Robert Schuller's daughter, who was in a motorbike accident and lost part of a leg. Beautiful story, using the same illustration.

Sheila has always love her Pat Robertson, before his retirement and before the loss of his wife. She was always needed for him, as a buddy, after leaving "The 700 Club."

Everyone has their own journey. Learning about medication and your mind is part of the experience of managing mental ill health. However, I think God has put things and words and practical exercises in the Universe which can help people manage and even improve their mental well-being. Needed because medication doesn't always continually work the same way it does at the start. Getting your brain to produce seratonin is hard but my experience is that it can be done beyond medication because you can condition your brain in conjunction with medication's effects. It's bootstrapping.
