Alito wasn't the only one that misled Congress about whether he would try to overturn Roe V Wade. Amy and Brett did as well. I still recall the networks screaming about how 'they lied', and claiming they all said they would NOT overturn Roe V Wade. The thing is, they did NOT lie. Alito, Brett and Amy ALL gave pretty much the same answer. Sure, it sounded like they wouldn't try to overturn Roe, but that's not what they were saying at all. I watched the hearings for all 3 Justices. They all said it was established precedent, that it had been challenged, that it had been on the books for decades, blah, blah, blah. But what they did NOT say is that, presented with a case that challenged Roe, that they would NOT vote to overturn the Roe V Wade ruling. Not a single one of them would say they would NOT overturn it. Their answers were so identical, even separated by time as their hearings were, that one would think that someone gave them a scripted answer for when they were asked that very question during their confirmation hearings. An answer that was purposefully and carefully crafted to sound reasonable, to placate Congress, to GAS LIGHT them into thinking they were saying something they weren't. I was furious at the Democrats in the Senate during all three hearings, because in the moment, in real time, it was obvious that all 3 were dodging the question they were asked: Will YOU vote to overturn Roe V Wade. Not a single one ever actually answered the question, and they got away with it.
