Hi Shelby! In soap, we would just pour one colour on one side of the pitcher and another colour on the other side, and not mix it further, or only very slightly. The mixing happens in the mould. I don't know if it would be the same for clay, but maybe it is worth a try? I love the froggos :-)
@ellespoonies3 жыл бұрын
That’s how it works with paints as well! It’s definitely worth experimenting, though it’s possible clay might solidify too quickly to mix properly.

I love the tiny little bug frantically running away from the flower press. Little friend was like "im not a flower, don't squish meeee" 😂 These are such precious little frogs. I remember them - or something very similar - on my grandmother's windowsill. They're so nonplussed looking that I always thought of them like Mr. Toad from a wind in the willows.

Back in the seventies the little froggys would come on little lily pads with cute signs. So love the mug and the little frog pond 🐸

@ravioli20203 жыл бұрын
You should try and put a frog inside the mug. My grandparents had "froggie mug" when I was a kid that had a frog figure at the bottom of the mug that would slowly appear as you drank your milk. We still fight over who gets to use it for their coffee when we go visit! It's so cute and would be a nice mix up from the way the mushie mugs are

My grandma also collected little frogs! She had one designated for every member of the family so we were all represented in frog form up on her shelf. It seems a little weird to relate frogs to people but I loved our sassy little frog family growing up!

I really like the frogs. I think I would use the mug as a vase or a flower pot. In that case I think your usual illustration of lots of Australian flowers would look really great. Or a little pond scene in the background.

A pond scene would be so cute! Do they have cattails (those pond plants that look like corndogs) in Australia? Some of those would look precious!

When I was a little girl we had these same frogs. A whole set and I would play with them all the time. They were the Original Little Pet Shops from the 70s! I remember we even had some that sat in the bottom of our fish tank. I remember some of ours had tiny googly eyes glued on them to make them. A memory i had lost until now.

Your happy energy and enthusiasm are contagious! I mean, that's always the case with your videos, but this time your love for this mould just radiated through the screen. I love how the pond plate came out, but my favourite piece is actually the mug! It looks so awesomely retro on the one hand, but on the other hand the extruding frogs make it unique, quirky and whimsical. Loved everything about this video. It's funny, because my own style is quite the opposite of yours (my sculptures are dark, creepy, moody), yet your videos never fail to lift my mood. Thank you!

KZbin recently recommended this particular video and I decided to give it a watch... then binge watched the entire mould reveal series!! How many moulds are there in total? I have been so delighted watching you create such beautiful and whimsical pieces that I not only subscribed, but am now trying to best decide how to explore this craft myself (without first investing a full kit), especially as I also deal with a chronic illness. I would love to see more tips and tricks that you might be willing to share, or advice for anyone wanting to learn the craft! Thank you so much for opening yourself to us all and congratulations on your 3-year cancer free!!

I think that she answers some of your questions elsewhere. There are shops where such things are done. So good to try things out. Where could you fire your things as in can you buy a kiln, maybe a used one. You’ll need a dedicated space separate from your house as the dust and kiln fumes are a hazard. Mostly you will work with either high or low fire. So check that out for the pros and cons. You only need a few Colors, make sure they will work together. You’ll need some clay and some moulds. Maybe you can make your own moulds using potters plaster. Mugs are always useful. Check out pottery supply stores on line. With some paints you could draw up some of your ideas. You could even paint with acrylics on cheap white mugs. Ideas will come as you start. What would you like to paint? I’m a potter and sculptor and this is my passion, this is my world, so yes come on in, just get started, that’s the hardest part.

I have 2 flower presses, but I’ve found a pile of books is easier. We get booklets in the mail from time to time. Sometimes phone books. I put flowers and leaves in these books, and set books on top. Sometimes it works best to put leaves right up to the spine to keep them flat. Make sure there are several pages in between flowers. I pressed flowers from a bouquet maybe 2 weeks ago and they’re already good. In summer, I’ll probably have actual flower presses and books going all the time. Pressing is addictive. Have you tried eco-dyeing? Have fun!

Love, love, love the saucer/plate you made! All the touches you added really made it special. The original paint job would have satisfied most people. The “water” of resin bumped it up. Adding the frogs onto the piece using the resin really made them appear to be lounging in a pond. I am generally more of a minimalist and kept thinking, ok, that is enough. But the end result with the dimensions of the flowers was stunning. Love listening to your voice, watching you work and feeling your infectious joy. Thanks for sharing your little part of the world with the rest of us!

Just a hint that works well for me and makes it easier to take your project out of the mold. Sometimes they just won’t come out. When It’s time to remove your piece from the mold I use an exacto knife to go into that inside channel, that has to be trimmed off, and cut it near the piece first. Pull that out and then take your piece out. Really enjoy watching your and seeing what comes out of those molds!
