When I was 20 and flew solo I entered a lounge from the airline I flew with thinking it was free for all passengers. 😂 There was none attending the front desk and no signs regarding membership or fees. 🤷 I casually took advantage of the free snacks and drinks 🥯🥤🧁like a boss 😎

yeah I'm going to have to try these at some point...typically when I fly it's to places here on the west coast of North America, so no layover, and I will come maybe an hour early (I know the TSA says two hours but I've been there as late as 15 min before boarding ends and had no problem getting on plane...), so I feel like in most cases I wouldn't be there long enough to benefit. On the other hand, there's definitely something to be said for a guaranteed seat as opposed to potentially having to stand for an hour. :)

@coco marineblu 2 hours is plenty of time. I had 40 minutes in Hong Kong and still managed to enjoy First in Cathay. Send an order to the restaurant immediately upon arrival, have a cocktail at the bar for 10 minutes, and by then the food is ready. Eat for 20 minutes or so, then brush teeth and do all that in a nice clean bathroom. That’s all most people really want in a lounge anyway… just a comfortable place to get yourself in order before boarding

We have the American Airlines Admiral's Club access and it is worth it. Some lounges have areas for sleeping, showers (good for international and long domestic flights) sectioned off areas for working or business calls, etc. AA also has a special customer service area that can help you rebook missed or cancelled flights without having to wait in line downstairs - worth it. Cons: AA's food isn't as good as Centurion, but AA also has a Flagship Lounge which is a huge step up from the regular lounge. Given that we travel a lot for both business and pleasure, lounge access (with the ability to bring four guests in!) is so worth it.

I used to travel 32+ times per year across the US and lounges are the way to go. Aside form that, great update as to how things are now. Back in my day of travels (1990's) I eventually went AMEX platinum to get into whatever airline lounge I had a ticket for. Now I see things have changed (even the old Crown lounge is now Sky lounge). Again, nice update.

the amex platinum really is the "if you get everything else wrong, get this one thing right". Also the purple skymiles card, which is great on domestic flights because as long as you fly delta in any class, if you've got the purple card you can get into the sky club. Between those two I feel pretty much covered in the continental US.

I think the best thing about the lounges is the peace and quiet. I could never relax before boarding a flight now I have a place where I can start my vacation early or I can work on some emails early before a work trip. If there is a delay the value goes way up since the last time I had a delay without lounge access I spent $200 at the bar for food and drink. So I may never go back to normal airport life. Also a lot of these credit cards come with TSA pre check credits also they cover airline incidentals like check bags and flight changes. All in all great video. If you get these credit cards you will have to pay attention to your benefits to make it worth it.

This was a good video. I want to add a few things. First is that is is only from an USA perspective but maybe that was impilicity? Cause you forgot a forth way to access lounge and that is by getting status with an airline. Then you get access no matter what class your ticket is as long as you fly international. In most other countries you get access to the lounge if you have status no matter what class your ticket is in. As a Star alliance gold member I get access to all star alliance lounges all over the world (except national in the US). That "force" you to be more loyal. And if you have status some airline has a more exclusive lounge as Lufthansa, they have a senator lounge for everyone who is Star Alliance gold member or higher. A bit better selection, more space etc. LOT has that too but just in Warsaw (what I know about). It is a jungle.

this is so true, thanks for adding that point! If one flies primarily inside U S., Priority Pass isn't worth buying. Many claimed domestic "lounges" aren't lounges at all, but restaurant or Minute Suite credits. Denver International, for example, has no Priority Pass lounges and just one restaurant credit. Atlanta has only one actual lounge, "The Club." Only way PP is useful is if it's a credit card freebie.

Either because I don't have enough time between connections, others because they are always busy and most important, they offer cheap beer and food. If I am hungry/thirsty I would go to a bar/restaurant instead. I mostly used them for the toilettes and sometimes the showers.

@@MarkReese You might find this interesting, Like most people we had only travelled in economy then on one flight as we walked out through the business class section my wife made a few comments about how much space there was.So I said to her lets try it once and see if its worth it. I did some research and chose Etihad as our first Business class flight, I chose them due to having a flat bed and the price was good. Also at the time they gave us a limo to the airport and home again, (this is now a pay service) From check in having no queue to priority security it was completely different, we went in to the Etihad lounge at Heathrow and very quickly were being offered drinks. the whole experience changed how we plan our travels now. instead of taking 2 or 3 trips a year we take one big and a smaller one and combine what we would spend on 2 flights to pay for a business class flight. I do shop around for the best price and now we are retired we are a lot more flexible so i can just watch for a good price. Unfortunately at this time prices are not good so I may a have to bite the bullet and pay more for next winters trip.

If you want to get away from all the commotion and crowds, then this might be for you. However, not all lounges are equal. And many times these lounges are only located in certain terminals of airports for specific airlines. Budget airlines like Southwest, Spirit, Frontier, etc. do not cater to businessmen or first class type passengers. So many times you will find these lounges are no where to be found. So it does not do any good to spend $200-$1,000 per year for a perk you can never, or very rarely, can actually use.

But the lounges can get crowded with slow-moving leisure travelers and loud children, and I've had to ask families to move aside to give me room to place my laptop on the one and only laptop counter, to get some quick work done before my flight. Electical outlets and USB outlets are plentiful in lounges. The SkyClub in MSP is crowded with slow-moving leisure travelers and loud children, basic food and tiny restroom, and only worth it if showering before a connecting overseas flight.

Couple points, if you fly 120k+ miles a year these are a must. As a veteran I think the USO is missing out they could charge a similar fee and bolster their donations. As well active duty can meet other veterans.

The only time I think lounges are useful are if your flight gets delayed and you end up spending a lot of time in an airport by accident. I recently spent the night in an airport because of that. It was the pits. I think lounges should be made available, for free, to passengers who get stuck in airports for reasons like this.

I’ve never had a bad meal in an AmEx lounge. I would straight up go there over many restaurants I’ve been to

Emirates in Dubai and Boston is very nice. Great food, seating, atmosphere, drinks, etc. Emirates also has the best business class I’ve experienced. First class between Dubai & states looks awesome and it should be at over $10K per seat !

Hey John! Awesome that you experienced Emirates business class plus the lounge 😃✈️ Do you also have any credit cards that provide lounge access for other trips?

From my pretty extensive experience, nearly all of the centurion lounge breakfast options have eggs in their ingredients…as someone with an egg allergy, I’m basically limited to fruit and juice when I’m there.

Hey Marktec - bummer to hear that. Have you seen them offer yogurt, oatmeal, breads, etc. that would work?

The air Canada lounge was not buffet and they cooked everything gourmet and brought it to our table. They had panna cotta. And steak, and lobster. Honestly was one of the best. That was in Newark I think. Maybe Toronto… not quite sure
