I honestly hate how everyone that watches this show seems to hate Sheldon to death. People with autism are so misunderstood its insane. He doesn’t mean to be the way he is. He cares about his friends. He just seems mean because he doesn’t understand social protocols and how to behave towards people. He thinks because the things he says are factual that it doesn’t matter if its mean or not because people with autism value correct information. He changed over time and he constantly is compromising. Y’all would probably say “behaving like a normal person isn’t compromise” but it is to him because he isn’t like regular people. He has to change everything that felt familiar to him and that he thought was right. Whether his behavior before was irrational or not isn’t the point. Its a whole lot to change your ways especially for neurodivergent people. Y’all have no idea what it is like to live with autism your intire life. Not only do you feel bad for behaving a certain way that was out of your control but you also feel bad about inconveniencing other people or unintentionally upsetting them with it. Sheldon rarely seemed to feel remorseful after upsetting someone but that is because many people with autism have issues with expressing or feeling emotions hence why they come off as “robotic”. I don’t have that issue but still.

I like that someone finally gets it. And it’s weird because that’s also the whole reason why they didn’t have him formally diagnosed in the show. Because if he were diagnosed, his friends would be the unreasonable ones (at times) for forcing him to do things he’s uncomfortable with and punishing him when he can’t. Granted, they put up with him a lot, but the premise of the show is that Sheldon is a weird asshole, as opposed to how he’s clearly an autistic man with no filter and a bit of an ego. He does say some hurtful things, that other people might also think but just not say out loud. Other things he genuinely doesn’t understand or can’t change. Other people are as strange to him as he is to them. Sheldon lives in a world where everyone else is a “Sheldon” and he’s the only normal one, and all he can do is make his own home and life a bit more normal.
